1. Hi all I used the search engine to find a post I looked at last night, but the search engine didn't find it. I've now manually scrolled back through 26 pages and found the thread. Just to try it out, I entered the exact thread title into the search engine, using capitals where they appear in the thread title and any additional marks, commas etc. Guess what ? came back as no result, despite the thread being the very last thing I looked at. Anyone else experienced this ?
2. Nowt wrong with that. As said above, the good vocals sell it, poor vocals could sink it like an anchor
3. Begin by just blowing into the hole (as you would blow into a milk bottle to produce a note) with the aim of producing long notes of consistant volume and quality. Practice this until a consistent note can be produced when required. Once that is acheived, attach the other part of the instrument and practice until notes can be produced to the same consistancy. Understanding of the musical scale will help with pitch recognition and the art of producing the correct note when required. Knowing the scale and understanding music theory will help with visualising the note in the mind before aiming to produce it, always a bonus with wind instruments. Progress with wind instruments does go much quicker though if there's someone more experienced playing the same intrument. They'll provide real time examples of how it's done, answer questions (hopefully) and inspire progress. Hope that helps
4. A short while ago, I posted a request for control knobs for my P bass. Mick got in touch and sent me one all the way from Ireland. He even declined anything in payment for the knob or the postage. A credit to the community is our Mick Thanks once again Mick, you're welcome for a tea at mine anytime.
5. Dave was kind enough to spend a few hours showing me around the digital desk I'd just bought from him (top man, thank you for the months of book reading you saved me there Dave). From time to time on BC, topics come up around the subject of PA and mixing. I'll be watching when Dave contributes something to those discussions, he really does know what he's talking about. After spending time with Dave, I have no qualms about recommending him to anyone on BC. Deal with confidence here. Thanks for a great afternoon Dave Tom
6. Been a matter of common sense for years that you keep naked batteries away from other metallic objects, as they can become dangerously hot, Lithium batteries or otherwise, including your everyday duracell etc. Nothing new about that
7. What sound for what kind of music ? Motown aka Jameson ? 80's ? Disco ? Classic rock ? Could be different answers for all of them
8. That must have been the experience of a lifetime to play that in front of LZ
9. Start playing jazz. Sound will be bang on !
10.
And correct the bad posture...
I'd wager 99% of folk around here don't know how to do this without causing more problems in the process. Yes, definately visit the GP. Also, if you'd like to take things further, you could enquire about BAPAM, they treat performing artists up and down the country and have more in depth knowledge about issues associated with performing artists and their problems than the average GP. Good luck with your health and career
11. That's luvverly !
12. YOu could try Gorgomyte
13.
One trick I read and have successfully applied is reducing the number sound sources that are being reflected or reduce the chance of them being reflected. Sounds crazy but by putting both PA speakers together on one side of the stage works wonders. The other would be use a bigger PA and not use individual amps on the back line and use monitors. As I guess you are stuck with what is listed the main thing is keep the volume under control, don't push the hall beyond that point of intelligibility. Another - you could avoid facing the opposite wall, set up in the corner so the sound is going round the angles. Good luck
I'd be tempted to print the above post off and show it to the band, as a means of seeking everyone's understanding and agreement to keep the volume down Oh, also have a 31 band graphic with feedback detectors to hand Best of British
14.
7string on here uses Stewmac a lot. pm him cos I don't think he's ever had a duty problem.
Top Man, I thank you
15.
You wouldnt save much money even if they did. You would pay 20% vat on top of the selling price if they had a uk branch and you would pay it on an import. Sometimes if you get a small ish and not too expensive an item it slips through the net and you dont get charges
There's that too. Looks like UK suppliers if at all possible then.
16. Thanks folks I'll have a look at those sites for the right crowning tool. The angled one I'm using at the moment leaves too many tooling marks, so it's looking like a [expensive] diamond crowning tool [expensive]. Trouble with Stewmac is they seem to have all the right tools and no UK branch
17. Pretty much what it says on the top really. Is there a UK division of Stewmac that anyone's found ? There must be a way around that import duty, surely ? Cheers All

19. Believe it or not, I can't find the previous thread on this. Is there a difference in sound ? Ok, two cabs are often lighter to carry but ...

21. Joe sold me a practically new Hercules stand for a great price. Really friendly too We had some fun meeting up at Victoria Station, as my phone died that afternoon. Meeting at Victoria ? don't agree to meet at WH Smiths - there's two of them ! (guess what happened - yes, of course) Thanks Joe, well met Tom
22. Simon sent me an extremely well packaged pair of Fralin pick ups. Also friendly to have a natter with on the PM's as well It's all been said above and I'm in agreement, I'd definately deal with Simon again Cheers Tom
23. The Use of The Self by FM Alexander. ISBN 978-0-7528-4391-9 I'm up to page 70 at the moment
24. Can be very useful for some people. Can also take some time to do properly, as after all, the technique is all about learning a different way of doing things we already do, in other words, changing habits. We all know how easy that is
