It's fine thankfully. They did state that the bass will come with a professional set up. If it was was up by a professional I'd be interested to know as to what the profession was! I'm glad it came with a tool kit...

Just arrived as it happens. Completely out of the blue as I had no notification from the courier. To say I’m relieved is an understatement and no doubt the shop is too, they must have been sick of my calls.

Awesome! I was shown how to hold a bass the 'proper' way but if I could only play it half as good as he dose, I'd be a happy man.

I think I'll sleep better tonight knowing all this so thanks for all the advise. The more I think about the shops response the more it surprises me. They were not rude or dismissive but I just got the feeling that they didn't seem too concerned. I would have liked a call back when they said they would rather than me chasing them. At the end of the day it was a 1200 quid bass and not a pack of strings and I have every reason to be worried.

Thanks Matt and thanks @synthaside for the advise. I'm quite surprised at the retailer to be honest. Now if it had got lost in transit it would be different, these things happen but explaining to the chap on the phone that it has been signed for by me didn't seem to concern him too much. Now I'd say its been nicked by a dodgy driver (I've known a few in my time). Yes I know it's all too easy to jump to conclusions, but it's dosn't sound promising at the moment that I'll ever see this bass.

I bought myself a new bass from a well established music shop in Sheffield. The bass was to be delivered today and according to the tracking, it was and signed by my good self! Trouble is, it wasn't. I had arranged for the bass to be delivered to my place of work and according to the alleged delivery time I would have been on site and able so see the van come in and make the delivery. I phoned the shop to raise my concerns and they didn't seem too worried about it. Saying along the lines of that it's out of their hands as soon as it leaves their shop and I should contact the courier. The shop raised a 'ticket' with the courier for the shipment to be investigated and they have to now wait for the courier to get back to them. On the tracking there is no photo POD or a digital copy of a signature only that it was delivered to the reception and signed for by me. I'm pretty worried about this and I could do with some advice as to where I stand.

£18k Is a crazy amount of money for a guitar but if I was lucky enough to be in position to buy that Jazz bass I would. Yes you can buy many much better basses for that kind of money but it's not the point. I saw an advert for a mk1 Ford Escort being sold for £25k, some for much more. My £2k Vauxhall Astra is a much better car in every way but it's not a 50yo very cool and desirable car to certain people.

I don't think it's silly at all. I'd be all over that if I had the funds. It has to be one of the bast examples I've seen and BB's prices are always sensible. The '73 stripped Jazz is a beauty and well priced too and being it's my YoB I'm hoping it sells soon as I could get into trouble!

The newer ones, like my old one are the Electra 2 VS4 without the push/pull

Consider it as 'road worn' 😉 I've never used the tone print or had any inclination to figure it out. I've never done effects in almost 40 years of bassin' so it's no issue to me. It's just a handy little amp with a built in tuner that is small enough to keep in your gig bag as a back up should the worse happen to your number 1 amp.

If I drank at gigs I'd be all over the place, much too old for that now! However, the singer really reacts well with the audience after he's had a few. He engages with them more than any other frontman I've been in a band with and gets them on our side so to speak.

It's a TM4. What I was finding was that when playing certain areas of the fingerboard above the 7th fret the sound dies, just no guts to it. The bass is set up well with no dead spots, choking or buzzing. But I'm finding it thin sounding. Amp was set with the low mids boosted and the VLE/VPF set at around 10 o'clock and 1 o'clock and if I'd have turned up it would have been overpowering everything else. It's a pretty gutsy little combo to be fair but it seems that the bass is lacking somehow.

Last nights gig was delayed due to a game of football so we didn't start until 9:45. We sat in an empty room until the match finished where about a dozen or so came in from the bar area. The few that were there enjoyed it, pretty drunk by then I'd guess, singer dose not drive to gigs so he was well oiled too. But he dose a great job engaging with them and will take himself and his radio mic over to them and get them involved. He was loving it, I hated every moment. I struggled with the drummer who was all over the place and a guitarist who I'm sure was at another gig. I made plenty of mistakes too it must be said but it's hard not to under the circumstances. I used a 1x12 Markbass combo on its own and it preformed brilliantly with plenty of power but I was unhappy with my Sandberg as I just couldn't get the right sound out of it, great in some areas and completely lost in others so need to do some work with that. So a successful gig according to the singer and the venue who have rebooked us but from my point of view, effin' awful! But both myself and the guitarist agree that a lot of work needs doing and this shambles has to improve.
