1. How cool is that.I was at a Malmsteen gig a few years ago. He threw his strat (copy)into the crowd. Me and my friend managed to get the body. I let my friend have it.
2.
I wonder what the MD of Ampeg or Aguilar look and sound like then. Still I guess they usually don't play them
He should have let the beardy geezer do the demo
3. Would you buy a Bass from that man? Looks like a dodgy estate agent .
4. I've played PIB many times, using straight bass . Active basses make it sound nearer to the original IMHO. As for synth pedals: more people seem discouraged/disappointed in their overall performance. I would think a multi fx pedal such as Zoom B2 1 U or Boss ME -8B would be a better option. If the synthy stuff doesn't do it for you, I'm sure you'd find something that does.
5. Okay, I'm using my mac Mini (which is my main computer) into an ACER Monitor. I'm currently using this setup in my living room . All well & good so far. However, due to lack of space, I want to use my Toshiba TV which is in my bedroom as my main setup. If I can do this, it means that I can plug my studio monitors &Line6 device and play my bass through the Mac again. It also means that I can plug my mac tower g4 into the living room, on my Acer monitor. It's slow and my Line 6 won't operate on it. Anyway, I tried plugging my VGA- VGA cable into my Toshiba TV at the weekend. Once I did this all seemed well, until I adjusted the monitor solution on my Mac Mini. The screen went black. I tried resetting the PRAM ,but no good. I plugged my Mac Mini back into the Acer montor mand it works fine. The main question I have is : Do I try a VGA-HDMI cable? (VGA in the Mac, HDMI into TV) One other thing, the Mac Mini came with a white adapter, which I have on all the time. Please adfvise if you can . Cheers
6. Sometimes it's good to take a bass into a decent shop to get the intonation sorted out/bass setup. Get them to fit new strings on as well . See what the other bc's say ..
7.
Doh ! First public error of the New Year Plenty more where that came from too ! Never wanted to be perfect anyway. Think a trip to the Aguilar site is overdue, then the nearest dealer to hear what it's all about Cheers Guys T
sounds like a trip to BASSMERCHANT
8. Well, the last combo I had(Eden Nemesis nc-250) was the best I had.I did have a Peavey head/cab back 9in the 90's (too big but sound was ok). Anyway, I'm now the proud owner of AggieAG 500 SC and DB112 N T cab. When the drummer saw my setup (tweed combo /choc head) he laughed, and said it resembled something from a 1950's coffee shop. He loved my Eden combo, and was a bit sceptical about my slightly more poprtable setup. Once we finished that rehearsal, he was amazed. So was I . Don't know what the GS series sounds like, but the DB series looks and sounds the part .
9. Unfortunately , the are rather pricey as you've noticed. When these first came out, the wholesaler sent me a guitar version which I swiftly returned.(Don't know if I regret this or not). These came out around the same time as the Boss -ME8B and the Boss got more favourable feedback from the reviewrs at the time. I went with the Boss . I missed out on a Bass Whammy on flea bay (Swiss seller) . Outbid by £5.00 . Bidding finished while I was in bed.Oh, well. The way things are , these cost as much as a bass itself nowadays.Maybe if you've got a bass to part exchange or something, someone may have one. But then, is it worth it...
10. Must have /had a famous grandad Most of the items for sale haven't a bid. Let's keep an eye out
11. As I was looking at a couple of pics, a message came up telling me I 've won 25 grand.(dodgy spelling) And Sandra wants to chat to me Have a bump
12. The first video I got (it was the 80's) was Rudy Sarzo's hot licks. Sure, you can tell he is reading the autocue a fair bit, but he covers alot of styles ,and he puts alot into it. Funniest one I got was Randy Coven's ultimate lead bass. He was on another planet when he did that.
13.
Yes sorry guys, the postage cost is not down to me, mainland uk its £30 and to any other European destinations turns into £90, I can't do bu**er all about that. Of course if the winner is close by and willing to collect it from London, Greenwich area, I will refund the UK postage cost of £30, and bob's your uncle
Can't do butter all about it? Hope nobody's gonna beef about the p&p too much. Have a butter bump
14. Hope Santa gives you everything you want
15. someone will spot a bargain. Nice bass
16. like the green one
17.
Especially good if your band has a sideline selling Ice Cream?
Beat me to it
18. I'm finding that playing in pubs is losing appeal to me these days. They seem to be closing,or not doing bands anymore. Then you have to record a demo cd ,and go on the list when you do find pubs that do gigs. Also, playing in pubs with one man and his dog is soul destroying. I was thinking of doing 'corporate gigs' , but I don't think you can do many proper rock covers. And we all know about Mustang Sally . I may just jam in rehearsal rooms for fun in the new year, without the intention of gigging and see what happens. I know how you're feeling Marv. I'd say just leave the basses alone for a couple of weeks and see if you miss it.
19.
I use Garageband all the time as it's so easy. I'd love to learn how to use Logic too as it seems to do so much more. It's a bit overwhelming though and I need a physical, real person to teach me.
I should use Garageband ,and now that I'm bandless I'll get my finger out. As for Logic, I did see some one day courses advertised . One was in some guys house in Slough.
20. Well, back in the early/mid90's, I had 1st 'proper' bass (Washburn Status). Then saw a teacher for a few months ,which led me to a fretless (vester). I used to have a Hohner professional 'cricket bat' which I bought from my friend over 3 months. A few pedals here and there and that was it. (played through a huge OHM amp/cab ) Move on to 2003 , after a long time away ,I got the band bug back. (And a mid-life crisis which probably still exists). So , I got a proper Steinberger ,and got rid of the Hohner. Then because a few metal bands were doin' 5 string low B stuff I got one on a whim. I thought that was it, but no, a friend of mine started getting guitars and basses made and he made me get the JD bass and the rest. Then I made a few quid on flea bay with autographs, so I put the cash towards a rare and unusual bass (the Telecaster). When I saw the Taxi bass a few months ago,I decided that was it. Amp wise , I had to get more portable , and I love the Aguilar setup. Initially , I had the room . My brother moved in about 6 months ago. I still have the room -just!! As it is my only hobby, I did like the idea of having the basses as nice statements on the walls of the flat.(Tho' I do play them all from time to time) May be forced to quit job ,but I will try not to sell any if push comes to shove. The only basses that do interest me enough to alter my present setup, are a Kubicki EX F , a Steinberger white 5 string , a Steinberger cricket bat , a Steinberger Trans Trem, a Status Streamline and a Billy Sheehan green Attitude. Funny that Idon't go for stingrays as that's almost my name What I did find playing live , was that my Washburn or Steinberger were the main basses used due to pokey pub playing.
21. Had problems with my Steinberger. It kept eating batteries, also the jack was faulty. Got a repairman to sort it out. It's a tricky problem,so I'd say take it to repairman/woman.
22. yeah, I like it. Surprising that it hasn't got more recognition.
23. Someone on here is selling a Vester for£150. I have the same model, and it's a mystery as to how it hasn't sold yet.
