1. Man there is nothing ridiculous about that rig. Very sweet!
2. SWR head is now sold pending the usual. The Metro Is on hold until Tuesday.
3. Sorry about the dreadful quality of the pic. This is the one I played on. It was owned by John Entwistle. I wish I never had to put it down. It was stunning.
4. That case IS gorgeous! The bass ain't too bad either!
5.
Doesn't the bridge cover hold the bit of foam to mute the strings in place for that extra dead sound? Read any interview with a bass player in the 70s and they all said the first thing they did when getting a new Fender bass was to remove the covers and chuck them away...
There is a rubber mute in the bridge cover and I'm sure there was a purpose for the covers on Jazz's and Precisions.
6. Cannot play mine with the pup cover on, no way.
7. I owned one for a few months last year and I have to agree that they are really well made and look great but I just couldn't get on with the neck.
8.
It's a Fender? Runs away before anyone can catch me
You had better run fast Peter!
9. Hi Matt. Might need some pics doing in the near future!
10. You get some good Fenders and bad ones and its pretty much the same with Stingrays I guess. I thought that Beedster's pre EB was great and had quite different attributes to other Stingrays I've owned (6 I think). My personal favorite was a '86 (Ernie Ball).
11.
i really thought this would have been gone by now
Me too and if it wasn't for the fact that I'm currently raiding the bins for my dinner and dodging the rent collector it would have been!
12. I had one of these, exactly the same which I sold on ebay a couple of years ago. And then regretted it! I have a feeling that this is the one! Oh if I wasn't skint!
13. I would certainly like to try the 2x12 combo!
14. Im putting my Metro up for sale to raise some funds for a bass a little different. (Tho I don't know what yet)! This was the original thread: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=31684 I've had the speakers reconed by Wembley Speakers as the original ones were showing lots of ware. Also the amps been to an amp tech who had to replace some caps or something. I'm asking for the same £450 as I paid and collection only from Telford as its bloody heavy! Also for sale but no pics yet is my old SWR sm400s. Its a bit used with scratches here and there but works fine. It currently lives in a friends recording studio. It comes in a Warwick rackmount bag thing which is crap but it offers some protection. £180 collected? I have absolutely nothing to ship this amp in so collection please. Any questions please drop me a PM
15.
Cheers mate, sure you don't want to get rid of your '73
I thought you preferred the sunburst ones? Mines a tatty black one. I hope you have better luck on ebay with it mate.
16.
up we go, no-one interested in this at all?? Jake
Believe me yes! But Im pretty well all cabbed out at the mo.
17. 'Tis a great bass and if cash wasn't non existent around here I would have it back as I do miss her. But like Chris, I cannot get away from the Precision thing. Christmas eve bump for a gorgeous bass!
18.
Cant wait to get out of work and mess around properly tonight!
Have fun! As for the cabs and if you can, try out the 2x12. It seems to cover everything nicely.
19.
Nice bass! That is unusual, but your plate has the plastic 'cushion' under it which maybe makes the gap look smaller than it is...
Very true! As a matter of interest, how thick is the body of your '73?
20. I've had my '73 for a few months now and I must start 'using' it really. It never leaves the house which is a bit sad really. Now I've looked at other Precisions from the same era and what I've noticed is the positioning of the neck plate. On some there is, or what looks like up to 5mm from the 'F' plate to the edge of the body where on my one there is hardly any wood at all. Now I've looked at American ebay listings of old Precisions with the bass dismantled and theres no question that the body's not original. Incedently there's another black P-bass of the same year that is the same. Did they make bodies back then in different sizes? There's a lot of difference between this one and my '78, the '78 is bigger and a lot heavier. Here's some pics. It would be nice to know what the Fender experts make of this.
21. I wouldn't mind having a go on one of them before I would make any judgment. They all sounded pretty impresive but what got me was the fact that the Precisions didnt sound quite like my ones. Hearing them on youtube aint like hearing them in the flesh I suppose. Still good tho!
