Out there, somewhere, is a band of musos who will be easy to get on with, have no egos and understand what give & take means.
Well, it was like that.. they were like that... but then?? What happened?? Thanks tho'
2.
Once it stops being fun, move on.
True
3.
Makes room for you to move on to better things, band partners that inspire your own performance etc T
Trying to find someone who appreciates Steptoe & son and Hawaii five o could be difficult.
4.
Sounds like both guitarists have an ego problem. Well done on you for having the courage to walk out of what sounds like a toxic situation
Thanks Not new for guitarists to have ego's. There was talk of a band meeting, and we had enough time imho to talk today between our 2 sets today. Instead Guitar a makes me scapegoat imho
5. Thanks guys. Well ,I think what you all say is true. To be honest,it's only after the last week or so that everything's got out of hand. They're a nice bunch really ,but I don't think the bass is taken seriously enough. Just because I'm placid, I shouldn't be shown less respect than other band members. As was mentioned above.. the les dawson notes are definitely heard more on bass. The guitarists do quite a few themselves, and I think the crux of todays problem was that I get crucified for not learning a song on time, and the guitars made quite a few mistakes today. Finding bands near me is difficult ,and mr. drums is/was a great chauffer Might offload some gear soon.
6. Well,as with most bands ,there's always a long story. So I'll try to condense it We aim to rehearse every 2 weeks. But it's often 3,4,5 weeks. We learn the set, suggest others, and put some 'on the back burner'. O f course, with such an arrangement wires get crossed, with some songs totally forgotten about, and others learnt. And some of the band know the songs and are ready, others are not. Anyhow the reason everything's gone sour is threefold. First of all, guitarman b starts having digs at the singer at times in certain songs. (not aggressive, just alittle too sarcastic) Second thing is, I have had a terrible year (who hasn't ? ) I was at a stage a couple of months back when my brother moved in permanently into my flat(soon to be ours) and I only touched the bass about twice in 6weeks. (our rehearsals were less frequent then ,through other band members so I was very weak on the new stuff). We did 2 gigs recently and I had to go look after my mum for a week the morning after my last one. I/we were on a high. Got back to heathrow, and find mr.drums quits. He cancelled on a booking we made ,as his band were on at the same night elsewhere. I managed to keep it going and got him to reconsider. He was annoyed by Guitarman a 's email reply. I know it was a bad error ,but mr.drums didn't mean it and we bassplayers are mellow . I got shouted at by guitarman a , because I found it hard going learning what I'd call a difficult song. I knew about 80% and he goes in a strop. So, if there are issues to be sorted , why didn't the band bring them up? Apart from that song,I got the rest pretty much spot on ,apart from a brief les dawson moment. The guitarists made a few mistakes today, also we changed the key of one of our songs on the spot ,as guitarist b wanted to try it. At our last gig, guitarman a lost his capo ,and we had to swap songs around. Just received an email from the drummer asking me to consider, telling me I'm too sensitive and guitarman a is blunt as a person. But if I'm playing with hens instead of friendly people , I think it's best to quit.
7. Bassmanady is /was after one of these...you may want to pm him
8.
I use a couple of horizontal mountings in the man cave: http://www.dv247.com/studio-equipment/quik-lok-gs413--7123 It's mostly the pretty ones that live up there. The heavy usages are on the right at foot level, in a warwick stand. Edit: Just re-read the OP; '... apart from wall hangers...' - ignore me.
That's quite cool
9.
I want one of them American fuel pump style cases or the juke box one.
Yeah ,the pump one is cool
10.
Aren't those picture frames things for people who can't play to display an instrument which cost a lot of money and is for looking at not playing?
That's me rumbled
11. Fleabay? I think there's a shop in usa that does that kinda thing .
12. I know that Basses are bigger and heavier than ordinary axes, but , apart from wall hangers, are there any other ways to display your fave basses?
13. These are good I remember when these first came out. It came out the same time as the Bass Whammy. This got a better write up in the bass mag of the day. Instructions are a bit crap tho'. Nice price.Won't be on here for long.
14. I was in a band with 2 guitars. On 2 songs they put crapos on. They just advised me to 'play up/down 2 frets' it worked. Not entirely sure, but think a 5 string would be better to use in these situations..or a fretless as mentioned above.
15. Mesa boogie walkabout scout?
16.
Hi all I traded an electric for a 2001 USA Fender P bass with competition stripe some time ago but realised that a P Bass is a bit chunky for my female teeny mitts - I am also advised by your knowledgable bass-chatters that it is quite a rare thing (any further info gratefully received); condition wise its really good - there are a few dark marks here and there on the body which may be contact marks or at worse case finish imprefections but really nothing to get too exctited about unless you are looking for a mint piece So on the sad basis that it is not sensible to just keep £s tied up in guitars I have no prospect of playing I am sending out this feeler as to anyone that may be interested in buying and possible sensible values - I was thinking around £650 - I may consider a trade for a jazz type bass with blocks and ideally a white body but will consider what you have ! Think this is a great forum and there is a whole lot of knowledge in the combined brain power of the members so over to you all! cheers
Nice bass Charlie.(you should have lucy/snoopy as your avatar tho' ) I f I were you,I'd consider purchasing a short scale bass (bronco, les paul etc.) or even a headless if you're finding the bass a little on the big side. Good luck with the sale
17. Nice one! Roll on 2011 for Rush gig(probably o2). They may even announce dates on the awards night.
18. Nice 1st bass. Looks like a Tanglewood ,or something.
19. Myself and Mr. Drums(who plays loud anyway) were annoyed on our last practice on Sunday. We're doing a gig tomorrow, and while one of the guitarists sent a general email about tomorrow, I asked them about soundf levels: I told them that myself and Mr. Drums were unhappy about the volume. I suggested that for the first 2 songs ,Mr. Vocals can walk around and gage the volume and make sure we all sond the same. It worked in a previous form of the band. I am awaiting their responses. IMHO The guitarists are always the ones that like to blare it out. In my younger days, being happy/keen I used to try and play as loud as mr. guitar. Of course, the rest of us got too loud and we sounded crap! The main guitarist in our band has alot of pent up aggression at the mo'. His wife committed suicide last year, leaving him and his daughter to get on with it. Also, when playin live, play low to begin with. Otherwise you ain't giggin' in any pub. I'm not keen on using earplugs . Sometimes I use them , but I think I will use 'em more often.
20. Had to laugh the other day. Thought I'd checkout Dimmu Borgir(wanted to see what was special about them etc) One of the comments was'popeye the sailor man'. And yes,the frontman does sound like popeye
21. Too many but I'd probably say: Billy Sheehan Stu Hamm Geddy Lee Cliff Burton Geezer Butler (obviously not in any order)
22. You need about 350 watts to cut through 2 guitarists etc.(you probably won't have to use that much, but it's nice to know you have extra power in reserve). (Pub gigs etc.)The next thing to consider is if you want head/cab or combo. Also,do you want bassy(ie trace elliot etc/) or clean(gallien krueger etc.) Amps that have a bad name: Behringer. Good name :Aguilar. Other folk here will tell you lots more. I used to have a n Eden Nemesis combo . It was awesome, and would've suited you to the ground.Sold it as I don't drive. I now use Aguilar head/combo which rocks!! Checkout the for sale items here.
23. I remember going to a music fair at wembley in the early 90's. Bought a few sets of Trace headless cheap, I had a lot of trouble tring to fit them into my washburn.I thought that all headless strings were the same(doh!) Obviously not
24. Mainly the Washburn Status,as that's been my first'proper' bass. Reliable, easy to change strings (if needed ) etc. Been using the steinberger for the last few gigs, for potrtability etc.Have done2 gigs(and one jam ) with the Telecaster, but doubtful if I'll do anymore as I have to keep my eye on it. Done a couple of gigs with the JD bass, but prefer the feel of the headless. Not confident to play the 5 string in a gig situation yet.
