1.
Yes. There are two types of performance. It's music so it should have a certain amount of spontaneity. If you over rehearse a tune until it is tight, the solos are note for note, the endings are exactly the same etc, the banter between songs is rehearsed, it (IMO) begins to get sterile. You see this in corporate bands all the time. If you are playing a corporate gig you need to get to this level of sterility. If you are playing a pub gig you need the music to breathe so the rehearsals have a different slant.
We've not found this to be true but then we aren't an out and out function band and will vet the gig to see if it fits us... but our live show is very live and that is what sets us apart and why ppl book us... We enjoy that aspect so want to keep it in the gig. Sterility is a killer, IMO...so I want no part of it. MY new band will have it as well......
 2. Not sure why bass players get too bent out of shape for dispersion.... it's more critical for higher frequencies, IMO.
 3. I like the flood of the Ledj 7q5,..might have to look at the closer.
 4.
Fixed?
No, not really because you have to factor in keys and other monitoring as well...and whether that backline is going to have to do the job out front.. To avoid a lot of this, we sat down and went thro compatible sounds and how it should work together, The breakthru was the gtr knowing he needed less bass when you have keys AND bass to clutter up the sound. That is probably one of the main reasons why gtrs don't want a keyboard in the band.. but it also needs the keys to know what to do with their left hand...
 5.
There's no reason why the 115 wouldn't have more top end than the 410. Billy Sheehan purposely uses 15's to run only top end and 410's for lows. That big neck pickup on his bass just runs through the 410's he uses. What I've never been able to figure out is, if the traditional given is smaller speakers for high and top end, why do guitarists use 12's?
Because they think they are bass players and some use too much bass. A 2x12 and powersoak is as much as most gtrs need.... IMO. but I'm pleased when they turn up with a 112 for a small gig. 212 for a bigger stage. I'm always bemused when bands don't consider or even know what else they are playing with...
 6.
Because not all of us have the luxury of being to order an entire set-up in one go. Sometimes we replace one cab at a time (from what is available new or second-hand) and then maybe don't get on with the matching amp... so that gets sold/traded and so on. Many of us have the "cobbled together" set ups.
I tried out mine in context so knew how to build up what I needed...even if I took about a year to put the final pieces together..
 7. The Revelation range is worth a look. The wood and generally build seems very good for its pricepoint and you could swap out the cheap hardware if you needed to..?? But as a playable package, I'd say they are 'pretty good' for the money.
 8.
This. Probably... Interestingly, back in the day when I had the archetypal Trace Elliot "stack" (1048 and 1518) I used to prefer the sound with the 4x10 on the bottom and the 1x15 on top. Both cabs were the same width and depth so it made no difference to their "stackability", but it did affect the sound (to my ears, standing right in front of it). Ironically, the 1x15 had more definition and more top end than the 4x10! To the OP - they are your cabs, put them however they sound/look/feel best. If you've got long speaker cables, try one on each side of the stage!
You really are trying to start an argument
 9.
Exactly. We don't hear 2 bass sounds from 2 cabs run together, just one. The cab nearest to our ears may predominate if we're very close, otherwise they just blend together. As for the audience, they're not exactly going to notice a difference!
See, I'd dispute that as otherwise why have 2 cabs... ? I have enough power in the bottom cab to run on its own but I choose not to and I'll stand 4-5 mtrs away at times. Why have different speakers and configs if you can't hear the difference and a stage sound is what you play to... the audience doesn't matter from your POV if you are running FOH.
 10.
With a 2x10 and 1x15 it's hard to predict what that difference would be with either cab on top, so suck-it-and-see is as valid an approach as any. If neither cab has a tweeter and they're both receiving a full-range signal, I would listen to it both ways, and if there's no major difference then it comes down to stability and aesthetics. The idea that the 2x10" must go on top comes from the old "10s for the highs, 15s for the lows" dictum, which has been done to death on here.
It has but it is a truism for a reason... MY 212 will have to go on the bottom as it sounds massively different from the 210 I pair it with. I sold a 115 it has no place in my tone goals. We have ears, we know what we hear and know what we need.
 11.
The question is does a 1x15 on top of a 2x10 sound different from a 2x10 on top of a 1x15, not whether a 1x15 sounds different from a 2x10...
yep..
 12.
I just thought it bizarre that on pages 1, 2 and 3 they extolling the virtue and importance of music education, then page 4 they basically state what they think by mentioning the decreasing budgets.
They may well be ...but they are directed to cut from above. And in these fraught times, I'd hardly expect Arts to get off scot-free. I doubt the NHS can realistically expect to be ring-fenced for the lenght of the next parliament either so I don't think anyone can make a case for exclusion..??
 13.
...and it's a huge improvement on this
I like the direction they are going with that signature bass but it is still a fail, IMO.
 14.
Is that kind of snarkiness really necessary? It doesn't make the forum look great...
In this case, it probably is, I'm afraid. I didn't point to a specific post in the first instance.
 15.
Nah. I've got exactly that combination. I've tried both and can't tell the difference. I put the prettiest one on top.
Says it all, IMO.
 16. 210 on top. Very concerned if you can't hear the difference between the two cabs..
 17. Not the first time this sort of post has appeared here regarding GAKS service so good on them
 18.
When the gig is going well I really don't care that much about the tone, the nut width, the handles falling off, the music stand etc etc, I've had some of my most enjoyable musical experiences with my cheapest bass and using the house bass amp for example. How about double bass for a new challenge?
I draw the line at handles..otherwise I'm cool with everything else..
 19. Maybe it's just me, but most basses I look at wouldn't inspire me to pick them up.... People bring a few basses around and I just think 'NO'.. That is all relative etc etc .... but I think you need to have empathy even with the tools you use..??
 20. Ramping up for a big show is something a lot of bands can't do... or even really care about. Entertaining a 1000 people that are there pretty much for your spot is not easy and a pub set will not really do it...nor will pub banter. Nobody is going to pay £10 a ticket for the same act they can see in the pub for free... and unfortunately, bands see the gig and the money before the obligation of being up to it.. Also, tho... the bookers don't always get it either,
 21. Yep, if you feel like that, sell the lot and get something you'll cherish and want to play
 22. Steve Lukather posted as well. If it is the illness I think it was... horrible...
 23. Yes, sad....
 24. I've weighed it all up... I'll be on the gig, and I've made contacts plus I'm running all cabs within a properly specc'ed P.A so I am thinking the rig becomes just a bass monitor and it is more than man enough for that. I'm pretty sure they wont be able to use anything like the volume of tap if they want to control the stage sound so I'm happy and think I've covered the bases as it were...
 25. Cool looking bass...
