  1. Do you not miss having a seven band graphic though? I find it so useful!
  2. Is portability the main reason people like amps like the Little Mark and the Tc RH450? Or do they sound different to larger heads (mine is big!)
  3. going to wait and have a go on one of the new vm jazzes before making up my mind actually
  4. I didn't get a chance to try out both basses, but the shop assistant told me that he had a vm but had a cv on order because he felt the vm was too bright and the build quality on the cv was better. After playing the cv I have to say I am very impressed, it plays just like you would expect a jazz to and the neck is so fast! I was dishing out the triplets at a breakneck speed! I think I have been convinced.
  5. I'm off to Red Dog Music in town tomorrow to check out these basses and also the squier deluxe jazz, I'll report back when I have first hand experience.

    Studio Diary

I ran out of words on the last post, so I will continue here. After lunch it was time for singing which Jake again got through very very quickly, there was a section of todays song with a sort of group vocal, so all five of us (4 band members and David, the manager) crowded round the microphone and had a singalong. After this Fin and Mark worked on mastering the drums and Me, Jake, Euan and David started discussing promotion for the EP. We planned our launch show and decided on the support act 'victim of a hero'. David was looking into getting band merch, T-shirts, Badges, Keyrings and the like so we discussed designs for these items and got really excited about our big plans! After a play-through of the (almost) finished song we left the studio with high hopes. It already sounds miles better than any recording I have done before and so far it has been a reasonably pain-free process. I'll leave you eagerly awaiting the next update!

    Studio Diary

Hello Basschatters, I thought you might enjoy reading about my experience recording the new EP with my band Hold the Suspect. A bit of background on the band, we started a few years ago and we recorded an ep a year and a half ago. Safe to say the songs were of a poor quality and the recordings were not much better. We are now back and going to a better studio with dreams of a better sound and (hopefully) better songs. So the day began, very early, in our rehersal room in Fin's (our drummer) barn. We packed up all the gear and Euan (guitar) arrived with the van. After almost crushing my ashdown cabs with the bass drum we finally managed to fit our unholy amount of garbage in the back of the van and set off for the studio. Upon our arrival we struggled to get parked and had to carry all our stuff up a flight of stairs to reach the (very nice) home studio belonging to the producer, Mark. The day began with guide guitar swiftly followed by drums (fin was on form, needing only two takes to nail the whole song) It was then my turn to set up and record. I assembled my usual rig (Laney RB9 into Ashdown cabs) which was then mic'd up but Mark also ran a DI out of my clean, unnafected signal, through the Ampeg Amplitube plugin. After settling on a suitibly collosal sound I took a couple of takes to get it perfect, but there was four notes right at the end of the song that Fin wanted me to play in a timing that my simple brain just couldn't understand! So he made me show him the notes and he played the bass instead of me! It was safe to say I was gutted. I went to read my book while Jake (guitar/vocals) and Euan sorted out and recorded their guitar parts. We took a break for a lunch of KFC and cake lovingly baked by Fins sister
  8. Does anyone know what style of neck it has? J or P?
  9. I was once given a 'legacy' bass? I think it was from indionesia, worlds highest action, worlds biggest neck and worlds oldest strings! Sounded quite good plugged in though, despite the fact it was impossible to play.
  10. Yeah, What is the difference between the pickup positioning then? How does it change the sound?
  11. Hi everyone, I know a thread about these basses comes up every other day but I am wondering what the major differences between the two basses (classic vibe jazz and vintage modified jazz) are. I know one is a 60's and one is a 70's and that the VM has maple neck where the CV has rosewood. Obviously I would try before I buy but I am looking for the key features of each and what makes them different apart from the finish and neck. Thanks, Alli.
  12. OTPJ, I never would have had you down as a fall out boy fan?
  13. I switch between a microKORG XL and my electric bass when one of my bands does dance/rock crossover stuff, usually synth bass for the dancey verse electric for the rocky chorus and it works really well!
  14. Such a great bass player, 'Killer Queen' has one of the busyest but still subtle bass parts ever! As for not rejoining queen, he spoke out about when Brian and Roger did 'We are the Champions' with Robbie Williams saying something along the lines of 'They cant replace Freddie' and that he didn't think Robbie did a very good job of the song. So I think he feels the real Queen is only with the four of them and not with a guest vocalist, obviously the Freddie tribute concert was an exception.
  15. Amazing! One of my favourite bands, Tubelord, are on Hassle too! Good job!
  16. Bloody livingston, it's getting everywhere!
  17. Tim Commerford, the first Rage against the machine album has one of the nicest slap tones imaginable!
  18. whats wrong with calling it a bass? simples!
  19. I'm dying on getting one aswell, just need to find £300 somewhere :/

I've just got a new 4x10 cab with a tweeter but I've read online that using distortion on a cab with a tweeter can damage it because of the high frequencies. I'm just wondering if this is true and to what extent the distortion damages it. Thanks, Alli
  22. DAMN! Still haven't gotten around to playing the origional CV jazz and now I want the new one!
  23. It's a great shop, the edinburgh one is too. But the edinburgh repair guy doesn't know what he is doing! I was getting a pot replaced, he put in one with the wrong value and payed no attention to how he wired it, and charged me £30 for the pleasure! I ended up buying in the correct part and soldering it in myself, works perfectly! If I can do it with very little expericence I don't see how a professional tech can bet let off with the mistake!
