1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lg0h9KTedGg no no no..!!!
 2. The problem why most bands struggle when outside the box in pubs is lack of keys and that means gtr and bass have such a load to carry and that makes them very predictable. But getting a good one is not easy. Add in female lead vocals which lend themselves to soul and things are getting thin...for a funk blues band. Funky blues will do ok in pubs but some tracks can die a death at parties/functions. But........... I'm all for bands being adventurous with their choice of numbers.. It is difficult not hearing the band..I pick numbers when I know what each player is good at... or rather, not crap at. Prog gtrs and funk riffs are a BIG dangerous area, for example... ditto prog drums and funk in general..??
 3.
Well, I got them all wrong - but I'm neither surprised nor upset! An interesting test, and this thread should be made a sticky due to the huge number of times that people say they know what a certain speaker size sounds like.... they can then be referred to this thread!
I don't agree as the test was designed to confuse. I say that because TKS don't currently have a 210 in their product line, iirc, and if they did, I doubt they'd make it sound like cab B... so the test was a bit of fun. What you can make a cab sound like and what you actually make it sound like can be two different things.. why use 10's that could go to 4.5khz, for example..( don't know which drivers ) and chop/choke it with a cab design. Unless TKS release it as a production cab, the test means not a lot, IMO. and if they did release it, I think they'd have a LOT of work to do around x=over points..??
 4.
I haven't. A few weeks ago, GK amps were definitely on my short list - but then (following a chat with a local BC member) a TC RH750 became available at an excellent price. It wasn't for me (too complicated!) but I traded it for my current TH500. Part of the problem is that I don't have a lot of disposable cash to spend on an amp. The GK500 was within my budget, but I was advised that the Aggie was "better"... This thread details some of my problems and decisions - http://basschat.co.u...ew-amp-dilemma/ I have never owned or even used a GK amp, so I am happy to try one, should one become available. Sadly I have neither the time nor the inclination to sit in a typical music shop and try lots of amps. Also, unless I could use them with my current cab, the experience would be rather pointless anyway! Hopefully this week I will be trying a Markbass F1. I've never tried any MB gear either, so that should be interesting! I'm starting to wish that I'd simply held on to my Hartke LH500!
I think you need to get out and try stuff and form your own opinions rather than read what other ppl say about certain things...for perspective..?? Your definition of 'distorted' which may mean 'warm' is puzzling. Warm, drivey, grindey ( over driven ) distortion, fuzz is my take in that order..?? YMMV, of course.
 5. Ok, membership around 32k, most of whom are inactive so some reports would typically say that 75% of a site content comes from less than 10% of active members..?? so I'd say that looking at the post count of missing members is possibly significant . Not really wishing to stir anything up so much as i'd be pretty concerned about key or worthwhile posters going missing in such a short space of time. It doesn't matter so much what opinions they have as long as they have them and post, IMO..in a reasonable way. It is the lifeblood of a forum.
 6.
Quite agree there Skank, Blues posts are mostly thought inducing, rather than provoking, and get a wide range of responses.
I, too agree. Blue is a valuable contributor and I enjoy his topics.
 7. I'd say set your own tone and educate a few people. I find the material is less critical if you play it well.
 8.
Hmmm..what is 'good'? Who knows really. what's good for one person , another might find it bad. To be honest I get the feeling in this thread that there is a snobishness about it. Someone maybe hasn't posted in several months....could be for several reasons. Sold his/her bass, told by a spouse that there will be no more internet forums as it takes up cuddle/diy time etc. Why jump on the idea that it is because some posters are rude. what I find strange is in this thread there have been a few comments about not knowing someone off this forum...actually outside the forum. Why is this? I suppose it's because you have enough friends already, and no need to cluter things up with others off a forum. NOTE: Not sure if that came across correctly. Good poster = a lot of posts mostly of non relevent nature? Good poster = A few posts but very helpful? ................
I wouldn't know when those I'm talking about joined so being here from the start means not a lot to me. But, they do have an awful lot of posts and not all of them posted glib one liners in OT to get there. Not that there is anything wrong with glib one liners anyway... it is social enough. I'd only meet up with people I had something in common with and was relatively local.. I'm also pretty sure they didn't just drift away...
 9. Wasn't Geddy Lee was it..???
 10.

Yep, you have to laugh at that one
 11. I'd prefer thru the body but it isn't a deal-breaker in itself.. If the bass doesn't sound good thats the deal-breaker.
 12.
.............. Most missed posters? TBBC and Dr Dave, pair of ***** as they are :-)
I'd forgotten about them... so they weren't on my 'miss' list
 13.
What is that ethos and who should be ensuring that the founding principles are adhered too? I think most people are happy to follow rules and guidelines but how can you be sure everyone knows what they are?
I wouldn't know as wasn't here in the beginning and like I say, I don't have any interest in cliques or clubs. To me, it is what it is, which is a central resource and a place to participate/chat. I've met very few BC-ers and have no real interest in doing so.. if it happens for a good reason, then so be it, but I'm not fussed about it otherwise. I have too many musical friends I need to get to see already. I do detect a change somewhere though... and this place is not the place it was. I can get through the threads pretty quickly now... which can be good thing...so..??
 14.
Was going to use my Genz Streamliner head with it which I'd imagine is similar to the ToneHammer.
Not sure as haven't tried them together... but we did put a PF500 with a cab and that is close-ish to the TH as I think Aguilar is stealing Ampeg's ground..and that worked very well.
 15.
Comments like that do not help me trying to avoid buying a DB750 JT - already loving the TH500 and was hoping that was as good as it gets. Drat!!
Lozz, I fired it up at home the other day so a very pertinent A/B with my TH500 and same cab. It is quite a world apart to my ears but then I'm not the person to talk to when extolling the virtues of lightweight amps... I do find them boxy and sterile ( the ones I've tried ) ...but... I totally get why you wouldn't want to lug a 60lb ?? 750 around.... and altho I haven't weighed it, it is as substantial lift and whoever calls it 43lbs of the AG site must come from another planet. With that in mind, I am glad I also have a TH500. As these go, they are good, just not the same as the real deal and don't believe anyone who tries to tell they are close enough I recently hired it out and tech'd it and it made sense of all the basses that used it... pretty flat on the dials and none of the basses my sort of thing, but they sounded 'great' through it... so yes, my treat.. !!! But you wouldn't like it as it's heavy... that is your consoling fact
 16.
Yes who are the 'Good' posters please? As someone with only a year on the forum i see posts from the same people most of the time. Did they post about particular topics or is it their conduct that denotes them as good?
As I said, not sure I want to pick out 'my' defintion' of good posters but at a guess I would say they would have 30,000 posts between them.. so maybe substitute 'very active' rather than anyone I specifically gel with meaning 'good'. There aren't that many threads than can afford to lose that sort of input, and I've felt that you have to look pretty hard for more than 4 worthwhile threads on the whole board...??? I don't see that as a good trend... altho of course, I also think these sort of sites have a shelf life and 5 years seems a pertinent cycle in the life of these things before they becomes commercial and stuffed with ads and the same threads pop up again and again.. It depends how bored you get going around and round in circles..!!
 17.
It's okay. I'm back now lads. Seriously...which members are we talking about as I seem to see the same folk posting. However, I'm quite new to the forum...maybe 9-10 months.
I didn't really want to make it about specific people as such... so wasn't going to name names.
 18. Didn't know that sort of history and because I don't really do cliques and such, I hardly know anyone here off site so not really aware of anything like that. I've seen some very good posters just vanish, so thought they'd had a fight over a thread and I'd missed it.. That wouldn't explain all of the absences tho so I guess things are changing. That in itself wont make any difference to me but I always think the real value of places like this aren't the high numbers of members ...as a significant number of them will hardly contribute anything at all... it is the core 'community' member and wealth of knowledge that are the things of value. Without that, all you'll have is a members scheme but no community...
 19. I lusted after one when I was a kid and learning to play but it wasn't an option due to cost. By the time I'd a bit of experience and money to buy one I'd pretty much grown out of them and the final nail in the coffin was when I played one...wrong, wrong, totally wrong for me and not helped by the general playability of them. After that, well and truly cured of any sort of interest whatsoever. Oh well..!!
 20. Or why are they leaving...? I count 5 in recent weeks and another couple of prolific posters who have drastically reduced their activity. Losing one can just be that they've found better things to do but half a dozen..?? and these are all high count and decent, IMO, posters...!! What is going on..??
 21.
I sorted it out by repositioning it...
Understand that, but I have the sound working from anywhere so don't have to worry about Gammas or positioning etc etc ... and we all know positioning isn't always kind to bass players. I just saying that a good sound that cuts thru is a Major advantage. IMO
 22. Recently used a PJ min combo, with 4x5 speakers...great sound but it will have a limit. I never get a big sound from little combos so would be sceptical for my needs, but it seemed like quality kit. I would be far more confident I'd get more mileage out of a TKS S112 with something like the TH500. I wouldn't do a proper gig with 1x112, but maybe some people can. Would defo do our rehearsals tho...
 23. If he sorts out the sound of the cab so it isn't dull then positioning wont matter too much...
 24. I'm sure I'll come up with plenty of things to try and bring out what I want to hear..
 25. Was offered tickets for last night but couldn't go... Don't feel so bad now
