1. Here's an interesting curio, a BC Rich Ironbird bass of indetermined age and vintage. Despite being wooden it's unbelievable METAL, in fact it's so METAL it comes ready-customized with Metallica sticker and classic 'screw-in-place-of-strap-holder' detail. Please don't judge me - I rescued it from Cash Converters. I saw it hanging sadly in the window, being cruelly mocked by emos, and just couldn't walk by. As usual on a body like this, a couple of the more extreme points have small knocks at the end. The electronics work but one of the pots is loose and rotates ad infinitum. Neck is in great condition however. In a nutshell, a bit of a neglected Beast that could shine again with a little love. Just £60 could help bring this 'bird back to recovery. Collection only I'm afraid.
2. 1981 Ibanez Roadster bass, stunning condition throughout, with OHSC (seen better days but functional!) This is the higher end version of the Roadster, with optional active electronics. These are basic but very effective in how they retain the P/J character and don't colour the sound too much - just a great bit of optional boost if you need it. Some very light wear to the body and a couple of minor whacks to the headstock - see pics. Also, most of the black paint appears to have rubbed off the battery cover. Also, there is some light wear along the edge of the neck. I've taken a picture but it's hardly noticable when being played - it looks worse than it feels. Hardware all original and clean, all electronics working perfectly. I've owned a few vintage Ibanez basses and this is the cleanest I've ever seen. I'm after £350 for it. ]
3. I've just purchased this Spector Rex brand new from Mark at Bass Direct. I've only had it about a month but as usual something else has caught my eye, something has to go, etc, etc... Same old story. As expected, it's in as-new condition and is, as far as I can see, totally blemish free. Official specs: NECK HARDWARE NECK CONSTRUCTION: 3-Piece Rock Maple Neck-Thru Body Design Graphite Reinforced FINGERBOARD: Rosewood NUMBER OF FRETS: 24 SCALE LENGTH: 34" RADIUS: 16" NECK INLAYS: Pearl Dot WIDTH AT NUT: 1.56" STRING SPACING AT BRIDGE: 0.70" BRIDGE HEX KEY SIZE: 2mm TRUSS HEX KEY SIZE: 4mm COLOR: Black BRIDGE: SPECTOR® Die Cast Locking Bridge ELECTRONICS TONE CIRCUIT: EMG® BT™ CIRCUIT TYPE: 9-Volt Active - Boost and cut, bass and treble BRIDGE PICKUP: EMG® 35HZ™ NECK PICKUPS: EMG® 35HZ™ PICKUP TYPE: Passive - Dual Coil BODY Our Professional Series™ REX™ Basses Feature Neck-Thru Body Construction with Maple Wings. Makes no difference to the sound. And despite the shape, it fits happily inside a standard gig bag. Quite a rare beast on these shores, a quick Google search shows they retail at around £839.99 - I'll ask [s]£600[/s] [s]£550[/s] £[s]500[/s] £475 for mine. Collection preferred but can arrange postage if needed at buyer's cost. [attachmeMAG0639.jpg]
4. Maybe on 'Hero of The Day', at the beginning?
5.
In one televised appearance, I saw one of the furry critters wielding a six-string Ken Smith.
Ha! I remember that!!
6. Mate that would be perfect! I'll PM you.
7. I'm having some issues with my current rig. I have two brand new GK cabs and a GK MB500 head. I've hardly used them together but whenever I do I notice a disturbing farty sound coming from the cabs. The weird thing is, it's exactly the same from both cabs, which would suggest a problem with the head, but I've used the head with other cabs and have noticed no ill effects. Although I bought them new, the cabs have been sitting upstairs for a few weeks and I have chucked the boxes away, which could make returning them a problem... I need to try the cabs with another amp but I only own the one. Are there any BCers near Dartford who would be willing to give up an hour or so and the use of their amp? I can bring biscuits. Thanks in advance!
8.
Kind of have issues with his whole AIDS denialism thing. And by kind of have issues I mean I do have issues. Massive ones. .
What has he said/done?
9. Ah, my first proper bass...
10. A fantastic bass, made that little bit better by the lack of dongs.
11. Great player, a once great band, but does he really deserve his own sig?
12.
otherwise I find I`m in the way of the guitars.
I don't see any problem there...
13. My mate has a Thumb 5 BO - albeit a broadneck version, something only available as a custom option these days for comedy money. As basses go, the Thumb is utterly unique, like playing a bit of tree - in a good way. One day, I will own one. If you keep your eyes peeled you should be able to pick one up for a good price.
14. 2 points: 1) Awesome wife. 2) Best neck ever! The bass, that is.
15.
Hi just wanting to get your opinions on any of these heads, i'm looking to buy a new head (would love a 2001rb but really i don't need that much power)
Just get a GK 700, surely?
16. Bizarrely attracted to the one knob fuzz.
17.

Sound as a pound.
18. I've used Rotosound 66s for the best part of a decade, never had any fret wear issues from them. I love the fresh from the packet sound. My only issue is that they lose that clank too quickly. I'm looking for a string with a similar sound that lasts a bit longer, if anyone has any suggestions?
19. If I had seen this last week I would have had it! Favourite neck ever!!! Good luck with the sale, this shouldn't be here long.
20. Just sold my Orange amp to Zenitram. As the good Ms Undead said, a pleasure to deal with! Enjoy the amp!
21.
Couldn't agree more. There's always been a great balance in his writing, he knows exactly when the guitar and bass needs to be playing and when they don't need to be, and when they do, he's proved how effective simple but well written parts work, i.e. The Dope Show or The Beautiful People.
I've never been a particular fan of his playing, but his tone on Mechanical Animals is just immense. I read an interview with him in Guitar World magazine at the time (he played all the guitar parts on MA as well) which discussed how they recorded the bass for that album. He played an old Gibson EB-3 or Fender Precision through a mic'd amp, the signal of which was then sent through a large PA system. That's what you can hear on the album. Incredible sound!
22. That used to be mine! Stunning bass, they really do live up to the hype. I sold it on as the neck was a bit too slim for me.
