The very first gig I went to was at the music Machine ( now koko?) The lineup was Quartz (headlining ) , Girl ( second on the bill) ,and Praying mantis.! Girl was awfully loud and not enjoyable at all ! The 2 loudest indoor gigs I’ve been to , Iron Maiden metal for muthas at the Lyceum ,and Manowar at Hammy O on the Blow Your speaker’s tour ! You had a feeling that Manowar did use All of the Marshall Stack ! A great gig though and we were near the back of the venue. Regarding the Maiden gig , we managed to stay until halfway through the song of the second encore ! ( How many encores were there ?) Many of us couldn’t take any more . This wasn’t helped by Mr Dianno asking the guy at the mixing desk to turn it up ! @police squad have you had band discussion yet?

Me and my friend walked out of a Black Star Riders gig a few years ago , because we thought they were dreadful !( sorry 😬)

Bizarrely ..VHS Bass Tuition videos . Trying to improve my bass playing on a massive scale , I decided to get a few videos by my favourite bassists of the time . Hot licks ! ( No not those types ) , featuring the likes of Rudy Sarzo, Randy Coven, stu Hamm and Billy Sheehan and Michael Manring. All very ‘80s . Very cheesy ! My experiences? Well the Rudy video was great ! The Randy Coven was hysterical ! ( Imagine Sylvester Stallone in an ‘80s hair metal band totally out of it) The stu Hamm was too advanced for me , and the Michael Manring one was Bass Geek Tedium and even more advanced ! Bear in mind , those VHS Tapes were very expensive ! No you tube in those days ! I was working long hrs , socialising many days of the week and I couldn’t put in the necessary time to get anywhere near the truly advanced stage . 😮💨

Bootlegger Basses

Yeah, I saw those. Strandberg boden copies. Tbh if I was going to get something like that, I’d save up for the strandberg. I’ve just cleared my credit card bill ( for now! ) Wow! Ive seen a Bogart headless which I like on bass direct , but I won’t proceed as I’m not too keen on the colour 😀. -
So sad @Tinman and @Mrs Tinman😿. I remember them when I first joined Basschat. I think that was around member the bbcleef ( I think that was how he was known as) was a regular among others. Regarding Kevin Riddles , a shame also . Saw angelwich quite a few times in London at the time of nwobhm. They had a lot of fans , and were expected to get bigger than what they were. I think it was obvious that maiden and Saxon would do very well . At the gigs , Kevin Riddles was doing it all to get things moving while Kevin heybourne was very quiet in comparison. They did manage to headline the Lyceum ( or did they support girlschool 🤔) and that seemed to be their biggest gig. My 15 year old friend at the time walked past sanctuary studios , followed the noise and was invited in to watch them rehearse . Nice touch.

Warwick corvette conundrum
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in General Discussion
Well the seller of the 5 did contact me and it would have been possible etc . However after a lot of thought , I’ve decided not to go ahead with getting a 5 string . I’m too used to 4’s . I’m going to keep my warwick for now . I’m torn between getting my Jack Daniels bass set to BEAD or the Warwick .🤔 @Mottlefeeder how was the experience with detuning your Warwick ? -

I’ve just bumped the sellers thread for the Warwick 5 string . Interesting to see the response. I am a tad surprised that nobody advised me to keep ,and downtune the bass I already have .. -

Warwick corvette conundrum

Thanks for the input . The reason I mentioned Warwick in particular is because in theory , it would make sense to purchase a new version of the corvette without all the faffing about . The downside if I was bothered , is that it would cost more for a Chinese version which some would say is mad due to the quality of the original ( 1996 in my case). To further muddy the waters , I do have one other fretted bass I could consider downturning instead . My main go to bass ( Washburn status) will always remain in standard tuning . There is another angle I thought of regarding purchasing an already down tuned bass and that was getting an ESP instead . I did think about a 5 string . I had a 5 string Schecter which was great , but the band I was in at the time hated it plus I wasn’t confident using it live at the time. There is a nice red 5 string corvette for sale on Basschat , but seller is too far away … -
Do I keep my German Corvette standard ,and get a setup to B-E-A-D ? Or do I sell and get a Warwick Taranis Corvette which is sold as B-E-A-D tuning ? 🤔

Drummers / personal chauffeur who are deaf, angry and way too fast jolting all the time with a satnav with the woman’s screeching voice telling me about places of interest. Hofner violin basses that look older than the people that invented them . So many ‘made in Indonesia’ basses these days. I do wonder if the necks are as fragile as they look 🤔. The Ibanez headless seemed to have quality control issues now and again . Active circuitry! I prefer plug’n’’ play . over complicated multi effects !

Fair play to you ! I’d expect the punters would be complaining if the carpet removal is not rectified , as it sounds that was one of the main issues . Normally playing in a band , I usually found that we on stage could always hear each other in a quite mellow kind of way and the sound levels were heard by the audience . We always did soundchecks . We had the vocalist also walk around assessing the volume at the same time time. one thing on a tangent ; on a couple of soundchecks at different venues , e were approached by the landlord telling us we were very loud . We explained that when the punters arrived it would deaden the sound somewhat, also making sure we kept an eye on things . We were asked back, and all was good . Having said all that , it does sound that whoever setup the stage in that way is now going to have to have a rethink . You’ve set the ball rolling there, whether you continue or not. The rest of the band may have been heroes just for one more day , before they realised their hearing is now shot ! 😬

From what I was told , it seems like a 50/50 chance of having to pay it. Tbh, I don’t understand fully the duties/ taxes etc . It’s different buying from the USA on eBay etc as the total is generally worked out . Let us know if you proceed .. -

Thanks for all the input. I don’t play live , or in bands these days. Just spend time recording rubbish on soundcloud these days😺 It was the Roland Bass Guitar which caught my eye …again ! I’ll just carry on with this approach, and look forward to getting the tiny Roland synth midweek. -

Yeah , too much hassle for what it’s worth . I’ll leave it 😼👍 Thanks for confirming . It can get very expensive , and tbh my time would be spent better trying to learn the stuff I already have etc -
…do they work ?? I stumbled upon various basses over the last few days. This can be dangerous, as we know. I looked at the Roland G77B with its trimmings . I decided against it for now, due to technology advancing and the chance of things going wrong and difficult to get fixed. I do have a few synths at home . I just ordered a Roland Boutique JP-X8 . A condensed version of the JX-08 which has all the sounds on the Roland Bass setup.Allegedly. This got me wondering if a Sonuus G2M would work if I used this to plug my bass into the Roland Boutique Synth! I probably won’t bother with it , but if someone tells me it works then I’ll have to get one ..
