1. indeed, and it was a b'stock cab so it was cheap to begin with. pretty chuffed with the outcome to be honest
2.
I hope you didn't have to pay for the replacement.
not a penny! though i did have a bit of a 'mare getting the old speaker out as the screws holding it in had spanner heads as opposed to screwdriver. and i didn't have any spanners...
3. Well, the problem is now sorted! The replacement driver arrived yesterday, and taking the old driver out reveiled the problem, behold: i can only assum a small part came unstuck, and then over time speaker movement tore the rest, which would certainly explain why the problem built up slowly. And on comparing the drivers i noticed the newer one was much more extensively glued: So maby i'm not the first one to have this problem? and finally, after removing the defective dust cap, i now have a spare 12" neodynium speaker, anyone got an empty 1x12 cab they want to give me?
4. i don't care how much it helps, i wont be doing that on stage..
5. I never usually say this, but i think the scratchplate should stay on. Looks much better
6. i've used 130's at times, can't remember wether they were flatwounds or not, but shouldn't make a difference. string guages are not something i seem to be able to commit to memory, don't even know what guage are on now...
7. there was quite a surge of popularity with these a few years ago on an old incarnation of this forum. quite a few members had them, though not sure how many are still around. a quick search of 'flite' in the forums shows that a 1x15 sold at the start of february (sorry) and a 4x10 last year. i'm sure i saw some photos of some in the 'show us your amps' thread too.
8. i've used quite a few sets of flatwounds on my Shuker, which i believe has the same monorail bridges as the BTB and i've never had trouble with fitting.
9. good to hear progress is being made again, sorry to hear you'll need to re-fret. though as you say, will be a usefull skill to master! any more pics?
10. I must buy, but can't!
11. looks like they've airbrushed out the headstock. the standard bridge with no sign of a tuning mechanism only increases my suspicion... though i think does show that a headless jazz would look super!
12.
Easy, buy / build your 2x12 then buy one of these http://www.bkelec.com/HiFi/ClassD/ClassD.htm .
yep, i'm afraid that unit is not longer made.. if it was, i'd own several..
13. my heart skipped a beat when i read the thread title! how much are you looking at?
14. With custom basses, the relationship between customer and luthier is important in getting things right. have a chat to Jon and Martin and see who's more on your level.
15. i spent 6 months last year pulling my hair out trying to create an active 2x12... if you have the means to make one as short term option i'd say go for it!
16. if it's something special then i would personally advise against a fret job. but of course it's not mine, it's yours. so its up to you at the end of the day fretless (especially un-lined) can take a while to get used to, so i'd give a while before making a final decision.
17. "This would make a lovely Bass." so you don't think it's a bass if it hasn't got frets? if you don't mind saying, how much did you get it for? if it was a bargain, i wouldn't advise fretting it, you might regret it
18. my initial thought was that personally i'd find the big body, the narrow neck and lack of a headstock a bit out of proportion. however, looking at that mock-up, i think it looks quite groovy
19. same here
20. just like warwickhunt i love singlecuts. and think that estate cars look much, much better than saloons! The Audi A4 Avant, Volvo V40 and Subaru Impreza estate are 3 of the best looking cars around!
21. there is a thread somewhere with a poll asking this. if you can find it (i don't have the time to look), that would provide pretty compelling evidence that it's not just you
22. even in the relatively small listing photo's the bass looks very 'chunky'. i like the look of chunky, dunno if i could live with it though.
23. just found this on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Spear-S-2-5-String-B...A1%7C240%3A1318 certainly looks the part, anyone tried/got one?
24. add to the torture of those of us who aren't able to get this and post pics up
25.
I have one of these up in the for sale forums
oohh! i missed that!! pm'd
