RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE

Thanks for that ! 🙂 I did have a 5 string many moons ago , and hardly used it in rehearsals or a band situation. Of course I as told by all and sundry “ you don’t need a 5 string “😮‍💨 In one of the bands I was in , the 2 guitarists were putting hair bands on my bass for 2 or 3 songs ,giving a capo effect . I assume that if I had a 5 string or was confident enough to go BEAD everything would have been more immediate. On one occasion it was funny when one of the guitarists in one of the other bands heard me playing an open B on my 5 string “ what note is that ?” 😆 All this was in rock cover bands. The good thing I guess by lounging around at home , is that it’s either BEAD or EADG basses whatever mood I’m in 🙂

I’ve seen many of those basses , and had a hohner cricket bat . It’s just that it’s hard to find a fretless version these days .

I have a question for all the beard twitchers out there regarding this subject .. I have one of my basses setup b-e-a d . Would that work with all the other tunings mentioned above ?? with all the variations it can get a bit Lionel messy , so for me ( who is not bothered about bands anymore) it’s either standard tuning or BEAD .

I received an email from gear4 music of sorts yesterday . It was a blank reply to the last conversation I had with them . So I looked on their website and the price is now £674 for the 5 string in green . Trouble now is , I’ve been messing around on my Warwick corvette which I got setup to B-E-A-D a couple of months ago. I’m now thinking that maybe I don’t need a 5 string after all .😮‍💨 I’m loving the feel of the Warwick ,and think I’m too set in my ways for a 5 string now . I think I’ll just be making more Les Dawson impressions if I got the extra string . Although the Warwick I s the weight of the buffalo 🦬 it’s not too bad sitting down . I was gonna sell it and get the Cort ,but it seems better to stick with what I have .

I watched a couple of his YouTube clips a few months ago. While initially not minding , he seems a bit Peter Kay ..everywhere and annoying. I got bored fairly quickly. I might watch one more of his YouTube clips and see if he can be accepted into my YouTube feed. As for Scott Devine ; I watched a lot of his stuff years ago and had a lot of time for him . Unfortunately I can’t be bothered with him anymore. He has those clickbait captions now,which I will not click on ! Lazy and annoying! I even managed to watch a recent one where his voice was dubbed American! Is that an AI thing ?!? I posted that on his comment section and I did get a polite reply . I stopped watching Charles Berthoud’s stuff for a while . Too much slapping all the time imho. I’ll probably watch him again in a few months or so ,to see if much has changed on his channel. That can be an issue with YouTube from time to time , when they put a certain person everywhere who is really annoying like James Corden and you can’t find the remote quick enough without using expletive language and hatred .

I phoned G4M ,and they noticed the difference in price but they said that unfortunately they can’t reduce it and is £749. No problem with the service ,and the chap I spoke to did look to see etc. I told him I’ll wait and see if the price does go down . No biggie worse things in life .

I received a reply to my query from G4M today , stating that while it’s not typical, the costs of paints and finishes differ. It’s not something I desperately need , so I just asked if the price drops again to please let me know . It would’ve been a birthday present to myself in December ,or today being Black Friday etc .The black is nice too , but I’ll see what gives.

One of my friends despises him 😆.He likes him as much as I ‘like’ Corden . I don’t dislike Miranda ,but she seems very wooden like. Sherwood Forest and very one dimensional with the on purpose gormless look. She is about as funny as Mel and Sue . ( is it Mel?🤔) 2 unfunny individuals who seem to have an in joke thing going on that I cannot be bothered to find out what it is .

‘It’s rubbish!’ Is something many of us have said when we were kids etc . As we get older and progressively wiser, ‘it’s rubbish ‘ then manifests into ‘I hate it !’,but if you take the time to find out more about the artist/ comedian / tv show etc then you can be more justified in giving reasons why you dislike or absolutely hate something . At least you have a reason to have a sensible discussion with someone rather than be seen to be ignorant . It’s easy to pick on bands such as Coldplay and nickleback etc as they have been hugely successful and been on ou screens a lot initially . Anyway fwiw , ‘I hate ‘ U2 and Bono in particular! No, sorry Just Bono as after paying a huge amount to see them on the vertigo tour after a few songs he turned the gig into a give me money for the starving charity event ! Why didn’t someone assassinate him there and then ?? But he is talented. Van Morrison , the father jack of music ! Hugely talented but I can’t stand his music . ‘It’s rubbish !’ The Fall ! I saw some long programme about them on channel 4 I think it was many moons ago . Yes, that was rubbish ! Over an hour of my life wasted. Mark E smith . Come across as a stumbling aggressive drunk with issues. ‘It’s rubbish and how did they become famous ?’…Mrs. Browns Boys obviously. James Corden , a vacuous annoying tub of lard ! Miranda Hart ! Russell Brand 🤮 Keith lemon 🤮 ‘It’s rubbish and I hate this song ‘ White Rabbit ! Pass me the razor blades , I’m so depressed ! Imagine John Lennon ! Thankfully he can’t write anything as bad as that anymore. As for Wetherspoon the coffee is okay . The ducks around here prefer to steal bags of crisps from Greggs , which may explain something 🦆

I am in the process of making all my bass collection headless only . I have been mulling over whether to get a 5 string ( mainly due to the low b) . I was thinking about getting something more expensive next year , but as I’m just messing around at home it’s probably a bit overkill to do so. This brings me to the topic above . I noticed that for some reason, the black version of the space 5 is cheaper than the green one and I haven’t a clue why that is . Not only that , the average price seems to be around the £ 749 mark . The prices are from Bassdirect ,and gear4music among others. A couple of days ago , the green one was going for £649 on Gear4music and I should’ve snapped it up ! But tomorrow is Black Friday 😮‍💨! This evening on the G4M website , the black one is £658 ( the cheapest I’ve seen so far) while the green one is £749 . I just sent a message to G4M asking why the black one is cheaper. I’m not sure what to expect , but I’m a big fan of theirs . If they let me have the green one for £658 then I’ll take it! If it’s £675 I’ll probably do so . I guess that hey are popular,and I’ll probably not get a better deal than that at this present time . Your thoughts??

When the fun stops stop

When I purchased my Washburn status from macaris in Charing Cross Road/ Denmark street back in the day, I paid full price. However I did get a nice padded gig bag ( which lasted many years) and a load of picks emptied from their jar! Paying in cash helped I guess.🙂 It’s a shame that I never purchased another gig bag as it was the perfect fit . Made by Levnson ..

This topic is most useful . I’ll be looking for something myself in the not too distant ! A friend of mine has a drummers stool , which might be something to consider also. I think it’s made by protection racket 🤔

Just noticed this thread is still here. Just to say that the software editor for the minitaur has not been updated ! It still works on osx Ventura ,but not on Mac mini m4 . Not sure about windows ..

Stopped mid/ late ‘90s . Then one of my best mates who taught me,and got me gigging , pushed me into doing a gig for my 40th birthday.Then I got motivated again, and played in a couple of bands. Got fed up when bands imploded like they do in about 2010, so stopped again . Last few years got into synths ,and started recording rubbish on soundcloud. As I’m old , I should be downsizing the bass collection but for some reason I’m thinking of getting one more bass that would be the dearest and hopefully best . I seem to have more fun noodling without any pressure to learn anything , which for some reason means my playing has got better without thinking about it .
