1. I know that Basses are bigger and heavier than ordinary axes, but , apart from wall hangers, are there any other ways to display your fave basses?
2. These are good I remember when these first came out. It came out the same time as the Bass Whammy. This got a better write up in the bass mag of the day. Instructions are a bit crap tho'. Nice price.Won't be on here for long.
3. I was in a band with 2 guitars. On 2 songs they put crapos on. They just advised me to 'play up/down 2 frets' it worked. Not entirely sure, but think a 5 string would be better to use in these situations..or a fretless as mentioned above.
4. Mesa boogie walkabout scout?
5.
Hi all I traded an electric for a 2001 USA Fender P bass with competition stripe some time ago but realised that a P Bass is a bit chunky for my female teeny mitts - I am also advised by your knowledgable bass-chatters that it is quite a rare thing (any further info gratefully received); condition wise its really good - there are a few dark marks here and there on the body which may be contact marks or at worse case finish imprefections but really nothing to get too exctited about unless you are looking for a mint piece So on the sad basis that it is not sensible to just keep £s tied up in guitars I have no prospect of playing I am sending out this feeler as to anyone that may be interested in buying and possible sensible values - I was thinking around £650 - I may consider a trade for a jazz type bass with blocks and ideally a white body but will consider what you have ! Think this is a great forum and there is a whole lot of knowledge in the combined brain power of the members so over to you all! cheers
Nice bass Charlie.(you should have lucy/snoopy as your avatar tho' ) I f I were you,I'd consider purchasing a short scale bass (bronco, les paul etc.) or even a headless if you're finding the bass a little on the big side. Good luck with the sale
6. Nice one! Roll on 2011 for Rush gig(probably o2). They may even announce dates on the awards night.
7. Nice 1st bass. Looks like a Tanglewood ,or something.
8. Myself and Mr. Drums(who plays loud anyway) were annoyed on our last practice on Sunday. We're doing a gig tomorrow, and while one of the guitarists sent a general email about tomorrow, I asked them about soundf levels: I told them that myself and Mr. Drums were unhappy about the volume. I suggested that for the first 2 songs ,Mr. Vocals can walk around and gage the volume and make sure we all sond the same. It worked in a previous form of the band. I am awaiting their responses. IMHO The guitarists are always the ones that like to blare it out. In my younger days, being happy/keen I used to try and play as loud as mr. guitar. Of course, the rest of us got too loud and we sounded crap! The main guitarist in our band has alot of pent up aggression at the mo'. His wife committed suicide last year, leaving him and his daughter to get on with it. Also, when playin live, play low to begin with. Otherwise you ain't giggin' in any pub. I'm not keen on using earplugs . Sometimes I use them , but I think I will use 'em more often.
9. Had to laugh the other day. Thought I'd checkout Dimmu Borgir(wanted to see what was special about them etc) One of the comments was'popeye the sailor man'. And yes,the frontman does sound like popeye
10. Too many but I'd probably say: Billy Sheehan Stu Hamm Geddy Lee Cliff Burton Geezer Butler (obviously not in any order)
11. You need about 350 watts to cut through 2 guitarists etc.(you probably won't have to use that much, but it's nice to know you have extra power in reserve). (Pub gigs etc.)The next thing to consider is if you want head/cab or combo. Also,do you want bassy(ie trace elliot etc/) or clean(gallien krueger etc.) Amps that have a bad name: Behringer. Good name :Aguilar. Other folk here will tell you lots more. I used to have a n Eden Nemesis combo . It was awesome, and would've suited you to the ground.Sold it as I don't drive. I now use Aguilar head/combo which rocks!! Checkout the for sale items here.
12. I remember going to a music fair at wembley in the early 90's. Bought a few sets of Trace headless cheap, I had a lot of trouble tring to fit them into my washburn.I thought that all headless strings were the same(doh!) Obviously not
13. Mainly the Washburn Status,as that's been my first'proper' bass. Reliable, easy to change strings (if needed ) etc. Been using the steinberger for the last few gigs, for potrtability etc.Have done2 gigs(and one jam ) with the Telecaster, but doubtful if I'll do anymore as I have to keep my eye on it. Done a couple of gigs with the JD bass, but prefer the feel of the headless. Not confident to play the 5 string in a gig situation yet.
14. ''Geddy''(His real name is Gary)
15. Going to meet the pope tomorrow,to ask for a donation for Bono. Does this mean I get an audition?
16. Steinberger? Schecter?
17. I find that during the break, switching on my Zoom b21u drum machine seems to do the trick.
18. Saw Saxons original guitarist hit his face(while blindfolded) at the Electric ballroom once
19. Saw some of his demos of basses and pedals on you pube a while back. Great player. Never been a Whitesnake fan ,but Mr. Coversnail's had his day imho. Think Uriah will be playing with so many big bands ,as and when, and more power to him.
20. Wow !! Love the long dialect about the Digitech Bass Whammy. Put all the other stompboxes in the shade..
21. Looked at it a second time, and I think it's now got over 6 days to run. Having said that, to me , it looks like a cheap Fender copy .I know it isn't , but It doesn't do it for me
22. Probably the best stingray I've seen
23. Well, some hate headless. Some hate pointy basses. Some hate Fenders. Me? Two of the basses that irritate me are : Warwick NobbyMeidel Headless bass.(Just plain ugly, and the worst headless bass I've seen) Hofner 'Beatles' bass. (just looks boring ,and apart from 6o's tribute bands, who else uses them?) Let's see what you all love to hate
24.
+1 for the Gino Vannelli and Go West tracks. On a different slant, another tune that never fails to lift my spirit is one of my fave TV theme tunes ever...ever... Man, I just love that walkin' bass and strings! Theme from "Route 66" (1962)
Never knew anything about this programme. But the music/vid is ace!
