So was it pleasing to gig with then? Looks like a lovely instrument.

Yes, cracking - light on the shoulder, clear and punchy tone that still sounds like a precision and I'm really liking the neck, guitarist thought it sounded good too, so colour me chuffed.

Here's my newly acquired '97 USA L2500 - love it!

It's the start of a slippery slope... welcome to the good ship G&L, Hutton ;)

Thanks for the welcome to the G&L ship Matt. I also suspect you may well be right about the slippery slope!

Apologies about being in it but this is Edith my three tone sunburst ASAT, 1999 or 2000, so three bolt neck. The only bass I own. Worn (if anyone knows a good setup merchant in the three counties area let me know), dirty but blinking fabulous. Don't own a camera so I've been waiting for a) someone else to take a shot of her and B) work out how to upload the attachment....

Here's my Tribute M-2000 which I got a few months back. Its really hard to capture the real colour in a photo, it really is "transparent" black.

Whilst I'm here, let me say a big thanks to Matt (Neepheid) who let me try his one before I ordered. Needless to say I was sold within about five seconds of trying his. Cheers Matt!

Lovely bass this, the neck is fantastic and much comfier for my hands than the L-2000 tributes I tried which were just a bit too chunky. The preamp is incredbily versatile and you can get the full range of boost on each knob without the sound distorting (my last bass would distortwell before you reached the maximum level).

My only real complaint is that the output is insanely hot which makes swapping between this and my passive Yamaha a real pain. Although to be honest this bass is so nice that the Yamaha has definitely been relegated to "backup". I think at somepoint I'll try monkeying with the pickup heights a bit to try and tame it slightly.

Alright folks , so here is the question

I have always been a Fender P bass player , i have 2 .. a Usa and Mex . I was contacted recently by a bloke who wants to swap his L2000 for my 2001 Mex P bass . I went down to the local guitar shop and played one and was very very impressed by it .
Here is the thing i have been holding out for a MM Stingray !! and now im not sure what way to move , will i be disappointed eventually if i go for the G&L (i am aware that i am on a G&l forum so answers may be a bit biased) .. or should i just hold out for the MM that i know has the sound i want ... I also want a maple FB , this has Rosewood , not sure how to upload a pic ..

Cheers , confused.com

A simple and basic Tribute L-2000... but it's mine.

You get a lot of bass for a very nice price.

Good affordable lefty basses are rare, but this is one of them.

And now with a full maple neck on it, the necks on sale at the G&L web store.

$30 for a neck? Wow - on sale is a bit of an understatement!

You must keep in mind that the fret ends are unfinished and there is only a sealer coat on it, you need to finish the neck yourself.
You also need to enlarge to holes for the tuner bushings and make the holes to mount the neck.
It's only a basic neck that needs some work before you can use it.

My G&L L5500, it's always been a great player, but the original EMGs just didn't suit me. The Seymour Duncan's are great, wired up VVT, with series/parallel switches on the volumes, and the tone has a single coil switch. I think I will go for a 2 band preamp at some stage, but really happy with it just now.

I think it's obvious, the Ray has the sound you want & the G&L has a board you don't want. But, have you played a Stingray? So many people buy them then sell them on straight away saying they're one trick ponys (they aren't by the way).

Although both of these basses have appeared on the forum previously, I thought that now they reside together, it was time for a couple of new pics.

The white one is an '87 that I've gigged with regularly for the last few years. The black one is an '83 that until a week ago lived with Discreet.

I've yet to play anything more powerful than either of these :)
