Forgive me if this has already been done, but what are everyones favourite bass riffs and lines from songs?

I'll kick start by saying:

Sabotage - Cancer Bats (Cover of Beastie Boys)
Sugar - System Of A Down
Orion - Metallica
Panic Attack - Dream Theatre
Holiday In Cambodia - Dead Kennedys

TOMH:

Tom Sawyer - Rush

Gloria ( I think part 3, but I'll check) - Antonio Vivaldi

Hysteria - Muse (can't resist this one)

Army of me - Bjork ( I now it's sequenced, but it's still a killer line).

IIBS - Charles Mingus - that motif just kicks ass.

loads of other stuff, impossible to fit into 5 slots.
First two that come to mind:

Waiting Room and Margin Walker by Fugazi
Good choice. I'd have to throw repeater in there for good measure, sober by tool(simple but effective) & off the top of me head.......errr....many rage RATM basslines :)

Jim is a geniusly unique bassist.

These are the two I'm loving at the moment:

Both take a while to get going bass wise, but they're brilliantly creative lines, that manage to stand out with 3 guitars in the mix.

I love watching Norman Watt-Roy, a real inspiration.

My fave bassline at the moment is 'Gangsters' by The Specials

If I had to pick five:
Senses Working Overtime - XTC
Oliver's Army - Elvis Costello (probably would have gone for Pump it Up, but that's already been posted!)
Too Much Too Young - The Specials
Hangin' Around - The Stranglers
Down in the Tube Station - The Jam

Not the most complicated basslines, but they all seem to suit the song perfectly

Ohh come on - that's not fair...

This is probably one of the most difficult questions you'll ever ask any musician - what I put down today may not even be on the list tomorrow!! - also you've left it so open ended it's practically impossible - had it been more genre specific, e.g favourite groove/reggae/rock - it would (might??) have been a bit easier..."favourite" on what grounds? - feel?, "wish i'd written that"? - it's far too difficult :) :)

Got to agree with Simon1964 with Down in the Tube Station... absolutely classic line - tempo, construction, feel..

How about:

"Money" by Pink Floyd??
"Land of Confusion" by Genesis??
"Wood Beez" by Scritti Politti??
"I need your lovin'" by (the late) Teena Marie (been listening to a lot of her stuff since she died)
"Visions of China" by Japan (again since Mick Karn's untimely departure)
"I want you back" by The Jackson 5
"Burning down the House" (live) - Talking Heads
"I refuse" by Hue & Cry
"Smooth Operator" by Sade
"Sunshine of your love" by Cream
all of "Cheap Thrills" by Big brother and the Holding company..

Was this supposed to be Top 5? - I've already done too many and I've not really thought about it...
Damn you.. :D
Son of a Preacher Man - Tommy Cogbill/Dusty Springfield
Cracking bassline - I played it for a charity gig I was involved in a couple of years ago. Brilliant line, which is a lot harder to play (well!) than you first think.
