1. Their defrets are pretty awesome too. I had the defret my old MM USA SUB. They refilled the fret cuts with maple, removed the dots and filled them with rosewood so that they were almost invisible. A top job and nice chaps too.
  2. I have 5 basses. However, I'm trying to get that down to two; just need some buyers.
  3.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZmK4PKrJ60
Love that track (and the album; yes I'm the one) but my brain can't cope with Geddy playing that blond P (yes I know he used one originally, but that was sunburst). Doesn't stop it sounding monstrous though. Thanks for posting.
  4.
My rant is reserved for those who establish their avatar over many years, and then throw me completely by changing it,
If I hang my head any lower in shame I'll be dragging my skull across the floor.
  5. I had the same avatar from 2008 until this year (upright playing frog) but then I was bitten by the Ric bug and just had to share; I apologise
  6. It's stuck on. It came to me like that (I would've probably had it a little further south of the neck) but it works fine, when I use it.
  7.
I have always thought these looked awesome... particularly the MB2 with the koa top. I would have to add something on there to rest my thumb on though! I would very much like to have one in the stable.
Koa top - check Something rest thumb on -check
  8.
Surely there is something negative about them?
No*. I can understand the potential grief from your significant other, it's what I was expecting from mine. However, I played her the YouTube clip of Peter Kastner playing Nardis and because it sounds so different, she could tell it wasn't just another bass and could see/hear why I wanted one. What will also not help your desire to avoid getting one is that, with just a little judicious EQing, you can make them sound like a conventional fretless. Sorry. *They are expensive, but comparatively cheaper secondhand than a similar level quality DB.
  9.
3 strings were okay for Tony Levin. I saw him play this bass on Peter Gabriel's "Us" tour. It's a shame that it was lost in the barn fire at Tony's home. Sandberg did a 2 stringed one that was always at shows.

    Tele rebuild

Thread resurrection. Inspired by a lovely Tom Anderson Tele with P90s in trans turquoise, I've messed with the above guitar again. Rather than rout for full sized P90s I bought P90 voiced Strat and Tele sized DiMarzios. The I stained and polished the top (this was the 3rd attempt after 2 abortive goes). Assembled it today and I have to say that I'm very pleased with the results, both visually and sonically. And so, as this post is worthless without pics... 11.
I'm now selling everything I own to pay for it, and with perfect timing by DB has some potentially expensive issues also
When you say everything, I assume that doesn't include your original Wal
  12. Just watched the performance on Later. I liked both tracks and thought they were very un-Floyd like, in fact I thought they were decidedly Roxy Music in flavour. Guy Pratt sounded great.
  13. According to the website, my Rob Allen MB2 is approx 6.5lbs. To be honest, it feels lighter.
  14.
Fretless PRS seen on farcebook... I think I'm in love...
Filth!
  15. Any of the Rob Allens are worth a try, my MB2 can have that deep upright like tone or, with a boost in the 500k range, a more 'typical' fretless tone.
  16.
In this proud land we grew up strong, we were wanted all along I was taught to fight, taught to win, I never thought I could fail
So is full of top lyrics.
  17. Hard to beat that combination. The nicest thing about those SUB necks is, as they're 'unfinished', you can easily make them more playable. Congrats.
  18.
trades + cash ?
Not looking to get more basses in I'm afraid.

  20.
there's a lot of lucre in the nostalgia game.
Which is why pub bands that play all the songs we love to hate, often badly (you know the ones), fill dance floors every week.
  21. Given the Motown name check, LaBellas would be my first port of call. Other folk have mentioned that the tension is quite high, but I've never noticed any difference between them and my usual Elixir or D'Addario rounds (45, 55, 80, 100). http://www.labella.com/products/760fl/
  22. Hiwatt T40 head. Not sure of the price, but seems to fit the criteria sound wise http://www.robchapman.tv/forum/threads/hiwatt-t40-combo-first-impressions.31024/
