1. Shuker killed my GAS. Ended up getting rid of all my other basses and have not looked at another for 10 years now!
2. Fantastic work there! One question though, where does the 3rd battery go?
3. Also: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...l=shuker+artist http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...l=shuker+artist
4. Yes Loverly instruments.
5. Username and avatar tattoo'd on your forehead? But then if you ever changed your avatar....
6. 50 quid for a plywood body?? Wish I'd kept my Encore now... o,0
7. Jon made the pickup covers on mine so i'm sure he can do it for you! I have Seymour Duncan pikups in my bass, a MM type and a 1/4 pounder jazz. The plasic surround of the jazz came off, but it doesn't on the MM pickup and so the wooden cover had to go around that. Making for a very large lump of wood. Good thing thats what i wanted! But in both cases the route had to be bigger than normal, so there will likely need to be some with you too. Might as well let Jon do it!
8. I have an Eden WT550 and 2x15 cab. I think it's the best of both worlds? The WT550 is by a long margin the most impressive head I've had the pleasure of using. More power than you'll need, best sounding and most versatile preamp i've used, small, 2ohm capable, and as light as is needed. The 2x15 is a freakin monster, huge sound (obviously..) but with as much punch and top end clarity as other, smaller cabs i've owned (schroeder, glock, eden 2x10). Easily moved around thanks to built in tilt-back casters. But amazingly light considering what it is! Easy to lift on your own (though it's size makes moving around once you've picked it up tricky..) and a breeze with 2 people. Also, it fits in my Nissan Micra! Deffinitely the best of both worlds!
9.
So last night the DJ didnt save your life....
*groan* yes... that was the joke...
10. Not if the pa was set up properly. Though (poor) DJ's have a habit of trying to improve the sound by pushing gains and eq's until eventually everythings maxed out. If you set things up and then they did this preamp channels would be clipping, and likely power amps too. If you weren't keeping an eye on the desk and this happened I guess damage could be done, even more likely if the amps were on full power already.
11. As stated, things can get messy when people start saying what they contribute to the group, and what it's worth. If your a function band then i guess it's all done with letters and contracts? If so, maby having a band fee + administrative fee would be more effective?
12.
Unfortunately, most new laptops don't have express card slots either.
Really? I suppose the more expandable/upgradable things are, the less often people need new ones... I've been following this thread as i have a Phonic Helix mixing desk that has a firewire I/O with 18 sends, would love to record a band night, but have each channel recorded individually to help with mixing. But my laptop doesn't have a firewire input.. Gonna try Oldg's suggestion. Didn't know such a thing existed, and for 20 quid it's gotta be worth a punt! As for you, if you don't have an express card slot, then it looks like you're left with just 2 options. New laptop, or a USB interface
13. Shame he danced around the fact it's an Overwater built by Tanglewood. Hope whoever bought it doesn't think they're getting the real deal. Even so, looks like a helluva lotta bass for the money!
14. For more balance, my first combo was a Commando 15. Sound was good on it's own, but i found it was totally lost in a band setting. Got a Peavey 115 after that, found it miles better in a gigging situation.
15. I've got the Red5's too. Good set of mikes, amazing for the price! Though i do find the snare/tom mikes a bit on the big side, and usually end up putting them underneath the drums to keep people from tripping over them when playing.
16.
I'm not really worried about it staying in perfect nick, don't mind a few dings here and there as it add character. More concerned about a broken neck/headstock, something like that. Or it being stolen or having a drink spilled on it
If you play gigs with no stages (ie, pubs), then the drink thing is a possibility, but easily avoided if you follow some tips in this thread (ie, use the guitarist as a shield! ). All the rest would be VERY unlikely unless you were particularly careless. Keeping it in it's case when not soundchecking/playing and saying 'sorry, i'm a bit protective of my bass' to greasy teenagers should ensure a safe and happy gig with the bass
17.
If youre not going to gig it,whats the point of having it ?
hmm.. ... Anyway. My most coveted possesion is also my bass. I made the descision quite early on though that i wasn't going to shy it away or be protective of it. I let strangers in other bands play it for their set. I play it in rowdy pubs where large drunkards are constantly falling into you etc etc. But as a result it does have battle scars and even a crack in the quilt maple top above the control cavity. So i can totally sympathise with why someone would want to leave their pride and joy at home. If you would prefer your bass to stay in tip top condition, and wouldn't be able to enjoy a gig as much if you were constantly worry about your bass. Then leaving it at home is a no-brainer. Just because it doesn't make sense to someone else doesn't mean you should have anything to feel guilty about. It's your bass, your choice!
18. Big big tune. Haven't heard it for a while so thanks for sharing!

Bolin NS5
Hi Owen, I've watched this being bought and sold over the last few years, always trying to justify buying it myself....
Me too. Thankfully this time around i have so little money i can't torture myself over the possibility of snagging it!
20.
He did, I do, it is. Makes your eyeballs rattle.
Yay! Glad your still loving it! And yes, it's true about the eyeballs
21. Mine will never be going anywhere for sooo many reasons! 1. It's the first thing i bought with money from my first full time job at 17. 2. It's something i spent 2 years designing. 3. You could never get anything remotely close to the quality of this thing for the price i paid for it. 4. It's the sexiest bass in the whole wide world, and looks even better when someones playing it. 5. It fits my body perfectly, never played another bass that fits as well. 6. It's super light. 7. It's super strong. 8. The base tone is awesome, i often play it in passive mode, and last week had to play into the effects return of an amp. Still a tone to die for! 9. The pickups and electronics are (semi)custom, and the range of sounds is as much as i'll ever need! I play in Reggae, funk, swing, jazz, metal and hip-hop groups and always get the respective 'heads' from each genre telling me my tone is 'up there'! 10. It's the only gigging bass i have. 11. I've had the bass for 7 years now, and i don't nanny it like a precious vase. So it's well battered round the edges. Even if i was offered double what i paid for it, i would still turn it down. The thought of selling it for less is just laughable! Could think of a load more reasons, but i should probably get back to work
22. Had the 2x12 cab. Freakin awesome bit of kit! Now in the hands of SteveSoar, who said it was the best 2x12 he'd heard. So pretty good methinks!
23. Nothing at all? I though Jon usually got in touch when the neck was being carved so the customer could come down and check it's how they want it? Have you tried getting in touch from your end?

Live Sound
Interesting. I've always assumed that the on-stage sound will never be as good as FOH and that the monitors should really be set-up so that each performer can hear enough of the rest of the band to be able to play their part - not to give the same sort of quality mix as the FOH, which the sound guy then mixes to give the audience the best possible sound. Thus the band members instruct the sound guy to give them the monitor mix they want, but the FOH sound is his responsibility alone. Or am I missing something here?
Completely agree. Also agree with jonsmith, I always tell the soundman the bass sound i'm trying to achieve. ie, nice bit of rumble, focuss on the mids and cut treble. Because it's not the usual bass mix soundmen go for. Or even better, when he's up on the stage, show him your bass sound through your rig, much more effective than trying to describe a sound!
25. Now i don't agree with the '15s are slow' agrument. But 'and 18, for clarity' ?!?! I guess the point he's trying to make is. You never know what idiot is going to plug their bass in, so make sure the rig can take abuse. But his idea of an 18 and 4x10 being the main factors in that is hilarious!
