Low End Bee
If they're your cup of tea, the Stranglers - Black and White. The solos in Curfew and Walk on By, the intros to Toiler on the Sea/Enough Time/Death and Night and Blood, the lines on In the Shadows and Do You Wanna...and of course Nice n Sleazy! All fantastic, IMO the best album of theirs basswise.
Yep. I'll go along with that. But you forgot Tank.
Prunesquallor
Hawkwind's Space Ritual as a Lemmy 101: the bass is clearer and slower than it became with Motorhead, and it's right at the front of the mix. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhWArBhPWu0
White Cloud
Loads of very good suggestions here. Speaking of jimmy Johnson (whitecloud) i have 100s of bass related cd's mainly funk, acid jazz, jazz, soul, n soul, rare groove, solo bass.etc i would like to offer one i feel VERY overlooked as bass players album prob not even looked at at all, and its one of my fave bass albums, i have it up there in the top 10 please check out jimmy johnson's playing one of wayne johnson,s album. The Wayne Johnson Trio. Grasshopper.( as well as others) here is a bit i found....Enjoy..
Tasty!
I had to stop myself there; once I get talking about my favourite JJ basslines it takes a lot to shut me up You are quite right of course though; though not as immediately noticeable as a lot of his other lines on the album Tank still remains a great track that would be far poorer without Burnel's aggressive approach. (Loved Mick with Japan, but this IMHO is total crap)
It's very different, but there are a lot of great songs on it, and some great bass parts too. It shows that Karn was a talented musician and writer, rather than just being an interesting bassist in a fairly naff pop band.
PaulWarning
for when you're in danger of disappearing up your own arse by being to busy, or you've just started playing bass Dee Dee Ramone, 1st Ramones LP, the bass and guitar are left and right in the mix, and Alan Lancaster any Quo album up to but not including Rocking All Over the World

yondergo
Deloused in the Comatorium by the Mars Volta - Flea on bass, doing it right. Bit wacky and proggy for some, but you can't keep a good rhythm section down. Early-ish Elvis Costello and the attractions - Bruce Thomas, damn good. New wavy but still melodic with reggae and rock edges.

winterfire666
has anyone said Mr Bungle yet? if not why not? Mr Bungle - Mr Bungle, (the albums after this one get very odd indeed) Awesome bass parts and highly unusual arrangements too, lots of Fun Tyr - Ragnarok , very interesting Viking/folk metal band from the Faroe islands, very melodic, and wonderfull bass playing, hes definitely thinking outside the box, which is nice to see in metal (and he sings backup too live the clever sod) Edited August 3, 2013 by winterfire666
