1. I think the bass player needs to know what everyone else in the band is doing, where for the guitar it is the other way round.... everyone else has to know what the guitarist is doing.
2. I usually get ignored when I suggest Laney RB9's in 'which head for a first head' threads in favour of someone who says peavey or hartke. I have tried the hartke LH head and to my ears I much prefer the Laney. It's a head that is capable of just putting out what you put in or if you use the EQ right, absolutly transforming your tone. EDIT: Here is what a local reviewer had to say about my tone on my band's new EP "The deliciously produced bass sound has both the snapping tanginess and the warm smarminess needed for the different dynamics of the song.". I used the RB9 when recording it
3. More chance of getting a buyer if you have pics.
4. Cheers jerry, might have to try one out sometime soon!
5.
Such a needless, moronic thread to start.
Well said.
6. Apart from the obvious what are the main differences between fretted and fretless basses? What kinds of music suit them best? Are they more common active or passive? Is the action harder/easier to adjust? Is there a fretless version of fret buzz? Appologies for 1000 questions.
7. Seems I've come onto Carchat by mistake..... (I wish I could have said something witty!)
8. It won't let me see the other 24! Edit: I'm braindead, just worked it out.
9. Where is alex claber when you need him!?
10. Flea - Chili Peppers - got me into bass by making it sound interesting/cool! Ross McNae - Twin Atlantic - Plays really clever lines without making it sound too busy/failing to hold down the low end John Deacon - Queen - Needs no explanation

12.
Yes '92 is a vintage year
It's more vintage than I am!
13. If I could only play a pointy bass I'd pick the pointyest one and throw myself on it! I'd miss the fender-inspired shapes I'm used to.
14. My bass is active with HS pickup configuration, the single coil has so much more high-end than the humbucker I can't really switch between them in a set without changing the EQ on my amp. EQ'd right though both can sound fantastic for different tones, keyword - versitality
15.
I've also gone lightweight recently. I cut down to this
If that is your rig who do you play for/what kind of venues?
16. I say it every time one of these threads come up.... LANEY RB9!
17.
Sterling? Very Touchy
Genius
18. I am quite jelous, although I have a modern squier P with upgraded pickups... surprisingly good sound!
19. We practice in a barn at the drummers house, so whenever we feel like it

He posted helpful and amusing answers on a few of my whingy 'what bass is better' threads. He was one of the best things about basschat. Will be sorely missed.
23. I picked up the 4x10 second hand for £30! Didn't find out it was harley benton until recently, absolute bargain. It goes loud and gives a decent (not as good as my ashdowns) representation of what you dial into your head. What do you want to use it for?
24. I bought a new Laney RB9 head and managed to find a second hand, unnamed 4x10 cab for £30! I tried it out and it sounded really good, so now i have a huge rig that works great live and really gets a good tone.
