Fender Custom Shop - new additions to 2015 range
JTUK replied to Chiliwailer's topic in Bass Guitars
I wouldn't. I'd return the CS to what it was originally. A bespoke custom shop. At the moment, it's just glorified production-line stuff with fancy marketing and case candy.
I agree, which is why I said there was nothing of interest..I couldn't see anything that was what I would understand a custom shop to be, and the models looked the same as much of the usual fare in an already bloated and confused line.. -
If you play too far but you'd have to be oblivious to do that. I don't like 'rushers' and I always want to play with a drummer who can lay back, by choice but I think my skill is to make most...most, drummers sound good. There are some that you just can't help.. but then I wouldn't book them and if someone else does, that is down to them. One of us isn't going to do the next one tho...

Alternative (conventional design) to the MarkBass LittleMark2 sound
JTUK replied to gillento's topic in Amps and Cabs
Eden?
I was going to say that I can hear my valve in the pre-amp working on my SWR SM400, but I do drive it very hard. If you could find a SM900, then that would be a good call as that would have the headroom to not push the pre. I assume a big Eden WT amp would do the same. The best amp with the DB212 is the DB750/751...by miles, IMO. I can get close-ish if I run the TH500 with the bass down, but then I'm not sure it would be man enough for that band line-up..?? -
Fender Custom Shop - new additions to 2015 range

Nothing there of interest for me.... -
I reviewed some for my local shop and the tend to have Arias, Subs and the like in as that is their market. I rated the Revelations Jazzes as the best in shop and like them a lot more than the Subs, for example. So, assuming the hardware is average, and for that price, it is understandable, they pay well enough for the budget, IMO.
Hi PTB, Thank you for that. Part of my reason for this thread was to see if anyone knew of any decent bass amp suppliers near me - I hadn't looked at Bass Direct and it's great to see there's a decent shop near me!
Bassgear isn't far either... would certainly check out what they have in stock. They are a real treasure chest of top end cabs, IMO...and amps for that matter..AND basses..!!
I have a barefaced super 12T & I find my Mark bass heads sound very thin compared to my Ashdown ABM 400 RH head .
If I am looking for a certain projection of frequencies, and these tend to be higher mids that really cut through, I think the cab needs to be biased here, typically, I don't like to force it too much from the amp.
.................... There is no "one size fits all". If there was we'd all be playing Squiers.
I wouldn't go that far..
i wonder why the other bass makers in New York don't price there basses in the same way.? I'm sorry but Fodera price there basses very high, because they have very cleverly developed a name for themselves, and a reputation. There is no way Vinnie and his team make an instrument so superior to Roger Sadowsky or NewYork Bass Works, that they need to charge so much more, its just nonsense. they charge that much because they know they can get away with it.
I think you'd have to look at how they made the bass... and it may well be that Sadowsky is a parts bass by comparison and some of those parts are shipped in from other 'makers'. If you maintain a workshop full of hand crafting tradesmen, then I can see why you are getting close to double figures. Having said that... a few Foderas I've looked at and picked up recently would not persuade me. I'd rather a proper Ken Smith if in that ball park, but then also, I'm not into the coffee table thing anymore...so..?? Do I mind what these people want to charge...no, I just make my choice about whether I want one at that figure.
the worst amp ive ever played through was an Ampeg SVT CL head and matching 8x10. Had zero tone that ampegs are known for and I was really disappointed when it sounded like a fart in a dustbin underwater.
Could well have been a hire-rig that had been hammered. I was offered an SVT 2 with an 810 Ashdown but it sounded awful, so I went for the Eden rig instead.

I've just got into trouble when I said that someone that who is quitting lessons after 3 weeks as he doesn't feel he is progressing, was basically not going to be a guitar player if that is all he could devote to it. Some of us have been playing over 40 years, I'd imagine, and the trick is when you stop learning and having that drive. Because as sure as anything, you never stop learning, you just lose the vision or desire. The more you know, the more you know you don't know. IMO. As long as you keep pushing, things will get better. There are very natural players and some who have to force it and also some who are happy where they are, but 2 years is no time at all to beat yourself up... You need to find more things to get your inspired, to keep you fresh and make you pick up the instrument day-in, day-out.

I agree that the guy must know he has been fingered and he needs a way out.. and it might suit all involved if that is the way it turns out.. Since you have asked for the Police help and they say let them do their job, then that is what you should do... The guy who 'stole' the case has to play out his hand and none of this is your fault. If he gets a bollocking or a police record,..?? he should have thought of that before.

I demo'd the S112 with the SL112 and the CN112 on a visit with fellow BC-er Policesquad and the thoughts are here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/248837-cn112-v-sl112-v-s112/page__p__2607747__hl__sl112__fromsearch__1#entry2607747 The problem, IMO, is whether the TH500 at 8ohms is enough for your gig...or any other 500/4 ohms amp, for that matter..? It isn't for me as I ran a gig with a TH500 into 8 ohm Aguilar cab the other day and I wont be doing that again. I am going to do that same gig with a 4ohm cab, but the issue is more with the way I play ( lightly ) but you may be able to do it..and in that case the choice between SL112 and TKS112 is ok. If one cab is enough then so will the other be, and it is simply a choice between which cab you prefer. In general, I don't think loudish gigs are possible with just a single 112 at 8ohms.. but you might find it differently. As far as which cab goes... I found in favour of the TKS S112 which is why I've got them on order. The S112 is a magical little box sound-wise, IMO.. and the build is exemplary, IMO.
-
Do you need it to perform as per the 212..? I think there are lightweight options to do that, but I'd tend to run 2 rigs and horses for courses. I've used lightweight 112's for the loud pub and I have the bigger rig for stages and good load-ins. Depending on the gigs that you do, maybe you just need to augment your stage gear, rather than selling the Eden...especially as you like it so much.
-
On the basis of the story here, I would be inclined to maybe 'believe' the story, but I think I would make it known that the police would be involved. Anyone who is innocent in all this would not mind that at all ...but you have to be careful where you point the suspicion. I'd FB it ..but you'll need pics ect etc.. There are 2 new faces here and I'd be wary of both. On the face of it..carrying out gear is no issue, but making sure where it is, is the issue... I would have put it in a well light obvious place, but of corse, people do switch off.
-
Well, a 4 will force a few players to play a certain way... which is no bad thing. But I'm a converted 5-er and I'd never go back.
I doubt he came with the express intention f nicking something. More like it was opportunistic. Best case he took it down and left it by the car and someone else made off with it (I bet that'll be his excuse anyway). A good reminder not to trust people you don't know. I don't let audience members onto the stage or help pack away at end of gigs.
Yes...can't see this as planned as he will likely have leff some sort of trail. His phone number, his internet profile on FB or JMB..?? plus someone knows where he is based...? Surely, you know something about him and his past bands and what kit he used.?? Someone must have asked this sort of stuff..he can't just be a complete random off the I-net..?

I'm in Kent and I know a lot of people.... what was his name? Assume you can't be 100% sure of what exactly happened but you can say where it happened etc etc .. I definitely report it to the police and the studio owner
-
If it is a better bass than your current one then ok.. if not.. what are you doing?
-
But still around and doing 'sterling' work from abuse they get in rehearsal studios.. and I use the word 'sterling' very lightly.. but I wonder if you'll be able to say the same with all the amps that are all PCB's that no one will even try and repair, in 20 or so years time..??
Louis Johnson slap technique could take your eye out but sounds amazing.
Very very dated sounding now... and very bruising on the hands. I'd be very surprised if he hasn't had big problems by now beating his hands up like that ..?
-
I'd say two notables are Entwhistle and Geddy Lee. They have carved a niche for themselves that can only really exist in their own bands and they'd never really be able to move out of it. Having said that, JE greta right hand makes up for an awful claw grip left hand, IMO
This Sei on the marketplace is black as black can be
I don't like black basses myself, but this kills it for me..

I think you have to hear a 5 st and that makes it a different instrument. If you think it is just a 4 with a low B then I can see why it wont work.
