  1. I don't have an ACG but I've played a couple and yes, EQ is potentially unfamiliar but people manage to get some amazing sounds from them so it must work somehow I second @BassBunny idea of going back to Alan first and trying to explain what you are looking for rather than taking out some expensive pickups/preamp to be replaced by other expensive pickups/preamps.
  2. Depends where you are? I've seen and tried some up in Glasgow but I think they are selling pretty well so come in the door and then straight out again!
  3. Anyone looking for a BB5000a? Has an odd tuning peg but seems a decent price for what will be a great bass!
  4. Further to this, do we know if the Nordstrands could be changed into the 1005ms?
  5. For those interested (me) the pink is now a reality on the Ibanez website. Very nice. Might have to give this another go...
  6. Question - Do Limelight allow for slightly more custom pickup arrangements? Or do they only deal in Fender styles? Also, do they do 5 strings? Ta!
  7. I got mine second hand on here. Always worth putting a wanted ad out since the strings aren't for everyone, someone might have some in a drawer. £40 at Bass Direct is probably the best price you'll get for a new set, would definitely go for the lighter guage next time I buy a set!
  8. I guess it's a question of how much do you want to spend? Obviously you would want him to stick with it but young people are fickle 😅 For a smaller hands starting point - Ibanez Mezzo. Some nice colours and 32" scale so not short scale but not full size which is a touch big at the beginning.
  9. So a month on, still really enjoying it - bonus is it looks good enough that it gets permission to stay in the living room! The tone is good - but I want more from it. Now the original plan was a the rail humbucker in a Ray position, still think that could be fun - but do I save the routing and put the humbucker where the current pickup is. I was planning on getting a new pickguard anyway...
  10. Haven't compared the DRs but they will be very different. Closer to flats but due to the nylon coating they do feel different. You get a brighter tone, lower tension and zero finger noise.
  11. Had the Coppers on my Yamaha BB425 and now on my Sandberg, love the tone and the feel. Reckon I would go full bright white next time I buy them. Only downside is they are fairly thick.
  12. That's stunning! 😍
  13. I'd probably sell the Electra if I'm honest so roughly £400. Don't get me wrong the Electra is great but I don't think I'm a P Bass guy and the Bronco will do that if I need it.
  14. So here I am with a Sandberg Electra VM4 (P bass) and a Squier Bronco (Smol P Bass) both picked up very recently and I am now bored. I like the tone but when you are home bassist who just noodles at home a one pickup bass just doesn't quite cut it. So where to next? I recently sold a BB425 and I do miss the low B and just the feel of the wider neck, I've only briefly had a 6 string and it didn't get much attention as it had a pickup issue which i just couldn't solve so is now the time to try again? Having had a quick look, Ibanez seem to be the easiest gateway to the 6 string world unless happy to hear of others experiences with the first foray into 6 stringers. Also, I think a general thread of how people use their 6 strings and what they like/don't like about them could be useful as I can't be the only bassist interested in making the change and a one-stop-shop would be useful for a reference point
  15. You've definitely jinxed it now 😅
  16. Any love for the Bantam? Not that I'm buying one, just think they look nice and don't seem to get much attention rounds these parts
  17. I was going to suggest just these - I have the Nylon Coppers on a Sandberg Electra and before that they were on a Yamaha BB425. Plenty of treble gets through and zero finger noise and definitely lower tension. Only thing is the guages tend to be a bit heavier due the the nylon coating. I believe the whites are brightest of the range available with gold and copper being warmer.
  18. That was a top quality day out! Getting to see Santana and Clapton with my Dad was pretty special 😁
  19. Yeah, 210 is very thick - but I appreciate the tech that makes it possible. If I got one I would definitely investigate an octave circuit built in as I can definitely see that being useful for noodling, especially since it could have a built in headphone amp.
  20. Well yes, but these can be had cheaper than $1400. But even if these $200 you could get a normal bass for cheaper. I just find the technology and design going into these wee basses interesting and fun! 😁
  21. And here you go. It works. I'm not sure how, but that sounds like a bass to me. Headphones recommended. Edit: the bass is also in drop D.
  22. I guess this good thing about not being 100% sure about limited edition finishes is that you should be able to pass it on to someone else fairly easily @sirmuppet
  23. I completely appreciate and understand your opinion, but this bass wasn't made to impress you or anyone else really, apart from John Myung 😅
