1. I would go for any of them and get it refinished. The current colours available on the US standard are very drab and uninspired IMHO. Fancy names won't fool me! As for the neck, it depends what colour you end up with.
 2.
They don't want some whiney twit screeching 'yaa maa wanderwaaaaallll', for instance.
Unfortunately, record sales and concert attandance would suggest otherwise.
 3. Black hardware. Why can't they go back to chrome like the proper ones? I bet they'll use the current TB pickups as well, to make things worse... Hardly a reissue at all! Of course I could be proved wrong, but this is Gibson 2012 we are talking about.
 4. Just sold a bass to Chris. An easier transaction I could not have hoped for. We had a good old chat about all things metal and bass-related - he certainly knows his onions. I would happily deal with again.
 5.
i used to have a holoflash one. it was freaking awesome!!! really miss that bass. the necks on these are soooo easy to play.
I suggest you buy this one.
 6. Bump for a very unusual and rare bass, and also to point out that CoF are definitely not a death metal band.
 7. "Don't give me no lip, I got enough of my own" - Steven Tyler, Aerosmith, Falling In Love (Is Hard On The Knees) "I don't want to live forever - but apparently I am" - Lemmy, Motorhead, Ace of Spades (live version)
 8. I'll get the precise measurement later but the neck is definitely in the realms of the P bass. The bass can be played active or passive. The controls are: Passive vol, passive tone (gold knobs), treble boost/cut, bass boost/cut (black knobs), active/passive switch, 3-way pickup selector switch. I always played it passive, but the active controls are very useful and don't change the natural character of the bass - if you switch to active and the EQ is flat there's virtually no change in tone. It weighs about the same as my old Fender so I would guess around 10lb.
 9.
There are some interesting bits to St Anger, but I can't take it as any kind of masterpiece for the following reasons. 1. The drums 2. Overly compressed and layered guitars which go against the ' raw' sound they tried to capture with the drums 3. Singing that is at times woefully out of key 'Ooooooohhhh what a good boy you are'. Well, 'its a raw production' you think, but then... 4. Multi-layered tracks of vocals, harmonising with out of tune singing! 5. Awful, cringe-inducing lyrics 'Frantic, tic tic, tic, tic, tic tock' 6. Tracks that are generally slabs of riff sections sandwiched together with no melodic development whatsoever. 7. The drums With all that said, it is probably the Metallica album I have listened to the most, just to see if I was missing something. After 9 years, I am quite convinced that it is still not very good. The first two minutes of Some Kind of Monster are great and that is about it.
Perhaps masterpiece was pushing it a bit... But I still think it's their most interesting album. James' primal scream in a lot of ways, and far, far better than exercises in water-treading like Reload. I think it's main fault is that it's too long, a couple of songs could have cheerfully been lost (Invisible Kid comes to mind). But it seems to be Metallica's way now to insist of filling every available second on a CD.
 10. I've never seen a better looking Stingray.
 11. Sold, pending the usual.
 12. If this is still here when my stuff sells, I'll have it.
 13.
Re: the muff - sarcastic description of the album's horrid cover depicting a coffin with magnetic dust arranged around it. Not the most refined put-down, I agree, but I'm not the one who coined it.
I thought as much! FWIW, I love St Anger. Mark my words, in years to come it will be re-evaluated as a misunderstood masterpiece
 14.
I'm probably being really thick, but is it only 60 squid??
It is. It needs a little love.
 15.
I lost interest after Load. I recently found a "limited edition" copy of The Muff album (aka Death Magnetic) for a fiver and bought it, but I could only tolerate listening to it once. Shame, as Rob Trujillo is a good bassist - although IMO not a patch on the style and cool of Cliff and/or Jason.
I liked Death Magnetic! I do have issues with the mix though - the bass is far too low and the whole thing is comically mastered. But we all know that already. I just picked up a recent EP of tracks that didn't make the album, apparently it's quite good. Only $2 too. Can you elaborate on why it's known as the Muff album? I have my theories...
 16.
He also designed the Fender Roscoe Beck Model for Roscoe, and this is his continuation; with the dpdt switches "hidden" etc.
As soon as I saw it I thought 'Roscoe Beck'.
 17.
Whereabouts are you?
Sunny Dartford.
 18. I thought it sounded great. If that's a P through a Sansamp, I should probably think of getting one. A sansamp, that is. It reminded me of: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGYnEtqU8u8
 19.
Could you box it up with the neck off for a courier to collect?
Probably doable! Never thought of that.
