Gaaaah theres just too many to choose from!
I'm finding more and more possibilites like Epiphones and Fenders and stuff and its all very confusing haha.
I would've loved a Fleabass, cause Flea is awesome and they look great, but they're just too expensive for a beginner IMO.
Also, whats the difference between active and passive?
If you want to sound/look like flea pay a bit more and get something from Cort's GB series, alot of bass for the money and the tone from the musicman pickup is pretty much the bssm sound (even though he played warwick on bssm) if you crack the treble up and pluck HARD!
Active basses have an internal preamp which basicly means you can get lots of tonal options from it because you can do alot of eqing before the sound even leaves the bass, the downside to this is the preamp runs on a 9V battery (or sometimes 2).
Passive basses don't have a preamp and usually just have one tone control, but they don't need a battery.
Flea exclusivly used active basses up until the fleabass was released, but i reckon he'll return to active basses before long.
