1. I think I've got over gas. i have bought and sold a lot of stuff over the last few years and I have to admit to myself that I have everything i need. I have an excellent amp and cab, I have a great playing and sounding Jazz Bass, with a J retro fitted (which makes it incredibly versatile), i have a P bass as a spare and I can't think of anything I need or want.. It's quite sad really.
2. It depends on the song. Long train running has a pretty simple structure so wouldn't take long. It depends on if I know the song by ear. I've got a good ear and pick stuff up pretty fast.

4.
I've done my best to make a video. This was recorded on my iPhone as I do not have any recording equipment. 6.
Just found this article as I was about to raise my own topic & did a search first.... I missed out on a beauty of a Zon bass in the BC classifieds, listed & sold within 2 hours.... Now, less than 3 weeks later & it's on The Gallery site for 50% more than it was offered on BC. I appreciate if the buyer gets it, doesn't like it & wants to resell or trade-in. Selling through a shop who wants commission, the 50% probably isn't too far off the mark. But, why not punt it back through BC and give someone else the opportunity? It's supposed to be a community after all.
I had a Basschat member, buy a Geddy Lee from me and trade it for a Stingray, with somebody else on Basschat, within hours of me handing it to him. The Stingray was up on Gumtree, within a day or two, for twice what the Geddy cost him. The guy told me he didn't play bass when I met him. I think he hangs around on here checking out the 'for sale' and 'wanted forums' . I assume he buys from the 'for sale forum' and sells to the 'wanted forum' and takes a cut each time. For somebody who doesn't play bass or own an amp (which is what he told me), he seems to be able to get his hands on an awful lot of them. He's been very active on Basschat for at least the last 5 years.
7. You can loosen the neck (probably best to remove the strings first) and pull it upwards towards the E string. Then re-tighten the screws while holding the neck in the new position. when you put the strings back on you should see an improvement. If this doesn't work, then you may have a slightly out of position bridge. In which case you would have to re-position it. Of course it may not bother you. In which case just carry on as you are
8.
Get some gigs for the band. Yeah, just like that, get some gigs, it's real easy. You just call a venue and say you have a band and they'll just book you right on the spot. I think there's a lot more to it than; "Get some gigs" Blue
At the local Womans institute, old people's care home, open mic night, go busking. It doesn't have to be a support slot with a reformed Led Zeppelin (although that would be cool)
9. Get some gigs for the band. The thought that you might f*** it up, in front of an audience, usually helps to concentrate the mind of the lazy musician.
10. There's some great bands in that line up - old and new.
11.
Are the pickups out of phase? That'll cause a Jazz to sound weak and trebly.

Hey guys. So a few months ago I picked up a new (to me) Squier Jazz Bass 70's natural in a trade, and even with the bridge pickup off and the tone control rolled off it's just way too bright and lacking low end for my liking. However since I absolutely love the feel of the neck, the the body shape, and the overall weight of it so much, I'm not quite ready to give up on it just yet. I've already tried flatwounds on it (which I didn't really like), and pure nickel strings, neither of which had that much of an efffect. Possible options I'm thinking of are new bridge, new pickups, or even modifying it to a P/J configuration like my other basses. I was just wondering if anybody here had this problem with this bass before? And, if so, were you successfully able to modify it to give it a more rounded or bassier sound?
Have a fiddle with the wiring. Pickups that are out of phase with one another will sound as you describe.
12. If they're out of phase then you will have to swop the wires around, however sure you are that you've soldered them correctly until your ears tell you that you've got it right. I've done exactly the same and been sure I wired everything up as they should be. Then realised, when I plugged the bass in, that somehow I'd got it wrong. It happens, It won't take long to figure out where you went wrong.
13.
Thank you! I have tried to find something like that but apparently not hard enough ;-)
KiOgon made a master vol, pickup blend, tone for my Jazz. It's a variation on the normal vol, vol, tone which is quite useful.
14. We played a Saturday every month at a venue, for 4 years. Sold a sh*t load of booze and filled the place up (you have to pay to get in). The crowd loved us and danced the night away. The owner, loved the money we made for him (even though he was a Jazzer and probably wasn't really into our music) and kept on booking us, as we pulled a crowd. Unfortunately he passed away and his daughter took over the bar. Since then we haven't been booked for any gigs and she ignores our emails. Now she books muso Jazz bands, which are not going to appeal to an under 30s crowd, on a Saturday night. Good luck to her, I hope she doesn't go out of business..
15. Just click on the link and you'll find what you need http://basschat.co.uk/user/7835-kiogon/
16. I remember the last time I recorded. I listened back to the bass track with just the drums and I my gast was flabbered when I heard all the ghost notes I was playing throughout the bass line. It sounded very messy but once the rest of the band came in it all blended in just fine.
17.
We often use our own PA which is an HK Elias PX. 1.6k but loud as hell for it's size and sounds great. This PA lives upstairs at mine and I end up moving it up and down, to gigs etc mostly on my own. This has been going on with differing PA's for over 10 years! To be honest the Elias is the most most compact PA we've ever had but I'm getting rather P'd of with it all. Other members basically refuse to store any of it! Question - Would a pair of FR800's be a suitable replacement? A 5 piece band would be going through it. Drums, 2 guitars, bass and 4 vocals? Max 200 people audience. I'm not a great fan of subs anyway as I think things (sound to me) get a bit muffled and wooly but adding one or two FH800s' later on is an option. I'm hoping for positives! 18. I tuned in while he was playing at tune that sounded a bit too much like freeform jazz for me. But after a while they calmed down and I quite liked the rest of the set I heard.
19. If the original speaker was 4 ohm I recommend you replace it with a 4 ohm one. It will still work with an 8 ohm speaker but, because of the added resistance, your amp will be quieter than it was with the 4 ohm speaker fitted.

21. They look EXTREMELY cheap and cheerful. £49.99 for a set of PA speakers? I recommend you have low expectations, to avoid disappointment.
22. The drummer in my band is about 54/55 and last weekend he had 5 gigs. He usually manages 2 to 3 per weekend. He's a great drummer (solid as a rock) so is in great demand. So stop yer moanin' yer not dead yet
23. Get a jazz bass and fit a John East J retro pre amp. Just slot it in and attach your pickups via the screw terminals (15 minute job - no soldering) and away you go. You'll never need another bass, because you'll be able to get any sound you want.
24. I get stir crazy if I don't gig. Feb and March were slow and I ended up chewing the furniture. April looks much busier. Maybe I need to get a life.
25.
That's the sort of statement made by someone who has yet to learn the difference between musicianship and music, and why for everyone except self-involved musicians the latter is far more important.
Very wise words.
