2. I was in the same boat. In the end I decided to just pay a bit extra and got the Neos - I didn't want to have to upgrade again in the near future, which was a potential issue with the MBEs. Didn't really fancy the whole bracing/dampening thing either.
3. I have one of these that probably needs to be sold to help fund some recent purchases. Threads like this aren't making things any easier for me.
4. I was, but respectfully 'resigned' last year. I'm still on their artists page though...
5. Beautiful bass, but it ain't a through-neck...
6. Agh! If you had put this up a month ago when I still had my Rick...
7. I had one for a while on loan. Fun to play around the house unplugged but sounded dreadful through an amp, weedy and thin. I was surprised to see Dave Pegg playing one with Jethro Tull on a DVD the other day, some time around the early 90s I think it was.
8. A couple of years ago I tried out a few P basses of various pedigrees... The Hoppus sounded the best. I could not own one however as it is the Mark Hoppus/Blink 182 bass. Shame really.
9. Foderas, Ken Smiths, Seis, ACGs... I would happily have a go on one though if the opportunity arose though. The looks just do nothing for me, and I imagine the sound to be very modern, clinical and sterile - probably totally incorrect an assumption. Despite this general aversion to this style of modern, silly money boutique instrument, I'm still fairly obsessed with Alembics, partly because they still have that 70s hippy ideal imae, but mainly because I know how awesome they can sound.
10. Amazing.
11. Supertzar by Black Sabbath. Or for the very ambitious, Queensryche's Suite Sister Mary.
12. Mine arrived yesterday - Won't get a chance to have a proper listen until the weekend though!
13.
Bummer. I suppose if you're not enjoying it then it's time to move on - do bear in m ind though that with keys you're routed to one place unless you've got an awful 'key-tar' or similar, Urgh.
Don't know what you're talking about, the Key-tar is the future.
14.
Thanks for the comments. Now been looking at the GK Neo210 - the wedge shaped one. That has a good spec, good reviews and quite light so might be a better choice as I can see other uses for it.
I just picked up two of these to use with my MB500, and they are excellent cabs. I think GK have discontinued them now though - give Mansions a shout, they may have some left.
15. Just bought another Spector Euro from Mark, I have a dangerous addiction that he understands only too well. Top bloke, very easy to deal with, and he knows his onions. A credit to Basschat.
16. When the strings get old on my Ovation acoustic bass they make my fingers smell like pickled onion Monster Munch.
17. UPDATE THE THREAT TITLE!!!!
18. Sold my Rickenbacker 4003 to Derek - a hard bass for me to put up for sale but I'm pleased it's gone to a loving home! Transaction couldn't have bben smoother or easier. Deal with confidence!
19.
An MB800 Fusion - having the 500 version, and not being able to use anywhere near it`s full power, an 800 version is a frightening (but appealing) thought.
I can confirm this - owning this very MB500! It had it's live debut on Saturday. Playing through two 4x10s, I had the volume at 8 o'clock. Almost comically powerful. Needless to say, as I was playing my Spector, the sound was incredible.
20. We briefly used a trailer behind a people carrier, until one night on the motoerway a lorry doing about a ton clipped it, resulting in the trailer flipping over and the people carrier following it. They had to peel the roof off like a corned beef tin.
21. I have the MB500, which is similar I think. I've had it a few weeks, been using my old Ibanez Blazer and Roadster mainly but just took my humble Spector NS2000 along to rehearsal, and... Wow. Seemingly instant Eddie Jackson / Rex Brown tone. That boost channel is amazing. I've been bouncing around like a loon all day, can't stop grinning! I'm so impressed I'm just about to buy another Euro Spector to replace the one I sold a few months back. Spector and GK, a match made in heaven. Anybody want to buy my Ibanez Roadster, I no longer have any need for it
22.
You're right. Rick for Gates, just had a listen, was thinking of a different track before. The other two are a Jazz. Your turn now, Barchatta is Rush, or are you asking whether Geddy is using a Rick for that one?
I know it's Rush, this thread just reminded me of the seemingly eternal 'Rick or Jazz' debate when discussing Geddy Lee For the record, I think Barchetta is the Rick
23. Spector and Gallien-Krueger. That is all.
24.
Have a listen to 'The Gates of Delirium' from Relayer - def Jazz Compare to 'Roundabout' (and, of course 'The Fish') from Fragile - there's your Rick. btw, any other animal name bass players to add to this and The Ox?
Gates is the Rick isn't it? Sound Chaser and To Be Over is the Jazz. What about Red Barchetta?
25.
I've seen him use a Jazz bass, a non reverse Thunderbird & his old faithful Rickenbacker (along with many other basses) & he sounded pretty much the same with all of them.
They sound completely different to me... Very noticably still Squire playing, but very different tones. Well most of the time anyway Different strokes and all that.
