Wrong URL, should be www.playchecked.com. There's also www.musictag.co.uk although this doesn't seem to be a secure site.

I've not had that much exposure to the Yamaha's Mark, but lots of time with G&L. I had 4 of them working towards my ideal which was a Blueburst one with Maple FB. The neck is chunkier than the Yamaha's and also a bit narrower. Soundwise they can do pretty much anything and really justify the "best bass Leo Fender ever designed" tag they seem to have. With the almost endless combination of coil switching, pickup switching, active/passive/boost I don't think you would struggle to get the sound you want out of it. They are that well made, (by Cort), that having compared a Tribute to a US one, I could not see how you would justify the extra money, they are that good. Massively underrated and the Swiss Army Knife of basses.

How does your band go about getting gigs?
BassBunny replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
This is pretty much the way it is in all the bands I have played in over a considerable number of years. Some people are good at finding gigs and selling the band others aren't. With the current band it is myself and the singer who get all the gigs. Even if the other members get wind of a gig or are approached, it is inevitably passed to me to seal the deal. Sometimes I actually think I enjoy the thrill of the chase more than the actual gig. Any of the agencies we work for come to me as well. -
Dave Lunt in Stockport is the man for amp repairs particularly as your amp has a mess of tubes in it. He is a valve guru. It could be one of the pre-amp valves causing the problem.

That John Turnbull gets around a bit as well. Knew he played with Talk Talk as well as Ian Dury & The Blockheads but didn't know he was with Paul Young.
Oh, does anyone declare it as income? Hmrc styleeeee?
Absolutely and get a Tax rebate every year. If you have a good accountant even weekend warrior status can be offset against your normal wage. To answer the original Q. I guess it depends on the area. In the NW £200 - £300 for a pub is about average. Weddings/Functions are really down to the client budget. As has already been mentioned you need to be very slick and professional to be successful in the Corporate/Wedding arena but we have an agency representing us at £1600 for the 6 piece version of the band up to £2200 including the brass section.
If it was a 4 pole, would this be the reason it's not working?
If it was 4-pole and wired to +2, -2 it probably wouldn't work. Most Speakon's are wired +1, -1. Is the Speakon on your amp a combined Speakon/Jack? If so you can use a Jack to Jack speaker lead to test it.

Anyone got tabs for You're the voice by Forever Never in E?
BassBunny replied to solo4652's topic in Theory and Technique
If you look for the original by John Farnham, hey presto. There's a few attempts available including one on Songterr. You might have to transpose it to the key you want though. https://www.songsterr.com/a/wsa/john-farnham-youre-the-voice-tab-s7615t6?c=30309 The original was played on fretless. -
Cheers, I used the setting and tested all the leads. The speakers and cables were all working correctly. I followed the wiring diagram and success! It's fully working. Just wanted to take a moment to say thanks for all the advice on here. It's been really helpful in testing the parts and making sure I don't do the wrong thing.
I love a plan when it comes together.
Another quick question. How would I test the cables connecting the speakers within the cab? I have the multimeter but am trying to find how to test for broken cables and all anyone is showing is a polarity test which doesn't apply here. All I'd like to do is check one end to the other and make sure the cable is functioning like it should. What would the setting be for that? Thanks,
Same setting as you used to test resistance. If the cable is OK resistance will be "zero". If it is broken there won't be a reading. It might be worth indicating where you are located as there is a list of people somewhere on the site who are happy to help with repairs etc. and it might be an idea to enlist some help.

From your original readings I would have assumed the speakers were 8Ω and a combination of series/parallel would give you 4Ω. The fact that the x-over has 8Ω written on would indicate that it is an 8Ω cab and the speakers are still wired series/parallel but a different arrangement. Need to somehow establish exactly what the impedance should be and the impedance of the speakers.
-
I would very much doubt they would be wired the same. Depending on the impedance of the speakers will determine how they should be wired and that may be why you have already noticed a difference. Some more details are really needed. Is it a 4/8/16 Ohm Cab? What is the impedance of the speakers in the 810? Pictures and any info you can see on the drivers needed. Is there a x-over?

Drop-in empty cabinet for 350W 8 ohm Eminence Delta 10B?
BassBunny replied to solo4652's topic in Repairs and Technical
I have an empty BFM Omni 10.5 knocking around, not sure if the Delta is compatible, I know Deltalites and Basslites work well as that's what I've had in it previously. Great cab and pretty light though.
Steve, if the Delta IS compatable, (drop Bill Fitzmaurice a message), grab this. Awesome cabinets and will blow the socks of your GK. -
Drop-in empty cabinet for 350W 8 ohm Eminence Delta 10B?

Steve, why not just leave the GK at the rehearsal room? Once you take one of the speakers out it becomes useless anyway. -
Brother Strut
Saw them last night in Manchester. Excellent.
Could do worse than contact Mike Walsh of Zoot fame. He's not too far out of London - Silver End, near Witham, just up the A12. He's got a Facebook page you can contact him through. He did precisely the same for me a few years ago and made me a spare, fretted neck for my Les Evans fretless.
+1 for Mike (Zoot) Walsh.

I think Aaron Armstrong, (Kent Armstrong pickups), do repairs and re-winds.

I did look at those but they are 44mm and I'm not sure what effect that would have.
Definitely. Ridiculously tight and so much energy. From where I was I could only really feel Rocco. Couldn't hear much not more definition. But man they grooved. I'm in my thirties which ain't that old but I was surprised at the amount of proper young people were there.
I was surprised at the amount of "young uns" there as well.

They were absolutely awesome, a demonstration on how it should be done. I've been waiting 43 years for them to come back to Manchester as normally on European tours they only do London at weekend and I have been gigging. Marcus Bell is a great fit on vocals but agree "Rocco" could have been a bit higher in the mix. It was David Garibaldi's first gig back as well. Great to see him back in the drum chair. Sound guys in general did a good job as when I went to see Soul2Soul and James Taylor Quartet the sound was so muddy at the bottom end you couldn't pick the bass out at all. Met Rocco afterwards and what a lovely guy. Proof provided. Enjoyed the support, Stone Foundation, as well. They appear to have a lot of support from Paul Weller which shows in the slightly Style Counsel feel of the band. Might be an idea to let us know where you are based. Also there is a "sticky" just above listing Amp Techs around the country. If all else fails speak to Bernie Goodfellow as he used to be the UK distributor for EBS.

Cheers Stevie. The internal diameter is 48mm as far as I can tell. Having had a hunt around the nearest I can find is 50mm as in this one. https://www.audiomate.co.uk/proddetail.php?prod=Black-Moulded-Plastic-Port-Tube-50mm-Internal

I appreciate that this is not particularly bass related but am sure the BassChat massive should be able to help. I am helping a friend dispose of some HiFi that includes some freestanding speakers. The speakers are front ported and whilst they have been stored one of the ports has "vanished". I need to source a replacement and so far cannot find the exact same port. I have no problem replacing both so the question is: As long as the internal diameter and overall length of the port is the same will a different port tube do the job?. I can find ports with the same internal diameter that will need cutting down but the cabinet will need a bit of "modifying" as the outside diameter is different due to the slightly different design.
