3. thankyou very much, will be putting it in the cab tonight!
4. very nice stuff, really catchy riff and some neat slap skills! can't help you with any of the problems though..
5.
I'll just pop this up as I put it all together last night and played it this evening rather large sounding
certainly LOOKS big, but only two 10" speakers? ..... weak.....
6. i'm interested in this thankyouplease! shame i didn't see this yesterday, i was in bristol!
7. the attention to detail on that is simply fascinating! would love to see it in the timbre!
8. '03 Vauxhall Vivaro 1.9CDi, 5 seats (rear two on quick-release), tailgate (means your stuff doesn't get wet loading in the rain). superb band van. takes 5 musos, PA (2 speakers and combo mixer/amp), Drums (all cased), Bass stuff (amp, cab, bass, bag of bits), Guitar stuff (combo amp, flightcased pedalboard, guitar) percussion (djembe's, bongos, stands and box of bits) and decks (flightcased) with comfortable space for all people, and it's not even a long wheel base!# 6 speed gearbox means comfortable driving and good fuel economy (up to 700 miles on an £85 tank, don't know MPG's), air conditioning (useful when we go abroad ) and a comfortable ride makes this feel more like an MPV than a van. the only downside is it's not built as sturdily as the likes of transits and transporters. but i don't abuse it so that doesn't matter!
9. i'd say trem over fan, just because it will be more fun. as for the wood combo conundrum, this is part of what the luthier is there for. sit down with them and talk about what you from looks/sound/feel. if they're a good luthier (i'm not familiar with JCBasses) then they will know what to do.
10. can't believe i missed this...
11. yep i can see this is a bargain! but moneys unusually tight at the moment. gutted. good luck though!
12. that looks familiar, maby featured in BigRedX's weird and wonderfull thread? good price too
13.
Love it - kinda like a bass version of Albert Lee's Musicman signature guitar?
hence Big Al?
14. yum yum yum!
15. can't see anything, says 'page not responding'
16. .... i like it....
17. and the extra £120 for the footswitch doesn't make me want to jump at it either..
18. very nice. will be interesting to see how you think it performs with the hartke
19. tried the AKG down the tailpiece today (couldn't find my PG48..), it certainly works. though feedback does kick in exceptionally early. hopefully the PG and/or better padding, eqing, setup etc. will give me a good enough sound. and if TPJ's exceedingly generous offer works, it should work out to sound pretty good!
20. that looks very, very nice!
21. all i know about thomann is my friend ordered a bass from them. they sent the wrong one. he told them. they sent the right one. friend had 2 basses for the price of one..
22. it's you the music scene is not crap, it's thriving. there are just as many exciting bands about now as there ever were. music is being pushed and innovated the same rate as ever. yes the commercial scene is growing, but thats because commercial music is what people WANT. i know it's hard for people who are into REAL music to understand, but for the vast majority of people music is just something they want in the backround, or a simple 'doop-de-doo' melody with predictable, easy to remember lyrics to sing along to. and these are the people who go out and buy singles, and who listen to radio 1. which means this is the pap that is fed down our throats all day on TV and Radio. but it doesn't mean thats all thats out there. if you need some inspiration: Jehst or Dr Syntax - forerunners of UK hip-hop, modern poetry to some of the freshest beats being produced by REAL people. Ed Solo & Skool of Thought - proving that electronic dance music is much MUCH more than dull, repetitive thuds for drugged up twats Jamie Lidell - REAL pop Soil & Pimp Sessions - Still pushing jazz Flight of the Conchords - comedy music at it's finest Jazzsteppa - big band dubstep, ultimate power music! Bjork - needs no description Plus-Tech Squeeze Box - Japanese craziness at it's absolute finest Murray Lachlan Young - Spoken word. funny, witty, thought provoking. does a lot of literacy work with children too Donavon Frankenreiter - Surf pop by a pro surfer, with a moustache Joanna Newsom - harp and voice. compelling and utterly moving Youngblood Brass Band - modern brass band who not only know their roots, but use them Easy Star All Stars - Dub/Reggae re-workers of classic albums Mr Scruff - DJ and all round 'nice man'. Brings a 'nice tea' stall to festivals he plays The New Master Sounds - Classic jazz funk with modern twists
23. when i started on my artisan EUB i used normal 4 finger (EB) approach. but i've just started working on a 'proper' upright for an upcoming show and have found myself switching to the 3 finger. one thing i've noticed when using 4 fingers is that your constantly stretched to fingers become tired VERY quickly, and intonation is a lot trickier. also when using 4, i've found myself holding the neck like an EB (ie, with the thumb pressed against the back of the neck), which again wears out your hand because an upright neck is just too thick for this. when using 3 finger approach your thumb wraps round the neck making everything much much easier. i tried for a long time to stick with the 4 finger approach, but it just aint right.
24. going to play around with the mike-down-tailpiece thing tonight with a PG48 and an akg and see how things go. will either be back to thank you for your advice, or ask for more!
