It almost seems that having that to use your phone is the main selling point, whilst I see it as an unnecessary interface. Why not just have the whole thing in one unit?

I've never read anything but total love for Bobby Vega on these and other pages. A guy with a unique voice, whether using pick, fingers or thumb. I do love it when he starts chugging with a pick and his legs join in - the epitome of groove.

There were many suggestions of Jaco's playing with various others rather than just solo or with Weather Report for the OP to sample. From that, he'll be able to view his original take on JP's playing in a new light and see if his opinion is changed by the new exposure. Pretty much what I thought he was after. Watch this space I guess.

Stability problems with FRs can be minimised by flat loading them, so only down bend is possible and fitting all 5 springs. However, if it isn't going to used much, I wouldn't buy something where part of the cost is eaten up by a mostly redundant piece of hardware. I like the suggestion of a baritone guitar. I don't find the surround a nuisance, but I did find that, with the cover removed, I'd occasionally catch my fingers on the exposed edges, sometimes so much I thought I'd cut myself. Fortunately, Rickysounds sell a bezel which prevents this, it isn't cheap though But you can ditch the whole thing completely with a flat, chrome plate that I saw a while back, it might've come from Retrovibe.

Another Pitch Black user here, I've has mine from when they were first released, never a day's aggro: clear display, accurate (low B included), mutes. To be honest, there probably isn't much between the popular models, you pick the one you like the look of best and has the features you like.

With so many of the great and good of bass world (beyond the walls of BC) hailing Jaco, it is hard to pretend his impact wasn't huge. However, for me, his playing doesn't do it for me because of the genre. Many years ago I played a 4003 at a guitar show and it probably was the worst bass I'd ever played. Add to that the cost and I wouldn't look at another again - until recently. I had gone into Guitar Guitar to try out some single pickup basses, but saw they had some Ricks, including a 4003s. I thought I'd try one to check my previous opinion still held. Totally different bass, quite a chunky neck, but OK for my hands. Then I plugged it in - oh my! I had to have that sound in my life. The lack of binding makes it easy on the forearm and the dot inlays wind the significant bling factor back nicely. Yes the pickup surround and cover are a nuisance (to me at least) at first, but whip off the cover and buy a surround for the massive hole left behind and you're good to go. I've received more positive comments about the tone than any of my other conventional pickup basses. Rics are probably the ultimate YMMV may vary bass, so get out there and try one.

You are reading the order correctly. I don't have any fx on while tuning, so tracking is not an issue and once tuned it's used more as a mute for changing basses. As the VT is being a preamp, I've put the modulation fx in a similar position to where they'd sit in an fx loop. The tweaked EQ also helps the Octaver track better with my Rob Allen.
