It's arrived and it's very shiny.
      It also sounds bloody lovely.

  2. Happy New Year you wonderful bunch of misfits!!!!

But surely if we're *all* misfits then we all fit in here, which means none of us are misfits...

  3. If I were an old Dimarzio Model One, where would I be hiding?

It's definitely still in the house and not on a bass. Not in either parts drawers...
I've obviously put it "somewhere safe" 😖

If I were an old Dimarzio Model One, I would be a very wily and cunning old Dimarzio Model One and would be hiding amongst a bunch of other things that looked a bit like old Dimarzio Model Ones.

Alternatively, I would hide in a place where my owner would never think of going in a million years -- e.g. behind the panty liners and leg waxing kits.

  4. For the last 3 months, at least an hour a day, I’ve played my Fender/Status fretless/flatwounds exclusively. I’ve just picked up a fretted bass with roundwounds on. This feels weird, the strings are so rough 😂

    1. BoomTing

      BoomTing

Laughing at the strings"Feel Rough". I think flats sound great on Status (maybe all graphite?) necks fretted or fretless

      lowregisterhead

My first bass had tapewounds on it, which I played for months, knowing no better. Then a friend gave me his bass with roundwounds on to try. I really didn't like it! Shortly after that I broke the G on my own bass, and the only singles the local music shop had were Rotosound Swing Bass, so I stuck one of those on. Plonk, plonk, plonk, zzzziiiiinnnnng! I slowly converted, a string at a time! 🙂

  5. Happy Cliff Burton Day, everyone!

  6. New bass has arrived!! :)

  8. I’m putting in an order with Mouser this Sunday. If anyone needs anything small, that wouldn’t be cost effective to buy in its own, send me a PM.

  9. There's a gig tonight in a park next to my office. They're sound checking at the moment. 20 mins for a drum check, 10 mins for guitar, 10 mins for keys. about 45 seconds for bass... Now on to vocals. Turns out it's Sister Sledge... Time to put my iPod on...

    1. Nibody

      Nibody

used to work in Brum near the Villa ground. Remember Springsteen soundchecking.. no ipods there (mind you it was 1986 ish...)

Sister Sledge are WAY cool. Never mind your ipod, get yourself a ticket....

No iPods in '86 for sure, but I do remember my Sony Walkman with great affection.

      +1 for @shug 's comment :)

  10. At a pub on the Isle of Wight and reinforced the fact that I’m really not a fan of “classic rock”...

    1. Soledad

      Soledad

Probably agree, give us a few example tracks as the 'classic' tag can mean different things. Worse still, I was invited into a 'prog rock' band not long ago. Had to decline.  I VERY think not :)

  11. Drinking too much on a week night isn't big or clever...

I need to curl up under my desk as sleep for the rest of the day...

Used to do this all the time!  I found I didn't get so much sick as I did cranky/irritable the next day.  I guess I wasn't too much fun to work with!  Knocked it in the head last year and it was the best thing I ever did.

I was down at our other office with my manager. So we went out with colleagues. 8:15pm my manager said "one more for the road. back at the hotel by 9?". everyone agreed. We then got talking about favourite bands/albums/gig. Got back to the hotel just after midnight, after 3 more "one for the roads". My manager, she's a bad influence...

  12. Last call if anyone needs anything from Mouser. If you need something small give me a shout.

I've got an order that's above the threshold for free shipping and I'm putting it in this evening.

    1. Dood

      Dood

I bought some great (and unusual) switches for pickup configuration from Mouser. Super fast delivery and high quality! I cant think of anything I need right now, but I wanted to say thank you for a kind BC offer!

  13. Found a new time waster better than continually updating courier tracking.

Updating the fabrication tracking of custom PCBs!! it's currently at 62% of the way through.

and then I get to watch the shipping tracking!!

  14. Just walked by my Aria Pro II SB Black n Gold. It put a big grin on my face.
    That's all... thanks.

Fab Basses, mine was stolen in 1992... Could never find another, and by the time they reissued them, I was a dyed in the wool Fender guy.

I'm taking mine to the grave/furnace!

It's a great feeling, when a bass has that effect on you. Very pleased for you sir :)

  15. Having a week away in Dorset. Place says it has free wifi. Except 4 of the 5 hubs you can connect to don't have an internet connection.

So everyone is using the one that works and it's slower than 1990s dial up...

Burns-bass I am enjoying the holiday, but after walking 6-7 miles walking along beaches, stooped over, and occasionally bashing rocks, fossil hunting with 2 kids in tow. I was hoping to relax watching some films on Netflix.

This morning I remembered I can use the BT Open wifi side of the hubs. Whilst not broadband speeds it's still 9 times faster than using the other side...

  16. Yay! Tickets for Pop Will Eat Itself and Ned's Atomic Dustbin gigs, next year, have been purchased!

    I can pretend I'm 19 again!

Best to hide Spam in the salad and leave it in the vegetable drawer.

  18. After over 30 years using heavy gauge strings (110-50, and more recently 120-50 balanced tension), I got a set of 100-40 today to put on my SB BnG. The bass feels even nicer to play now.

I've used 105-45 occasionally, when I've needed strings in a hurry and had to go into a local shop to buy them. To me they didn't feel too different to 110 sets.

I am using Rotosound RB50's at the moment. I like them. Mind you, I,m a hard plucker.

My Steve Harris P had Steve Harris Rotos on for a long time. 110/95/75/50, they took some pounding...

  19. Finally had chance to try out the SB Elite Black & Gold...

Holy poop!! It's massively more punchy than my SB Elite ever has been!

  20. After seeing The Damned last night, with Paul Gray back on bass, I have developed gas for a big valve amp and a Ric... :dash1:

Don't think Scabies will ever return....sadly there's just too much bad blood
Shame though - I really wish he would return (even for half a set). Classic line-up, and their best.... Black Album and Strawberries :)
