  1. I feel the same when I pick up a 4 string now. It just doesn't feel right.
  2. I've never actually owned (or I think even played) a five string. I went straight from 4 to 6. I actually much prefer the six. After a little modification in technique, mostly muting and learning how to use a floating thumb, I actually find the sixer far easier to play than the four. If it wasn't for the damn weight and my knackered back I don't think I'd ever pick up a four again.
  3. I've got one of these. The neck is extremely playable for a sixer. I soon started to prefer it over my 4 strings. Great value for money.
  4. My current (maybe) / former band was made up of 2 married couples. Me on bass. My wife on Vox. Guitarist and guitarists wife on drums. It worked really well because we were / are all good friends. Musically my wife agreed with the guitarist far more often than she agreed with me. So there was definitely no musical favouritism where the band was concerned. Life is currently in the way of the band, but we're all still good friends.
  5. I generally wouldn't listen to the kind of music my most recent band played. But that's probably because I'm rock / metal through and through and most other genres just leave me cold. However, I really enjoyed the creative process of making music with an originals band that was totally different to the kind of thing I'm normally into. My bass playing definitely improved because of it. I don't think I could do the same thing with a covers band and trying to learn songs I didn't like verbatim. My general attitude is, this is my hobby. If I ain't enjoying it, I ain't playing it.
  6. Date for an Encore bass? Seems like a fair swap. Are they in season?
  7. Not so much a single song, or even what I'd consider music. But I utterly loathed all the rave / acid house, pill popping garbage. I've heard more musical roadworks.
  8. I don't know if I'd call it an unsung hero. I've certainly sung it's praises many times on here, but the Bugera Veyron is an absolute monster of an amp with a superb tone range and more power than you're ever likely to need. I've been using mine for over 3 years now and it's been nothing but excellent. If I needed to replace it the only thing I'd buy is another one the same. My biggest surprise was a couple of years ago I took a punt on those Whatfdale cabs Andertons were knocking out for next to nothing. There were absolutely brilliant and well above my expectations. I sold them on only because they were too heavy for me to lug around to gigs. The new owner was also well pleased with them and I got back pretty much what I paid for them new. Can't complain at that.
  9. Well this thread just took a rather weird turn. I like Custard Creams. 😁
  10. I'm just associated with the horrible noise coming out of the bass speakers.
  11. I had the same problem. I had to be honest with myself and admit that I either needed to lose the weight or stop playing bass. I now play the triangle.
  12. Some proper party animals on here. I've had to cut back quite a lot on my bass playing. It was interfering too much with my ability to drink.
  13. I thought the same. The Harley Benton RB 414 would make a good enough modding platform without a special body build and would be much cheaper.
  14. I believe the main trick to Steve Harris style playing is to use a very light touch. Don't be tempted to dig in, your fingers will fatigue extremely quickly at that galloping pace. Try playing by barely feathering the strings until you've cracked the correct pace and rhythm.
  15. I like that a lot! Beautiful looking thing.
  16. Unfortunately I think you might find it financially unviable unless you can borrow something and make do. ☹️
  17. How will everyone else be powering their equipment? If it's an organised event surely there will be some sort of generator or power supply? Decent deep cycle batteries aren't cheap. It seems like a lot of outlay for one event.
