  1. What? No!
  2. Kossoff, because of my age at the time and that he seemed to have got his life back on track. More recently, Bowie's death really rattled me when I found out and I'm not a massive fanboy or anything, I suppose it's because he had just always been there and it came seemingly out of the blue.
  3. Why are you playing bass with your testicles? 😂
  4. I would sometimes get a sore index, plucking finger even though I use alternate, two fingered plucking (I'm actually probably using my index finger more). However, since moving to EB cobalt flatwounds, this seems to be a thing of the past.
  5. I hold my .73mm quite close to the edge (upside down-ish) so very little flex for me. However, I don't think it matters what you use as your brain should sort it out - eventually. Vive la difference!
  6. Depends what you're hoping to achieve tonally. I like the look of the 2 p/up set up, but it's not my build.
  7. I just remembered these guys and rushed to post it, only to find that I have been beaten to it - which is a good thing as they deserve masses of recognition. I saw them with Robben Ford at the Jazz Café and they were sublime. Similarly, the also previously mentioned pairing of Tommy Shannon and Chris Layton are often overlooked.
  8. When using a pick, I used to use a 2mm or a 1.5mm (using my guitarist head that said thicker pick = ‘better’ tone). However, when I saw Bobby Vega at the LBGS I discovered that he uses .73mm, so I thought I’d give those a try, together with his ‘upside down’ grip; I haven’t looked back - .73mm all the way for me.
  9. Zigaboo Modeliste and George Porter Jr.
  10. Sold my D-Tuner to Johann today and done and dusted within a couple of hours or so. Thoroughly recommended. Cheers J.
  11. I'm a Phil Jones fanboy, I have a Cub for practising at home, a Flightcase for rehearsals which I add a PJ300 to for gigs. All of them are really pure and preserve the sound of the instrument. My Rob Allen sounds amazing through it, very upright in tone (which it's supposed to). When gigging with my P and JJ p/up equipped basses, I use a Tech21 VTDI to add a little grit, but they are totally usable without that too. I have no complaints and given that they're nice and light and compact into the bargain, why would I?
  12. Having moved my Rickenbacker 4003s on to pastures new, this D tuner that I had fitted to it is now surplus to requirement. You know these things are great and if it fitted my recent P-alike purchase it would be fitted to that, but it doesn't. Therefore, it's yours for £50 delivered, payment by bank transfer or PayPal 'friends and family'.
  13. I have two Maruszczyk PES35, leather straps that are surplus to requirement. Nicely padded, good, thick leather affairs. They are slightly different lengths: one is 39" - 55", the other 40" - 55.75" (with various stops in between using the ladder system). £30 each including postage. Bank transfer or PayPal 'friends and family' payment please.
  14. That is quality work; so impressive 👏👏👏
  15. I forgot to add Copeland/Sumner, especially the first two albums.
  16. Manu Katché and Tony Levin. Steve Jordan and Pino. Nigel Olsson and Dee Murray. David Garibaldi and Rocco Prestia.
  17. £219 at The Gallery https://thebassgallery.com/collections/bass/products/revelation-rpbx
  18. Yeah, no one would describe it as particularly aesthetically pleasing, but they sound great. Let's remember that Lee Sklar's Frankenbass is a double P and he knows a thing or two about the playing in low end. EDIT: Of course if you really can't stand the look, a pair of Nordstrand Big Splits (or similar) would do the trick.
  19. Just in case you’re unaware, the truss rod on Maruszczyks work in reverse; left to tighten, right to loosen. Now get yourself over to here and add your new purchase.
  20. Bargain! As an owner of 2 Elwood Ls, I have no doubt that you’ll be very happy.
  21. I've suddenly realised that I have more straps than I need, especially pristine, padded leather ones. Time to hit the for sale section.
