I had this amazing pre-amp in one of my ACG's for a very short time, but decided I prefer the ACG filter pre-amp. Although it says Chrome on the box, I purchased a set of Black knobs after the event and they are the ones that are with it. The U-RETRO 01 4 KNOB DELUXE, based on the J-RETRO 01, is a universal highly flexible on-board preamp and EQ system. The standard pots have 10.0mm threaded bushes to allow rear mounting in the wood of a bass body. Flat wire connections to the pots allow for flexible layout. Its high quality circuit uses one single knob and three dual concentric knob stacks. It includes a passive blend plus a 3 band equaliser with bass, variable frequency mid, treble and bright function. A passive tone circuit is also included which operates in both active and passive modes. This is the "flat response" version and with it being a fairly recent model is the screw terminal one.

Have decided it is time to thin the herd and so am selling one of my 3 Bass Collections 5 strings. In virtually unmarked condition and in a stunning metallic Blue/Grey it plays like a dream and weighs practically nothing. I have just changed the pre-amp to a brand new Artec SE-2 which has transformed the bass. The original , (which is identical to the one in Tune Maniacs), has an iffy bass pot. Only affects the extremities of Bass-Cut and I am trying to source a replacement pot. either way the original pre-amp can be included. Light as a feather with one of the nicest necks I have come across. UK courier included in the price. Any questions, just give me a shout.

Squire Vintage Modified 5 String P-Bass in a stunning Candy Apple Red. These have a very good name and this one plays incredibly well. It's an Indonesian made one, so from the Cort factory, and is unbelievable quality regardless of the price. The lightweight contoured basswood body fits you like a glove, while the fast maple neck gives you classic Precision playability. And speaking of classic, this instrument's Fender-designed split-coil Precision pickup is perfectly positioned to deliver fat, punchy bass tone. I have upgraded electronics with CTS pots and a switchcraft jack. The bridge has been upgraded to a brass Wilkinson which is just superb and the scratchplate has been replaced with a Mint Green one for an even more "vintage look". When i replaced the pots i went for Linear instead of Log pots so there is a more even change in the Volume and Tone. Also went for a 0.1 μF orange drop capacitor to give it a bit more "Motown Thump". There are a couple of dings on the back that I cannot photograph as it's so shiny and they haven't gone through the paint. Also the previous owner did a strange "mod", that i now understand, by adding 2 additional strap buttons above and below the original one. Apparently they are so you can stand the bass up without it falling over but i have removed them and plugged the holes and drop-filled with the nearest colour nail varnish I could find. You have to look quite hard to see them.

If you only bought it in Oct 2017 looks like it needs to go back under warranty. If you have tried everything possible and it still doesn't work I would be inclined to contact TC for advise and then return it if they can't come up with an answer.

Does the bass have an active bypass or passive setting, (either a switch or pull one of the control knobs)? If so, when the battery dies just switch to passive.

I always use Duracell Industrial and buy from eBay, (about £10 for 10). I have used Lithium batteries which last for an eternity but that was when the £ to $ was better and i could get them from the States. Would never use an unknown pound shop brand.

The Luminlay on my ACG's were fitted by Alan himself. The other one was done by Philip Porter in Salford. http://www.philipporterguitars.co.uk/

Does my pub band really need 4 PA speakers?

Yep, one of those as well. Need to put brain into gear before typing. -

I've worked with lots of drummers who used electronic kits and most used either a back line amp themselves and monitor for choice of mix or 2 monitors. One for the drums and one with an overall mix for the fallbacks. -
+1 for Luminlay. Have 3 basses fitted with them.

If the don't arrive in time Steve, give me a shout. I've a brand new pair of Elacins that are my spares and we can work something out. -

Steve, agree with everything mentioned so far. It is massive overkill and will be causing you a lot of problems having speakers at the rear. As far as earplugs go, get a pair of proper Audio ones not the type shooters use. Alpine Musicsafe or Elacin er 25 are a good starter. What they do is filter out the harmful frequencies and still allow you to hear what is going on. I suspect the "shotgun" type ones are just designed to block out as much noise as possible. It's not a bad idea to use earplugs anyway regardless of whether you feel you need them. -
If it seems pretty daunting, as you say, then finding a decent guitar tech is the answer. That said if you take it slowly and methodically there is no reason why you can't do it yourself and it is very satisfying doing your own setups.

It isn't wrong. The 9v battery supplies the pre-amp and then they must take a 3v feed from the pre-amp to power the pick-ups. Really need a schematic of the pre-amp to confirm that is how it works. It looks like if you want to use the original pickups you will need the correct Ibanez pre-amp.
-
The problem you may have, and an inherent issue with the Lo-Z pickups is that they run off 3v, so unless there are 2 different batteries in.the bass, the 3v must be supplied from the stock pre-amp. Running the pickups at 3v is also likely to restrict headroom as well.

No capacitor needed then. -
Jazz Bass - one volume control and nothing else

In your original post you say you have the tone control "Full On". Is that as in full Bass or full Treble? Depending on which you may need to add a capacitor to the circuit to replicate the tone control. -
Doing away with a push/pull knob on a preamp?
BassBunny replied to ambient's topic in Repairs and Technical
Yep, that's the very chap and wire it as per page 1 of your diagram. Currently it will probably be wired as per Page 2 top right. -

Not sure which Bart pre-amp you have but here are all the wiring diagrams and all configurations, so you should be able to easily rewire yours for Vol only. https://www.bartolini.net/electronics-wiring-diagrams/ It looks like Bart use both 25K and 250K pots, so identifying the pre-amp will help. It should be on the label visible in the picture. -
+1 for any of the East Jazz pre-amps. Easy Peazy to fit and no soldering.
