Watching this thread with interest . I heard a couple of porcupine tree tracks a few years ago ,and it wasn’t my bag . I have 2 Tangerine Dream cd Boxsets that he remastered, and he did a great job ! He is immensely talented both as an artist in a band situation and as a solo artist …plus as a producer ! Many hats. I stumbled across 2 live tracks on my YouTube feed over the last couple of weeks ..’Fear of A blank Planet ‘ and another track I’ve forgotten right now . Watch that track ! A fantastic performance. I’m trying to find out anything that sounds like that, and will purchase the right albums . The only thing I’m concerned about , is if he / porcupines tree etc have released patchy albums and that purchasing single tracks on downloads would be better ..

When purchasing from Amazon, sometimes the Amazon seller uses Royal Mail or EVRI ! I got caught out a couple of times ,and notice the “Amazon” service deteriorating because of this . ( Not Royal Mail, but EVRI in my case) . The tell tale signs of delays and unavailable tracking ,and even stuff delivered a day later is way out of line ! I always have to double/ triple check what courier is being used .I shouldn’t have to ! I saw a big company selling speaker stands for my Sonos speakers on eBay . Good price etc. . Then I looked at the feedback and declined their offers ,because they use EVRI They lost a sale but are probably oblivious as to why . The bigger a commission gets ,the worse the customer service is imho

Rega turntables are great , and look real cool imho . For the money you can’t go wrong . The planar 2 I had at the time was a big upgrade from the previous Dual CDs-505 I had. What I have noticed over the last decade or so, is the expansion of quality and choice of colours etc in the £250-£500 price point . A decent cartridge works wonders also as mentioned above .

You mentioned the Rega Planar 2 ,and you don’t mind considering vintage . No doubt this page will attract the usual audiophile beard twitchers who will give great advice. Fwiw I purchased a Rega Planar 2 brand new back in the mid ‘90s . The annoying thing for me at the tine , was having to remove the platter to change speed when going from 331/3 - 45 rpm . I bumped into an old friend at the time who told me he knew someone who was selling a pink triangle turntable .They had a reputation in the early ‘90s apparently. I was told the sound would blow the Rega 2 out of the water! He was right ! I had to purchase a rega bias tone arm for it ,and an ortofon or nagaoka cartridge . Anyway , apart from the lid ( which had a reputation for being fragile ) the turntable is a beast ! The model I have is the little pink thing . Innuendos aside ,they are always on eBay and worth checking out . I’m wondering what the modern day alternative would be 🤔..

I should be in a position to purchase my dream bass this year ( well nothing more than £3k if I can help it !). But what ?? Custom ? Well letts just say I’d rather avoid the uncertainty ! The ‘dream bass’ I used to think of was something like a status s2 in a lovely glossy colour , or old Steinberger trans term , or a Kubricki ex factor in a lairy colour . It seems like I’ve missed the boat on Sims custom paint job for my table top style Warwick corvette . I did think of having an animal shaped bass guitar body such as a dog , cat or rabbit 😬 I like the Warwick dolphin .. a headless style would be the one I think ..glossy airbrushed in the style of a polar bear ! As for electronics , just a passive volume bass and tone knob is enough ! No batteries ! I do have 2 basses that friends and punters used to love ..a Korean made Jack Daniel’s bass ,and a Washburn status . For some reason people were fascinated by them .

I find with the artists mentioned here , what works for me is to watch them sparingly . I’ve watched a basinful of Charles Berthoud , and don’t bother much these days if at all. I was searching for Michael manring the other day to see what he’s up to . Then I found a couple of really nice clips of manring and Berthoud together which was really nice to watch. I do like Davie , and noted he had a battle with you tube which was worrying for him. I saw a few clips of him in different countries trying out basses in his usual humour and that was entertaining for me . Sapko I’m finding grating and not really my bag . Too shouty like an aggressive George formby for my ears . Too clickbaity ! Last of all ..Scott Devine ! I used to follow him a few years back . Very open , down to earth etc . Then the little irritating reminders in the middle of clips to sign up . He just seems to be over the top clickbaity now ! Captions about why 5 strings are crap etc with his face looking at me . I understand that there are trends that these YouTubers have to compete with others incase they miss out ,but not for me so I won’t click on anything like that.I have unsubscribed from a couple of music sites because of YouTubers copying the jokey style of others that are about as funny as James Corden or Russell Brand . It’s a shame that it’s all about algorithms..

For the sake of inflation etc I’d say £2,500-£3,000. For that kind of price today ,you can get a brand new fender with case , candy and in showroom condition. It also takes you into the Rick turner handmade / custom options for example , or Rickenbacker territory., or status graphite . Plus of course used Telecaster ,thunderbirds etc. Back in the late ‘80s / early ‘90s we used to go to the annual music shows at Wembley or Hammersmith. This was a time when I was learning the bass on a more ‘proper’ level ( The time to ditch the firewood beginner bass and slightly upgrade to something more playable ). The best basses I ever played around that time , were the full bodied steinberger and Status models . I knew my Washburn status was a copy of the status ,and that was all ! I always wanted to own one of the real status or steinberger since then , but even back then they were very expensive and out of my budget . Back around then a friend of mine who has a nice synth collection asked me how much a custom bass would cost , and I’d say around £2-3,000. There are a couple of status basses that have recently been listed here for around the figure I mentioned. Very hard to get hold of and in the scheme of things reassuringly expensive . As someone who only messes around at home , I don’t know if I can justify shelling out that kind of money when I can afford to do so ! However , it’d be like having a custom made bass without the guesswork ..

I suppose the first thing to do ,is to post on the local next door website and check local crack converters etc.

Well have you left your reviews on trustpilot and /or the other sites mentioned?? If not , why not ? Do not bother with them on the phone ! Get a full refund ! With that attitude guitar guitar may be gone gone ,and then obliviously wonder why .

In that case you still have time to return it . Go onto those sites and shame them ! Maybe have a look on moneysaving expert or similar for a template to write to them. Don’t be fobbed off on the phone ! Do everything in writing. Cc the head office/ ceo on an email . 🤞you get the desired resolution

I don’t know how many days you have had it , but as I say that is unacceptable on so many levels ..especially the attitude! I don’t know how long you have left to return it , but take it up with your credit/ debit card …and then crucify them on the sites I have mentioned right away !

That is Bs! The bass has come from a bad batch of poor quality control ! First thing I would do if it were me , is to condemn them on trustpilot , farce book , X etc .You could also point them to this topic here ! If you are still in the timeframe , then you have your consumer rights . You’ve done me a favour by mentioning Guitar Guitar , who will be avoided by me in the future . On a slight tangent ; I did post a topic about cort space 5 a couple of weeks ago ,regarding the fluctuating prices. I’ve since seen that the price for the green one has gone down to £679 .However I had a look at the picture and it seems ‘off’ . What I mean by that is it looks like these basses are being churned out by the shed load without much due care and attention imho ..similar to yours ! It’s put me off of wanting one now . If I do go for a 5 string , I’ll choose a completely different brand of headless .
