1. Video on Facebook just been put up announcing the configurator goes live on Monday. Credit cards at the ready....
2. What a beauty! Your search led to me to have a nosey at the Yamaha's available on the Japanese market.....Dangerous. Found a BBVIIx which has a double split P.....must resist, must resist, must resist!
3. Thanks for all the advice guys. My reading isn't awful, a bit rusty so that is something I need to practice. I thought it might be a bit cliquey so will try and look to make some contacts and see what happens.
Great resource here for scores: https://www.reddit.c...lTheatreScores/ There are lots of scores there for some of the most common musicals (and a lot of less common ones). It has given me a good idea of the standard of sight reading required (and mine failed once it got to 6 flats!!), plus it is a much more fun experience practising using these especially as I'm not in a band anymore. It does seem that a lot of the scores would require a bass with a low B though, so that might be a consideration for the OP.
Thanks for that! I'll have a look and try and dredge up all my musical knowledge from the back of my brain
4. Scratch It do one with whatever design you want http://www.originalscratchplates.com/product/epiphone-thunderbird/
5. I see what you mean but I wouldn't rely on these being images of actual basses, as others have pointed out, the grain is exactly the same on all translucent finishes so seems to be a photoshop effort. Like you said not what we expect from Yamaha and probably not what you're going to get.
6. My favourite bit is the "I <3 Chuck Norris" graffiti carved into the back
7. If Thomann get it in stock I may order it and take advantage of the 30 day guarantee. As you pointed out, it was discontinued for a reason so to make another under the same name suggests somethings changed.
8. Ah good man, I am really interested for one. I keep swaying between a B3 which I know are great, but as with all multiFX have 100s of features you wouldn't use. While these Flyrigs appeal to the more practical side of playing and just have the effects you would use. So yes, interested to hear your opinion when you get yours!
9. I played bass for a couple of musicals in Secondary School and really enjoyed the experience of learning the parts and ques. I was just wondering from people who are currently involved in local musicals etc. How did you get involved? Obviously quite a broad question but any advice would be most helpful. Thanks!
10. That Rosewood #001 I am green with envy at the rest of your bass collection if you can afford to part with these
11. Very nice collection there MGB, if you ever want to sell the Organbe BB415, let me know Found this on eBay, a stripped down RBX375(?) Liked the feel of the RBXs but didn't really like the colours, this on the other hand.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-string-yamaha-bass/172631849137?_trksid=p2047675.c100012.m1985&_trkparms=aid%3D777003%26algo%3DDISCL.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D40656%26meid%3D6d8c29559ce04b7e82fb5de304a6b0b6%26pid%3D100012%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D272634591257
12. And another with better quality audio
13. And here with a Passive P bass http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhTNXyyyJvI
14. A guy in the US got a demo one from a dealer. Check his thoughts here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blZt4-Q_Gzs
15. So the original micro Tender Octave got discontinued (wonder why?) But they've got a new Pro version coming out which for budget effects people can only be good news http://www.notreble....aver-pro-pedal/ Seems to have very similar controls to the Micro POG. This is a comparison of the original Tender Octave pedal against a Nano Pog
16. Nope, completely separate brand called Sire. Widely regarded as some of the best basses under £1000.
17. The Fan Fret SC 5er is down to £166.97 currently for those interested https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_fanfret_5b_black_burl_deko.htm
18. Ahem....... https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_fanfret_5b_black_burl_deko.htm I check the Deco section daily in case anything fun comes up.... £166 for a Fan Fret Single Cut 5er? Anyone?
19. I love the way dual split P pickups look on a bass, but what are the tonal advantages/differences of having a split P at the bridge? Not exactly the most common set up so haven't ever played one and interested to see what people think of it
20. Ibanez continuing the theme of interesting* basses this year * Horrible
21. I don't think you'll find better prices on those basses anywhere right now, especially the Sterlings. Happy NBD for some in the future I reckon.
22. Hi Mark, You can argue about which is better until you are blue in the face really. In short: Yamaha = Great value for money, great build quality with a more 'modern' sound. Squier = Generally good value for money, anything above their Affinity series is well respected and even then, the Affinity series is not a bad place to start, Squier will give you a more classic sound from the start. As with any new gear, if you can try before you buy it always helps Best of luck in choosing your new bass
23. Don't have one so can't say for definite, but I'd be surprised if these had filler etc. Might not necessarily be the prettiest grain or 1 piece of wood but these basses are mass produced so should be in a decent state underneath. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable comes along and can be more help
24.
I think there is WAY more to it than just his bass playing, which is obviously part of his sound, but shouldn't be the complete focus. He is writing very unique music and singing at the same time, and I had heard of him and seen his record covers WAY before I knew he was a great bass player. Cool guy, cool groove, very unique and fresh.
This is why I like him, a guy creating something new with a 6 string semi-hollow Ibanez. I get that it's not to everyone's taste but that the fun of music. It's similar to what older musicians did in the 70's experimenting with synths and new sounds for example I'm sure there are people here who can't stand Prog Rock? There will always be space for the Old School and classics, but it's good to have some new ideas to change it up
