1. My bass was in my hands from about three minutes in and stayed there until the end of the programme. Sooo many great grooves, what a great way to spend a Sunday evening
2. Dave was kind enough to bring down some PA gear for me en route to a gig. The meet was timed tighter than a gnat's wotsit, so everyone kept on schedule for the day. Slick and trouble free. Also a very good price for the gear too Thanks Dave, always a pleasure Tom
3. Bought a walkabout combo from Si. He kept me informed of events with the courier at every stage and followed up to make sure all was ok. It's the hallmarks of someone that cares about how they deal with others that really show how dependable someone really is. Si came through in spades. Sets the standard for us all Thanks Si, I'm enjoying this combo to bits ! Tom
4.
That is exactly what I have done recently. We found that we were getting chronic feedback on the PA, which was traced back to my 500W, 2x12 Bass Rig. It was my vocal mic that was picking up everything. I got hold of a tilt-back Combo, (Line 6 jobbie), and now DI at every gig with the combo at the side of me facing inwards. The difference is astounding. The whole sound of the band is now clearer and more defined and it is powerful enough for me and the drummer to hear. I've got Mike Walsh to make an "airhead" fitting for the top of my Zoot Cabs, so I can now use 1 cab tilted back with my MarkBass head, or add the 2nd cab if needed.
Out of interest, what mic do you use ?
5.
Yep, I've dreamt I have to sight read classical piano!! ARGGGHHHHH!
I've had this one too. It's enough to make you fill your pampers
6.
The reason is because people don't have a collective band sound..they have their sounds and then hit the brick wall of sound. Far better to mix everyone and find where you can settle rather than push.... You should be able to hear the dynamic range of a bass as much as any other instrument...IMO. You don't want to be burying anything...but you need the others to let you have that space.. and often they don't... either thru ignorance or arrogance.
This (ideally)
7. This is a very worthwhile topic for discussion, as I'm sure most of us will bump into the issues raised here at one point or another Thanks BC
8. That does look like an early Rumour
9. Came to me this morning how I've witnessed famous singers live over the years (Freddie Mercury, Bowie are two) that avoid the high notes they recorded in the studio
10. Played to just the barstaff once. They booked us for Guy Fawkes night and the displays were miles away
11. To the OP if I may; - What alternative outlet have you found for the spirit in you that was expressed through music ? just curious really Cheers
12. This particularly sublime performance of Bach's Air in G is on the movie Se7en. The pace is 'just' right http://youtu.be/r6bzgNHeYAQ
13. Martin sold my a compressor, which arrived in a solidly packaged box. Top man. Definately recommended
14. http://youtu.be/zXP_pr7np-o Another Apostrophe, featuring Jack Bruce !
15. Up and gone in one evening. What a shocker
16.
I love the sound of a 3 piece instruments, everything is generally clear and you all get your own space. If you are playing Rock and Roll as opposed to 'rock', listen to Eddie cochran and buddy holly, very sparse. Also have a look at the stray cats, a modern take on rock and roll. Look at the drummers kit, a snare and and a high hat. No toms, try reversing what you are trying to do, get it simple. .
Beat me to it with this ^. If it really is rock and roll, then the interplay between the instruments often carries the song. Oh, have a look at Carl Perkins
17.
Do they let you keep the mic if it turns out to be an illegal counterfeit?
Both my mics were authentic, so didn't encounter this situation. It wasn't discussed.
18. I've taken a few mics to Shure HQ at Waltham Abbey, Essex (not very far away) for authentication. They've been first class and more helpful than many. Highly recommend their service.
19. Hi ezbass I have three Telecasters, you are not alone my friend
20. For those of us that suffer with GAS, problems with other band members or promoters, there's now Bassist's Anonymous. Does your family suffer from your musical habit ? causing rows at home ? drinking excessively at gigs ? Share your story here and gain strength from the sharing Hi there everyone My name is Essexbasscat. I've had a problem with collecting music gear for some time, but never had the chance (or the nerve) to admit to it before. I'm trying to avoid buying more amps, speakers, basses and PA gear, but sometimes slip and before I know it, I've Pm'd again. It's a complusion I've noticed for a few years now and doesn't appear to be entirely related to BC alone. I'm trying to resist temptation, but it's hard.... Trying to cut down on the basses and get my home back Thank you for listening
21. Calling Netballman, calling Netballman ....
22. Not to mention Ska + Reggae of course... Then there's the big band stuff Oh, there's also the sax in the Dave Brubeck band And the backing sections for a whole range of 50's stuff and and
23. Ian sold me an amp stand at a very nice price. My experience echoes the above, the deal was ideal (ahem), without so much as a hint of any concern. Recommended ! Thanks Ian Tom
