Maybe the price was too low. I think it was £1k. £1200 this time and flew out the door.

neepheid
Was just doing some fettling on my BB1200 (action as supplied was a bit low/buzzy for my tastes and the intonation was out a tickle) when I noticed that on the end of the truss rod end is a traditional nut like a Gibson, so you have to use a box spanner to adjust, not an allen key. Is this right? I've got vague recollections of it being that way on a BB450 that I saved by using the washer trick on a maxed out truss rod, but it's hazy. Anyone care to take a look at their late 70s/early 80s BB and confirm?
Maude
My Japan 1100s has a hex nut. When I bought it there was already a very handy normal 1/4 drive 8mm (I think from memory) socket on there with a pair of holes drilled right through the sides at right angles to each other to allow you to use a small screwdriver, allen key, etc to turn the trussrod like a Stingray. It lives on there permanently. A simple, but very useful idea. To hell with it, vanity shot, ain't she perdy. 😁 8
neepheid
Thanks for confirming. That socket's a nifty idea. Thankfully for me, years of Gibson abuse has paid off and I have the exact tool for the job in my tool kit, and although it's probably some a$$-backward imperial size, it seems to engage positively with the truss rod nut in the BB1200, so happy days.
briansbrew
Got this with my Yamaha many years ago, 21/64 ths and a star screwdriver at the other end
Kiwi
What is the most desirable seventies or eighties BB bass and what are they selling for? I have access to Japanese imported BB1200s and 1100s plus later models.

All I can give you is a personal opinion, but it's the BB1200 if you want single pickup, passive fun, the BB2000 if you want PJ passive fun and the BB1200S if you want active fun. Gotta be neck through IMO.

Maude
I'm just settling down to a Christmas tradition of Chas & Daves Christmas Knees Up. BB1200 loveliness.

I would say the BB1600 was the most desireable - for me anyway - and is most rare

Good price for the bones of something Stick a pair of Entwistle JBXNs and a loom in there and you've got a great sounding and playing bass. I've got a pair in an Aria J and in series it sounds phenomenal. There's also a black 1100s on Facebook for £440 which seems like a bargain. Lozz196
I keep looking at that black 1100s. My first “proper” bass was a 1987 1100s so more than a bit of nostalgia leading me.
Maude
It's not got the original bridge but has had a Badass replacement, which is no bad thing. I saw it it on the Vintage BB group for £440, but he has two ads on Marketplace, one is £400 so reply to that one if you do message him. It's been for sale for a while so he may be open to a cheeky offer 😁.

Maude
I love the look of a clear bass but I just couldn't live with the routing and drill lines. Completely ruins the look. I know you could hide it all behind a pickguard but even the strap button holes bug me. The weight I could live, the routes? No way.
