1. That link lists 643 listings! I assume you mean http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vintage-Fender-Squir...=item3efb2d4aaa which looks genuine to me. There is a thread running on it already. A higher end starting price but these are good. Unless you mean another bass?
2.
Go into ANY working men's clubs, look at the posters, and DO'NT do anything like that.
Also for live shots just bear in mind the background. I've got some great shots with the Gents or a fire extinguisher in the background. Fine if they can be easily photoshopped out but otherwise you look amateur.
3. resprays are tricky jobs & therefore not cheap. I reckon you are looking at a minimum of £200. It's not worth skimping on a respray. A link I got from Basschat which came highly recommended http://www.simscustom.com/html/links.htm
4. Not sure if it's just me but this page took a couple of minutes to display those pictures! I think it'll be an improvement though with that Jazz bass
5. For me it has to be a live shot. There is nothing worse than a musician walking through a field with an electric instrument. Bass is what you do (we do!) and a well taken live shot says it all. It can be posed and yet look natural. I agree with Rayman too. I think being funny can be a bit dangerous as it relies on your audience to all have the same sense of humour as you... and that may not be the case.
6.
Also does a tribute have to look like the band in question? It's always struck me as being a bit sad, trying to ACTUALLY look like a famous artist... Any thoughts? My current covers band is heading in a direction I don't particularly like.
I think a tribute act should look similar to the act they are a tribute to, a covers band is different. I don't suppose it really matters but if I knew a tribute act was playing I would expect more than just the songs. If it was a covers band down the local pub then it doesn't matter. If you were to do songs in that style and incorporate other similar acts then it wouldn't matter. That's just how I read things at least.
7. I see your pairs and raise you 2 pair! One strung with flats, one strung with nylons, one strung with roundwounds and another one shamefully strung again with roundwounds (thus blowing any pathetic theory that I need to have 4!)
8.
Ashdown probably think that their target market would be impressed by that kind of thing
I think you are probably right
9. I don't find the name offensive but it is a little unnecessary. It's like they are trying to be really rock n roll because they swear. I'd just be a bit embarassed to play one. Not that I feel really strongly about it but just my two cents
10. Bassassin is the one who'll know & I reckon he'll tell you everything next time he logs in, probably later on today
11. It will probably be good though. I think he has set the price at about the top rate though so it won't be a massive bidding war. I've owned a couple of Squiers from the 88-89 which have been great.
12. I think he's generally well rated and highly regarded. I saw him with OCS many years ago in Oxford and he was good. I don't really listen to them but I was suitably impressed with that show
13. I think there are genuine examples of unwanted gifts and certainly examples of GAS - I am amazed at the sheer volume of gear that is sold on (here even) which is a few weeks or months old and has seen little more than home use. However I think when dealing with anything other than a face to face meeting it is always best to proceed with a bit of caution
14. Yes. http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product.asp?id=9818 I wasn't that impressed when I tried one but I have friends who rated them. Perhaps the one I tried was a duff one?

16.
Windows has never been anything but "rubbish" in my experience, they have always been unpleasent, especially the guy who looks like Neil from the young ones who stands the wrong way round at the counter facing the wall eating seeds....
I used to go there as a kid in the mid to late 80s and I don't remember him. I used to flick through the vinyl downstairs and then go through to the instruments section. The shops in Swindon always seemed to have more of an attitude.
17. I got excited today when I saw the classic James Jamerson cover but the excitement quickly disappeared as I realised I could almost feel my fingerprints through the entire magazine. It was almost too flimsy to flick through and at £4.25 a pop that just isn't cricket. With NancyJohnson's observation of ads to editorial this really is outrageous. I know Bassist used to cover people like Guigsy from Oasis but I thought it always had a great balance of artists and reviews.
18. Please don't tell me Windows is rubbish now - I bought my first Squier there in the 80s and used to love going there.
19. Thanks Chris - I'd thought it'd be about £250+ so that could be manageable. I'd want a block colour ala philw's original post
20.
Erm, I hope that isn't showing the strings off in their best light. As IMHO that didn't sound very good to me. As you mention, a bit rubbish. But it didn't sound like a double bass to me. And I'm not sure I like the sound that bass makes.
It is a horrible clip (which I guess helps explain why nobody has picked up on it). On my P-bass it sounds much more double bass like. I don't particularly care for his playing style (personal taste) but it was the only video I could find. I got into Rotosound Trubass strings from the recommendation of a friend I really rate as a player. Bar simply adjusting your tone, it's a cheaper option then buying a new bass, if you wish to experiment
21. Has anyone got a rough ballpark figure for Martin Sims to do a respray on a P-bass? Sorry to highjack Phil (although I'm sure you are interested too) but I'm in a similar position.
22. Everyone here seems to rave about Wizard & if I'd have known earlier than I would have checked them out. Personally I swear by Seymour Duncan. I use the Antiquity range or SPB1s. If you want more growl I'd suggest an SPB3 from the Seymour Duncan range.
23. I agree the problem is more to do with the EQ then the string gauge. You could try a hybrid gauge so you aren't making the E and A thicker but you thicken up the D and G - however your solution lies in the EQ. I mainly play fingerstyle but do use a pick sometimes and do play with flatwounds. I like the sound. There was a thread this week about Mike Mills of REM having a great tone using a pick with flatwounds. So yeah, you can do - I guess it depends how you play. I probably favour 70/30 towards fingerstyle but the pick on flatwounds still gets me the desired tone I want.
