1. Down to 4 now and trying to get down to 3. 99.9% of my gigs, I use my Mex FSR P Bass Special Deluxe Series. Amazing passive P/J that just plays and sounds
2. Love these amps. You have to REALLY try to get a poor sound out of these Great, simple, powerful amps.
3.
With typical gain staging half way on many amps and with many basses equates to full power on louder notes. Plenty of amps have the gain stages set so that they reach full power well before noon with typical input signals, because people assume that if an amp is as loud with the master volume at 10 o'clock as another amp with the master at 2 o'clock, then the first amp must be more powerful. Sadly it isn't but it sells amps in shops and means we end up with lots of amps on the market where the second half of knob rotation is worthless as you're already at full power by then.
So which amps are "guilty" of this then?
4. Think we've all sold a daft one we regret Dunc (1977 Telecaster bass, Sonic Blue for £400 ). We are at The Millstone in Darwen Sat Jan 23rd. There's a link to BBGM and Troyen websites at bottom of all of my posts (shameless plug ).
5. 1996 to 2003 series of American Standards are vastly under rated basses, as are the 2003-2008 basses. Great players (or at least every one I've played has been). GLWTS, somebody will get a great gigging tool.
6.
If you'd had a way of measuring how much power you'd actually used on your gigs, I'd put a fair amount of money on you having used almost all the power fairly often, and definitely used every last watt a good few times - bass guitar is an extremely dynamic and power hungry instrument.
You know best. As a Luddite the only point of reference I have is how far I turn the two volume knob thingy's around. NEVER more than half way on gain or master, rarely that far. Against two noisy Blackstar' d gits and a mic'd up Lurch on drums.
7. PITA. I always gently explain to anybody who wants to use y gear, that they aren't insured to use it. If they persist, they are told they can use it if they sign my form and make a refundable deposit of £500 cash. Get a bit of abuse, but they only pester me once. Give the gig up, just looking for grief going back imo.
8. As wonderful as these basses are, they have the limitations inherant in the original design. Whenever I've had one of these kind of basses with 2 saddle bridge and single coil, I've replaced the bridge with one of the £50 Fender Deluxe string through bridges. Same 3 screw placement. Just makes the whole pick up/intonation/string height balancing job so much easier. ALWAYS keeping the original bridge of course. Good luck, lovely bass,
9. Very pretty but thankfully far too complicated for me. And to be honest, most amps I've had above 500 watts (as per manufacturers claims) have hardly been turned on. Any big gigs, foh/monitors, normal (even the biggest) pub gigs, think I've got enough.
10. I saw this bass on Tuesday night at Dunc's and it's a belter. So, great bass, great bloke, watchya waiting for
11. Cheers Dunc. For me, this one is a better bass to play simply because of the smaller neck dimensions. It really is a very good ( but gig worn) American Precision. Enjoy the RW and hopefully see you at The Millstone in Darwen
12. One thing is guaranteed with Beedster. That is great gear and great prices. Two things are guaranteed with Beedster. They are great gear, great prices and great services . Amongst the things guaranteed with Beedster are....................... The older folk may grasp the above Good luck with the sales and the studio Chris, some fabulous stuff there .
13. Flawless, very pleasant experience with a guy who just can't do enough for you. Also a bit of a packing genius . Gareth it was an absolute please, thanks so much. Fully recommended by Hermann Munster's stunt double , just so easy.
14. PM's replied thanks. Sale preferred although may consider a Jazz. Surprised there isn't a bit more interest, a great coloured American Standard, made to look a bit like a Japanese Steve Harris signature. Weighs less than the sig, has a normal P nut width rather than the sig's 1.75 inch, graphite neck strengthening unlike the sig. And cheaper than the last 3 Japanese sigs have sold for.
15. Darren, I've shared this on the Yamaha Attitude Facebook page as there are a lot of Billy Sheehan fans on there, and the man is a big fan of these. Just in case you get mail from somebody not on BC. Good luck, Karl.
16. Fabulous basses. Despite my newly imposed embargo on buying basses, I would be blagging a trip to mumsy's in Darlo if this had been a maple board. Vastly under rated as a gigging bass. By the way, try Parcelhero via their UPS service. Delivered with £500 insurance is around £22. GLWTS, lovely.
17. Truth time. I allowed £700 for this against a Rick a few months back, when these basses were selling, in hours, at that sort of price. Anybody remember the Volkswagen advert " he moved into gold the day the smart money moved out" Anyway, this splendid bass is now with her new fleet fingered master "itsmedunc" a lovely geezer of the highest water. Enjoy Dunc and thanks for all the interest folks, cheers, Karl.
18. What a lovely bloke. Fair to say we could have talked bass and amps (STOP looking at amps Dunc ) all night, ably assisted by Fender, Gibson and Dexter Seriously though, top class guy, another great ambassador for BC. Hugely recommended. Many thanks Dunc for making it so easy, speak soon fella.
19. Classic
20. Tomorrow or Wednesday Ian. Who'se going to be the 1st with the Basil picture then
21. Ian, that TecAmp PUMA 900 you have. Is it German ?
22. Spookily enough Ian, there are three folk frantically having chats with other halves Are you lot all Yorkshiremen
23. Heartbreaking to lose so much on this,REDUCED my lovely Fiesta Red 50's Road Worn series Precision, to £550 collected (or meet within 30 miles of Wigan) or sort/pay for your own INSURED courier Reduced until either this one sells, or my American Standard ('Arry tribute). Preferably this one. I can't think of a bass that took me this long to sell I think it's an extremely good price now, and looking at the comments in the thread, there's about another 8 folks singing the praises of this model. Cheers.
24. Specs were 64 Jazz bass. Sea foam green, matching headstock, 60's pup positions, alder body, maple neck, rosewood board, vintage style bridge. Nobody but Mark knows exactly where the components come from, but everybody who has had a Limelight made for them seems to be pretty much in agreement that it all comes together very nicely. There is a similar Fender Custom Shop Jazz in Thomann, Sea Foam Green, light relic, matching headstock. It's just over £2900. Why did I sell? Because I got the fretboard in rosewood, vintage correct. I don't get on with rosewood. The only conclusion that can be made is that I'm stupid This is a truly wonderful bass in so many ways.
25. Thanks cocco, she is. Tom, this model was only done in LPB in 1998, so, given Fender's accuracy with serial numbers................... there is an outside chance this is LPB. However, in some lights there is a tiny bit of sparkle running through the finish, so I'm convinced it's Aqua Marine. It really does appear massively different at times, especially under stage lighting. For example pics 2 and 3 were taken within 30 seconds of each other, the bass didn't move, I did. Anyway, Fender spec http://www.cnjradio....0192200APg3.pdf
