okay... next question.... i still want to build at least one of the effects im thinking of putting in this box... whats the negatives of taking cheaper dano or behringer pedals, which with some of them the main negative i hear is the plastic mountings, and remounting them in my box. In effect all I would be doing was remounting the circuitry, I seem to remeber hearing that some of the dano pedals were very close copies of other things anyway?
As well as rehousing cheap pedals, modding is another thing worth considering. I've bass-ified Bad Monkey, Boss CS-3 along with a few others. Some info here that might be of interest Freestompboxes 'Pimp My Cheap Pedal'
No bids? I would have been all over that if I seen it before the auction finished. Mind you, the girlfriend would have probably been all over me if I'd bought it, and not in a good way.
I've got one of those, albeit with a more tasteful headstock & in red/black sunburst. It's a cracking bass, wish I'd seen that listing. -
I'm another (amateur) pedal builder. Though unless I'm building something for someone else, only build what I need or interested in trying out. Though IMHO, still think it works out more cost effective to buy some pedals rather than to make them. However, decent fuzzes,OD's,distortions etc are well worth making & a damn sight cheaper than originals, generally easy to build too. One of the best examples being Woolly Mammoth. If you're interested in fuzz, I'd recommend the Brassmaster clone. Love mine. For overdrive Red Llama is pretty good & easy to build. Cheers
Just wondering, has anyone tried swapping the tone pot in their P Bass for a Varitone? I'm seriously comtemplating it...
Me too. Also, been interested in trying one out. The only thing for me, is that I do use the tone control on my precision, so don't want to lose it or have another pot there for the varitone. Mmmm... Wonder if they're available with dual pots or something similar?

+1 to buying secondhand. With the sort of sound you describe, was thinking of the V-Type Combo for sale on here. I use a 300w head with a 1x15 or 4x12 cab - sounds great, but you want something more portable. That combo could be what your looking for(?) Was tempted to that combo myself, but can't justify another amp.

Duff McKagan's old '85 Jazz Bass Special (allegedly)
Do you remember how much for and if it was advertised as a Ex-Duff?
I remember it being advertised 'ex-Duff' by a Californian muso in Bristol in a hurry to sell it, to raise some cash. I recall the asking price was around £600. -
A shout also for Emory Gordy. He played bass on some of Elvis`s early 70`s sessions, notably one of his best songs, burning love (which is what you get for spending a night with some of the females around these parts!). Fantastic little bass line.
+1 ; 'Burning Love' has a killer bassline. Emory Gordy's my favourite of Elvis' bass players. -
Philip Parris Lynott (20 August 1949 – 4 January 1986)

Thin Lizzy were the first live band I ever saw. Was lucky to catch them on their last tour (Thunder & Lightning LP) in 1982. Remember the day Phil Lynott died My favourite album is 'Black Rose', so many cracking songs on it. RIP Mr. Lynott -
Hey all, I was playing today, when I noticed that my tone pot became dysfunctional, and my tone stayed at a constant "zingy" feel rather than mellow, which is how I like it! I know how to rectify the problem (my volume pots have come unsoldered before), but i was just wondering whether this issue could cause any damage to my amp, as it may be a few days before i can get to a soldering iron. I know this probably sounds silly, but I've just got a new amp, so I want to make sure I don't carelessly damage it (e.g. like when you pull out/put in jack leads whilst forgetting the amps still on). Its a passive bass, so I instinctively dont feel there will be a problem, but I just want to see if you guys feel the same way. Cheers for your help!
No. Some players have even been known to disconnect tone pots altogether if they're not used. Cheers
