I think it depends on the bands . You can buy Rush beer , Metallica Turntables , Box Set after box set , coffee table books , Iron maiden pinball machines etc. Plus purchasing live gig downloads along with standard fare merchandise etc. Everyhing you say is true imho but all these things would also increase their revenue. The bands not in the same bracket as kiss, bon Jovi etc would struggle a lot more I’d say ..

I have a slightly different tangent regarding going to gigs etc . Above all else , it’s not the cost that bothered me ! No! It’s the nasty way fans are being treated ,and taken for mugs ! The announcement of ‘ pre sale’ , the day of the actual sale of tickets itself , the knowledge of the organisers that the fans are going to be at their computer at 9/ 10am not even knowing the total price to pay initially , the fans frustration most of the time of not actually getting anything other than wasted time and annoyance ….then the cost ! The cost I could bear albeit with gritted teeth at times , but the roadies , the stage show ( if a band has one ) ,security etc all costs . The experience of going to places like Wembley arena has improved somewhat since even the late’80s. It wasn’t really meant for music, but more for showjumping iirc. The only event I’ve just heard about which will be expensive and a hassle , could be Jean michel Jarre doing a book signing next year! We will have to go to that , but it will probably like Geddy’s book signing at the barbican not too long ago . I met Jarre and got his autographed cd box set in the ‘80s but I don’t think I could ignore this if as expected it happens . Don’t fancy the haul to London and back , but it’s a one off ! Things could be worse …I could be paying loads to watch premier league football !

Great customer service gear4music

Might as well bump this thread again , as I’m a big fan of theirs . Yesterday I ordered a secondhand moog Mavis in great condition , fully boxed etc Including next day dpd it was £185 ! Normal rrp new is £220-235 . When they first came out 3 years ago they were about £350 . The only reason I never used the free option ( Royal Mail ) , was because I may have missed delivery due to early morning dental appointment. Another happy customer, who will use again ! -
was never a Nin fan for some reason. I have the head like a hole cd single . It as around that time as far as I can remember, they played a sold out show at the Astoria. I used to get on really well with the nice chap at the booking office who told me there were tkts going fast / do I want any ? I declined , and one of my friends said it as a fantastic gig !🤦♂️🙂

For those who say “ yeah I’ll go and see them !”, good luck with that ! We have a mega corporate music industry these days which tests the patience and endurance of fans old and new . Rush are no different to the stones , Kiss ,Metallica and many more on the corporate money grab . I tend not to moan about that side of things so much . If you want to buy the same album in multiple formats, go ahead . The same for pinball machines, coffee table books , beers of your favourite bands also. The only real gripe I have is the online booking system ! It is a con ! Expecting fans to be at their computer at 9am praying for miracles is extracting the urine ! fwiw , the last good experience I had of purchasing tickets , was for the Jean michel jarre oxygene gig in 2007 at the Royal Albert Hall. I actually went down there on a Monday morning around 9am , and there was hardly anyone there ! I got a great pair of tkts very close to the stage . As I was paying for them , the nice lady at the booking office was showing me how fast the tickets were being sold on the screen ! There was also a time when chickenfoot played Shepherd’s Bush empire . I managed to get tkts only by phone ( see tkts iirc) at home after getting home on the early shift and phoning around various agencies etc .The last 2 tkts I was told . unless a band I still want to see play near me , I think my gig going days are over .

Hope you are enjoying your retirement! So, it’s true what Bruce said about points making prizes. I’ve been watching various you tube videos on these , loopop knows his stuff! I ‘m still on GarageBand with a couple of Roland sp samplers , and thought of maybe going down the MPC route .I’m too old to be doing excessive menu diving etc, but I’m interested to know how you get on …

I like some of the other basses in that link . This one though ,looks like a copy of a 1960’s Tesco bsss imho. A bit more glossy . Not for me . Each to their own etc .

There is only one occasion that I was going to pay an excessive amount to see a band , ( £200 max ) Yes embarrassing really 😬. However , I suppose I’d better explain why .. I saw Rammstein for the first time at Brixton Academy on the Reise Reise Tour . Purchased over the internet probably ticketmaster.I can’t remember if they played 3 or 4 consecutive nights there. It was on the Thursday night I saw them . We tried everywhere to see if we could see them again on Fri/sat and got nowhere . I managed to see them on the 2 London tours after that , with the o2 Gig being a fantastic experience also . Unfortunately I don’t do outdoor gigs anymore, and I doubt Rammstein will still be going much longer . I know it’s not Rush , but seeing a band in their prime in a not too big venue is worth every penny 🙂

I too saw rush on the clockwork angels tour ..at London o2! Great of course …but my friend who managed to purchase the tkts didn’t pay for the more expensive ones.🤦♂️ This meant half of the orchestra accommodating them were basically invisible . 😮💨

eBay 'Simple Delivery' (yeah, bøllocks it is!)
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE replied to binky_bass's topic in General Discussion
I almost fell for the simple delivery annoyance ! I sold a small pedal , and something didn’t seem right . It only dawned on me when I went to print label etc . What I did was contact buyer and get his address, explaining that I’m sending via Royal Mail 24. No problem then , and I got perfect feedback . However, even after the buyer provided feedback I still got pesky automated notifications reminding me to post item 🤦♂️ The way things seem to be heading , I’ll probably remain a buyer but not a seller anymore . And I’m not buying anything from a seller that uses Evri ! -
Online purchase and courier potential nightmare!
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE replied to bigthumb's topic in General Discussion
Wow! Don’t like the attitude of that music shop in Sheffield . If it were me , I’d send an email addressing my disappointment about their lack of concern , care and customer service. Plus of course I’d be telling them that a replacement or a refund is the only possible outcome if they don’t do a proper investigation. I’d also go straight to trustpilot! As for the courier co , straight to trustpilot also . -
I do sometimes wonder whether the younger generations would bother with vintage basses in the future. Will they buy something from the usual big names such as fender, and just pick a bass because of the colour and perhaps weight? Some brands like Warwick for example , don’t seem to be in fashion at the moment . I could be wrong of course . My corvette ticks a lot of boxes in a good way . However, basses that look like tables are a bit marmite . The one I have is the weight of a buffalo ,but fine when playing with a strap, I listed it on here a couple of times but decided to have it tuned low and keep it . Metal style basses with pointy necks are also marmite etc . more headless basses are com8ng out now , but status and old steinberger will hold their value and increase imho
