  1. While my other half watched Love Island, I rocked out to some Audioslave for an hour.

I think we all know who had a better evening! 😂

In a previous rock covers band we did 'Cochise' and it was a highlight of the set. Spine-chilling line to play, IF the rest of the band are up to it which in this case they were. I miss that band, but not the bum-shattering volume we played at. ;)

What a great description! I've played loud, but never to the point of shattering my bum. Not that I was aware of, anyway. I was also in a band some years ago that had Cochise in their set. Girl singer, and she could do it, too.

  2. For example something like this would be absolutely brilliant to start with! Plus a Rumble/other small amp and you would good to go!
  3. Welcome! Only thing I would say is about the kits is it MIGHT not be the best value, the amp will be fine but for the same money you could get a better Squier than the Affinity(I'm guessing) that's included. Going second hand might allow you to get a better bass, but there is just so much choice! Go and try a few if you can, the world is your oyster. You will never be short of good advice around these parts.
  4. Newtone. They do custom lengths and windings. I believe Alan at ACG uses them and they do short scale basses so must be good!
  5. If my Yamaha SBV500 sells I'll be very interested!
  6. Just did a search for some better photos of one the finishes and it seems Andertons also have these at £234 https://www.andertons.co.uk/bass-dept/bass-guitars/modern-bass-guitars/sire-marcus-miller-v3-4-string-in-mahogony They also have some of the M2 at £234.... https://www.andertons.co.uk/bass-dept/bass-guitars/modern-bass-guitars?#facet:307445734561667667583105114101&productBeginIndex:0&facetLimit:&orderBy:3&pageView:grid&minPrice:&maxPrice:&pageSize:&
  7. This is my second one of these, I got my first from that very BC member They are great, nice and light and just a fun bass, but I don't need it and it deserves to be played.
  8. Eyes peeled folks. https://www.facebook.com/scott.devine.399/posts/10156680333487044
  9. Agree, and the strings look a bit better than the Taylor Mini ones. I've also got a Uke bass (Harley Benton) and the strings are fun for a noodle but couldn't see myself playing for hours on end. Having a wee bass that I can pick up at anytime with no amp is appealing.
  10. HEY YOU! YES YOU! Do you have a bass? Great start, but I bet your bass isn't as cool as this bass! (IT IS CALLED A SAMURAI BASS AND HAS BLUE STRINGS TOO). Dr. Who plays the guitar version, doesn't get much cooler than that. For sale today for you lucky buyers is a Yamaha SBV500, you won't see many of these going for sale outside Japan these days. It's basically a jazz bass but 9000% cooler. Slim neck and Volume Volume Tone controls. This one has also been nicely routed for a battery compartment for active electronics. I still have the EMG-BQC active preamp that was in it if the buyer wants it (adds another 500 cool points). Its been gigged (not by me), so there are a few scuffs and scrapes but that doesn't affect the playability at all. Happy to show more detail if photos I've added aren't enough I have a box so it will be well packed so can post at buyers expense/risk. Price now includes delivery! Feel free to ask any questions!
  11. "Get em while you can, they’ll be rare someday." Not convinced by that statement....
  12. So Ibanez are dipping their toes in the mini acoustic bass water. I like the look of it and the video is ok (until the slapping, who does that on acoustic?) Retail at $499 What do we think? Useful or have Kala already got this market sewn up? More info here: http://www.notreble.com/buzz/2018/06/05/ibanez-introduces-compact-acoustic-electric-basses/
  13. 😍😍😍😍 Sadly I can't afford either of these, but that is STUNNING!
  14. In case you were wondering......Joe Dart is definitely still the funkiest bass player on the planet right now.

Hmmmm...No doubting that Joe is very good but have you heard Richard Searle???

  15. Think my Half Wound experiment is over, making my G&L sound a bit lifeless. Where to next.....Chromes? La Bella Golds? Or Newtone :scratch_one-s_head:

Hmmm I might try a set of flats and see what I feel, especially something like the Golds/Chromes that are supposed to be quite bright.

But it will probably end up with rounds on it again

I don't mind rounds, but higher strings/notes always sound a little feeble to me now compared to flats.
But it really depends what bass and music you're playing I guess :)

Maybe try Rotosound 77s - I'm really enjoying them after a long time on rounds only.

  16. Hah didn't see that @yorks5stringer, didn't realise they posted the video early on their website. Not particularly in depth rundown but it does highlight how few pedals you need to get some cool sounds
  17. I have the expression pedal B1Xon and the main use of the pedal is for volume Although I have been known to link it to the gain function of the SansAmp-a-like to add grit, quite a useful feature. The controls are a bit pesky for editing sometimes but I can't really complain, only paid £35 for mine! Massive bonus is the ability to power off USB, no more searching for a 9V adapter!
  18. For fans of Snarky Puppy, Michael League goes through his rig, pretty cool
  19. Just saw this and thought it might appeal to those with imitations of a certain brand of bass. http://www.notreble.com/buzz/2018/03/05/nordstrand-audio-unveils-the-nordenbocker-pickup/ A mere £80 which seems reasonable https://nordstrandaudio.com/collections/rickenbacker/products/nordenbocker-rickenbacker-replacement
  20. Don't have that exact model handy but I had some issues with my Suitcase so I got in touch with the UK distributor, Synergy. They could not have been more helpful, even covered the cost of shipping my amp back to me! (In Scotland too) Give them a shout http://www.synergydistribution.co.uk/Contact_Us.html
  21. For those who appreciate Vulfpeck and Joe Dart in general, he's part of this tour if you missed Vulfpeck last year! https://www.livenation.co.uk/show/1085553/theo-katzman-and-four-fine-gentlemen/glasgow/2018-04-10/en
  22. I have a Phil Jones Suitcase (which I would class as a Hi-Fi rig) and recently acquired a BB425 but yet to try them out together. Will let you know how it goes!
  23. So I was browsing Instagram and thus came up.... I'm VERY intrigued by these. Cort make great basses and a fan fret 5 should go down a storm at the right price point. What do we think?
