I remember my local venue, in the 90s, had a dynacord PA. I never knew they made bass combos.

G & L 5 strings are pretty good. I own a G & L L-2500 tribute and the B string sounds very tight and punchy. It's not flabby at all.
-
I have a friend who owned one. I remember he always had a real middy tone, which sounded naff on it's own, but sounded excellent once the band kicked in.

Why so many short scale basses at the moment?

I suggest you send a strongly worded letter to Andy Mooney. -
Why so many short scale basses at the moment?
gjones replied to Greg Edwards69's topic in Bass Guitars
I've read that Andy Mooney, the CEO of Fender, is specifically, trying to encourage women to get into playing guitars and basses. If you're an average size woman, a short scale bass is much easier to play. -
I bought a set of Dunlop Superbright roundwounds to put on one of my Precisions. It now sounds a lot more aggressive than my other Precisions.

When I was looking for one, about 18 months ago, I couldn't find one for under £1000, of course, as soon as I forked out a grand for one basschat was deluged with Stingrays going for £800 a pop. That's the way the cookie crumbles

Hmmmm......if there was no damage on the outer packaging when they returned the amp, do you think the damage might have occurred in transit from you to them?

Is it a club? Where do I sign up?

In the Empire Music video the guy said the tone was fully off and that the pickups had less top end than the previous Pro.
-
Nice finish. That pickup sounds very dark. There's not much clank on that P bass.

I sent my J retro back to John and he soldered the earth wire on for me!

I went to see Hothouse Flowers in Glasgow a few years ago. They were 2 hrs late and when they started I only had time to see 2 songs before I had to run for my train. They returned to Glasgow, a couple of years later and I got my moneys worth. They went on ,and on, and on, until over 2 and a half hrs later, I'd had enough and left in the middle of some huge extended jam. In the end they probably had to be dragged off by a big hook

I've got away, without any hearing damage, after 40 year of playing in loud bands. The only silver lining there is about this coronavirus lockdown of music venues, is that I'm unlikely to end up getting tinnitus anytime soon. Many of my fellow musicians have it and they all say it's a total pain in the butt.

I owned a couple of USA SUBs about 10 years ago. They had the 2 band EQ and I really loved the sound. I compared it to a bass guitar with a kick drum underneath each note. Each note had a real punch. I now own the 'Real Thing', a 2014 3 EQ Stingray, but it doesn't have the same punch as those old SUBs I used to own, although I have to admit the neck is much better.

I go with what the band and the song needs. If it's rock, I'll go with a gnarly tone, if blues a rounder bassier tone, whatever does the job is the tone I go for. I think you can only really stay with your signature tone if you're playing the same kind of stuff, day in day out. Geddy Lee's tone is not going to work in Level 42.

You should send them some total garbage. Garbled outtakes and stuff that could never be taken seriously and see what their reaction is. If they really love it and want to continue to promote your tracks, then you know it's a scam.

I bought a Fender Elite Precision from Guitar Guitar. It has an ebony fretboard. The fretboard is all black except for a weird pink grain, at about the 12th fret, it really bugs me. The guitarist in my band pointed it out and he likes it. I suppose if it ever gets stolen, I'll be able to identify it easily enough.

Your guitarist is a better bass player than you!

His hair might have been the thing that put her off He should have got a haircut and asked her out again -
They used to have a rubbish Peavey something or other, which I had the pleasure of destroying (it was on it's last legs, I just helped it along). 😀

I found an old Sound City 50 watt head in my attic (have no idea where it came from). I gave it to my brother in law, who is a pro guitarist. He owns Marshall and Fender combos but prefers the Sound City. It does the Marc Bolan, 70s sound, to a T.

I do love playing and owning basses but I also see them as an investment. Good quality bass guitars/6 string guitars, are one of the very few things that hold their value over the years. So when I have spare money, that otherwise would be just frittered away, I buy a bass guitar instead. I always buy secondhand, as they've already depreciated from their new selling price and are unlikely to depreciate any further. I have about a dozen USA and MIJ fenders, plus a Stingray in the 'Bank of Bass'. So far I haven't had to sell any of them but, it's good to know, if I did end up needing cash I could put them on the market.

Real-world gigging experiences post-COVID - how is it for you?
gjones replied to wateroftyne's topic in General Discussion
Eff all ☹️ Last time I had an extended period without playing, I ended up getting cramps when I started gigging again. I had to buy a set of those hand strengthener type things, weightlifters use to build up their forearms. I think I'll need to do the same once the gigs start again.......if they ever do. -
The protection racket bass case is pretty indestructible and not stupidly expensive.

My old MIJ Jazz Bass is my favourite bass. It has the sound that I look for in a bass and I tend to, subconsciously at least, try to make all my other basses sound like it (even the Stingray and Precisions).
