1. I don't really like the feel or sound of flats. a few ears ago I bought a bass with a set of flats on them. I took them off and kept them in a draw. Occasionally I'll take them out and fit them to one of my basses, then realise they sound too indistinct and woolly for me and put them back in the draw. Maybe they are just not very good strings. They have gold wraps at the headstock end, anybody know what make they might be?
2. Led Zep or Atomic Kitten.
3. Check your fly is done up before you go onstage.
4. I know I shouldn't like them but a little light relicing for asthetic purposes never hurt anyone. A bass that looks like it's been dragged down the motorway, for 20 miles,is not my cup of tea.
5. As Elton John's bass player, Davie Paton, how he managed it. https://www.facebook.com/david.paton.58
6. Have a look at the wiring, there may be a loose connection somewhere.
7. This live track is my fave such beautiful slide guitar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbOlgESKbIc

9. Well my second-hand BF 1st generation compact sounds excellent. That was the first cab Alex manufactured. I can only guess how good the newer cabs must sound.
10. I really like the Sir Duke video. Excellent playing.
11. You're not an Elvis fan are you? Because I've got some bad news.
12. I went to see Goldfrapp about ten years ago and Charlie Jones, the bass player, was the epitome of cool. Gold lame trousers, porkpie hat, and a see through acrylic Precision. https://www.talkbass.com/threads/clear-p-bass-coachella.432314/
13. Thank goodness this never became a hit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzPCNha9YLo
14.
My vote would probably go to Sandi Thom's "I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker (With Flowers in my Hair)".
i feckin hate that song!
15.
It can sometimes give people the wrong idea that they dropped the product because it's not very good ,The ABM1000 & ABM neo cabs are excellent
Yes. I own a Mibass 550 which is a very, nice sounding D class head, that's small enough to fit into a gigbag. They don't make anything that can compete with GK or Aguilar, class D heads - i.e. compact and loud, any longer. I think they're going retro.
16. Ashdown have a tendency to introduce amps then scrap them after a year or so. Remember the superfly, little giant, Mibass Version one and two. They come and they go. I think they just bring them in to pander to people's GAS. After all, there's no point in making just one really good bass amp, that will be the only bass amp anyone will ever need and is really reliable. You'd soon go out of business if you did that.
17.
It's the normal basschat argument fodder..:-) Other examples include Pbass vs everything else Fender vs everything else Flats vs rounds Neo vs ferrite Valve vs everything else Class D vs everything else..
Heft......don't forget heft.
18. Like he says, get the J retro first and you'll not need to upgrade your pickups.
19.
I really wanted to play the "Precision JJ" [1] as I've been doing recently, or the Maruszczyk P/JJ... but said "fine, it's been a while, it deserves to be out".
I like this line. It sounds like you're talking about a child, not a bass I used to have 7 basses (down to 3 now) and I used to feel the same when I was deciding which one to take to the gig..
20.
Our guitarist uses a 20 watt valve combo and can still drown out the bass (and drums!). Maybe 15 watts is a sensible max for guitars?
I play with two guitarists, in two different bands. The first one had a VOX AC30 which was insanely loud and incredibly heavy. The second one had a Fender Deville 410 combo, which was (yes you guessed it) insanely loud and incredibly heavy. They have 'seen the light' and both have got themselves a, 15 watt, Blues Junior. They are more than able to keep up with a loud drummer, sound great and won't give themselves a hernia. If they play bigger venues they can just mic themselves up through the PA. I'm happy, they're happy, everybody's happy. It's the way to go.
21. I've played too many packed gigs, with a power mad guitarist and a gorilla on the drums. I don't want to be in the situation where I have to put everything up to 11 just to hear myself. It's nice to know, that if I need to, I can drown them both out
22. I'm more interested in the action between the 1st and 5th fret, which is where I play most of the time, rather than up the dusty end. Often I have to file the nut to get a low action in this area. You can twiddle away at the truss rod or the bridge saddles forever but if your nut is too high you'll never manage to get a low action.
23. I set my mid frequency on my J retro to boost the low mid, and turn it up full. It adds clarity and punch to my sound. I regularly get compliments on my tone from other bass players (if not my playing).
24.
Yes. I played with a bad drummer for 10 years and thought it was my playing at fault.
Yes a crap drummer will do that for you.
25. I sold a MIJ 62 reissue Jazz Bass to a member of Basschat a few years ago. They had a set of used but very playable, DR Hi Beams on them. He'd never tried them before but now he's a big fan. So yes, your buyers request is ridiculous.
