I've had my '73 for a few months now and I must start 'using' it really. It never leaves the house which is a bit sad really. Now I've looked at other Precisions from the same era and what I've noticed is the positioning of the neck plate. On some there is, or what looks like up to 5mm from the 'F' plate to the edge of the body where on my one there is hardly any wood at all. Now I've looked at American ebay listings of old Precisions with the bass dismantled and theres no question that the body's not original. Incedently there's another black P-bass of the same year that is the same. Did they make bodies back then in different sizes? There's a lot of difference between this one and my '78, the '78 is bigger and a lot heavier.
Here's some pics. It would be nice to know what the Fender experts make of this.
I wouldn't mind having a go on one of them before I would make any judgment. They all sounded pretty impresive but what got me was the fact that the Precisions didnt sound quite like my ones. Hearing them on youtube aint like hearing them in the flesh I suppose. Still good tho!
I'm a bit 'old school' and I prefer a warmer tone and not too fizzy. Put it this way, my '73 Precision hasn't been picked up for a while now. If I had the cash I would snap up that black one just because it looks so nice!
I would like to compare a rosewood and maple just too see if there is a great deal of difference tho.
After buying jake_tenfloors EBS case I might as well sell my case and tuner.
The case is a very good quality 4U Jobie in great condition. This was the home of my EBS TD650 so its not going to be any old tat!
Also I have the Korg DTR1000 which is now homeless.
Sorry about the rubbish pics, courtesy of mobile phone...
£100 anybody?
Our guitarist got a shiny new LP about a year ago and I know that he had some initial setup problems with it and it went back to the shop several times. Needless to say he uses his Strat more.
I'm so horrendously bad at slapping is funny. But I could watch a decent slapper all day!
To be honest I'm just too lazy to learn but you have to ask yourself do you have to? Probably not.
They do, but the didn't have any in stock when i got mine
Oh right, I never knew they did a 4U. Did they do a 1U for tuners?
Oh bloody hell no! Not more amp problems Steve?
If I had the cash I'd buy it back now for £450. Its a belting bass and I'm beginning to miss its slapping qualities.
Not that I have any slapping qualities tho!!
I hope you get a quick sale and get that amp sorted once and for all.
