2. Aaaargh ! My eyes. Sorry , but love Maiden and Stevie , but I know I'm (probably ) the odd one out here with my opinion. A humbucker version would have been more him i m h o
3.
every cloud gas a silver lining... good luck..
Thanks
4. Thanks for your kind words . Regarding the job, one of my colleagues(who is mentally unstable) is retiring. The other guy(who is 60 in Jan ) hates me , and is a total brown nose. I took it as a temp job. 3 temp assignments later, I got offered it permanently. Then Northern Rock collapsed , recession/depression followed and now I'm desperately trying to get out . Hopefully through temping. I never wanted job permanently . This year has been my worst ,so a new start is needed asap. I know there are others with worse problems than mine , so I'll leave it there
5.
I thought you had to clear up space as well or is everything pretty much ok on the home front? If the "JD" bass is the one on your avatar, please don't sell it lol. looks awesome.
Oh, you remembered Thanks for asking . Well ,believe it or not I have more room than initially thought. Most of the basses are in a warwick rack (hold 5) . When (or if aaaargh!) my brother's flat sells then I'll feel more relaxed, and will think about buying furniture to tidy up my clutter etc. JD not going anywhere Cheers
6. Not sure if I really need all these basses really. The bass I use the most seems to be the Washburn Status. (followed closely by the hamburger bass). I wanna keep the JD bass, and the fretless.I know that times are hard, and I don't wanna sell my Tele bass for less than I paid for it. (alot) And to be brutally honest ,altho' it's the nearest 'proper' bass sound i m h o , I'm frightened to gig with it. I love the look of the Taxi bass, but haven't used it in rehearsals yet. As for the 5 string? using it at home is fine ,but I think I'd be too nervous in a band situation. As for the 6 and 8 strings? They've been ignored. Not sure whether to sell most of 'em ,as I 'm almost certain my job is going around xmas. (Hate the place anyway) On the other side of the coin, I do like the look of basses on the wall etc. I was thinking of getting miniatures instead. Sorry if it sounds a bit miserable , but I'm not the miserable type Maybe I should start over again. Any ideas?
7. Well, I don't like Cheap trick much on record. I haven't anything of theirs at all(except for the classic Rock freebie unplayed) However I've seen them a few times in London. (Astoria, Garage, Shephards Bush etc.) and they are a great live band. Saw them at Albertt Hall(which was too big for them to be honest) and they were poor. Will be there at the Bush tomorrow.
8. That's nearly as ugly as the Warwick nobby bass.....ugh
9. As everyone said..lose the guitarist
10. Need to know what music you're into, your fave bass players etc.
11. The band that I rejoined after quitting have got 'just a day' by feeder,'sweet child of mine' and some foo fighters to be learnt . But me and Mr. Drums are gonna say ''no!'' The song that pi***s me off at the moment is 'somebody told me' by the killers. One minute we were gonna do it, then we weren't. I can play the intro fine, but without realising it I was overfilling the chorus ,making it sound s**te. As for the bridge..? If we mess this up next gig, then I suggest this goes down on the hate list. Thankfully ,we're not a 'brown eye'd girl/Mustang Sally' sort of band, but we do 'pork and beans(which hardly anyone seems to know) and 'tie your mother down'.. Think we'll end up giving 'I predict a riot' a rest too...
12. These are great combos. Apparently ,the humming is common ,tho' playing live you won't hear it. The one I had had blue speaker cones, which are harder to find now imho. The missing button is easy to get from a guitar/amp repair shop. easy to fit. Always worth getting it serviced,as the sound is awesome. They look cool too. I only sold mine in the summer ,as with no transport I needed something a little smaller. This is a bargain
13.
Never one to advocate violence, however, hit the sod with the'77 Tele bass and give him something to really moan about.
14.
MB1. Still Playing in that Donovan Tribute Band then?
15. yeah,or loose connection/transformer
16. Spoke to guitar a and I'm doin' the 3 gigs already booked. Then band meeting.......
17. Bear in mind, altho' he did his suicidal stuff etc. before metallica, Cliffs sound may be close , and he used alot of 'guitar pedals'. Maybe you're better getting an effects unit or something. Also , Robert T uses alot of different basses these days too.
18. Buy from someone at Basschat. Things to consider: what style(s) music do you play. Something that will hold it's value etc.
19. Triads are ruthless.. don't upset them
20. If this was yellow,I would've had it. Or emerald green. Good price tho' have a bump
21. Got phonecall from mr. vocals. He agreees with me,but still wants me to do gig in less than 2 weeks that he's booked. I told him that if the guitarists can't be bothered to talk to me,why should I bother etc. He's got one of the guitarists to ring me,and I missed his call. May have to ring him in a few minutes...
22.
I'm also at that stage of having fun with my parents so can relate. Ultimately for me music is a hobby, albeit one that I take very seriously. If a band is doing my head in, I would walk away. In fact this applies to things in general. Work pays my mortgage so I tolerate fools but if a band started to become a hassle, I'd leave. The reality is we don't always have time to learn songs 100% of the time. If you have a busy / stressful job (& most of us do) plus other family commitments etc I think most bands get a far greater commitment than they should. Plus if he's not learnt the song 100%, he doesn't know the song. Just because he knows it better than you doesn't mean he can give you a hard time. You acknoweldge a personality clash. If you can deal with it, deal with it, if you can't don't. Between my Mum's Alzheimer's, my constant check ups at the local cancer hospital and 300 other factors I won't go in to, I simply won't suffer fools if it isn't benefiting me! And if anyone wants to think less of me because of it, I couldn't care less! There is a lot more in life than a few tunes and a small cult following. Just don't tell my wife! I get this but we have a lot of capo songs and it's amazing how great sounding musicians come very unstuck when the position is changed. I tend to be the go-to-guy for the "what key are we playing in?" question
Well, at our last gig ,guitar a lost his capo, and we had to do something else instead. I did a couple of tv themes, but he just couldn't find his capo ,poor sod. Good job the 'crowd' liked my theme tunes. At least I don't let the band down like that
23. Thanks again for all your kind comments guys. Yes, I think these guitarists do think that' bass is easy'. Received email from mr. Drums asking me to reconsider, and from mr. Vocals who wants me to help him with the gigs booked for 2/3 weeks time respectively. Nothing from guitarists(the halo is stopping them from reaching the pc screen). Mr vocals is away till Friday, and wants an answer before then. I won't do anything unless guitarists ask me nicely.(doubt it somehow) If they wanna have band meeting, then I'll let them ask me. If the guitarists aren't bothered, then let one of them play bass. I know one thing for sure, the audiences won't get the dynamic stage poses and messing around which I provide for a laugh Just a moody guitarist playing bass. Why is it imho guitarists who start this crap??
24. I have an 8 string ,which is hardly used at all. Could I ask how you got on with the sound? The selector switch sounds a good idea. My one is overpowering, and never used in band practice as I was too scared. Have a bump anyway
25.
By coincidence I quit my band last night too! Plenty of other bands around, something better will turn up. Good idea to register with bandmix, musofinder, join my band, etc.. Updating my profile this evening. Good luck mate.
Thanx Hope you weren't suffering too much. My year's been crap ,and this is just another chunk of bad luck. I'll probably leave it till new year now,but thanks for the info. Good luck to you also. Cheers
