Is anyone into Can,i have really got into there stuff at the moment its very original and seems to be a big influence on a lot of bands who have been very good,i never realised the mondays covered hallaluwah as hallalujah. There is some pretty cool and funky bass playing on the documentary im watching about them.
Love Can, very good call. Not only the Mondays, but they in particular Jaki Liebezeit, were a big influence on Joy Division too. Not withstanding being an innovative bassist, Holger Czukay was also way ahead as far as sampling too. The 1983 collaboration 'Snakecharmer' between Czukay, Jah Wobble, The Edge & Liebezeit still blows me away. Funky as f***
In the interests of completeness - I just dug the mag out ( it's in Bass Guitar magazine from '05 ): There's at least three Ibanezes, two natural and one black. One of the naturals is definately a Blazer, and one of the others is the Roadstar II ( the black one I reckon ), of which he says: "Well it's the one I still use actually ( What was your first bass? ) - it's a Roadstar II which I bought in '83 or '84. I had to save up for it for about a year and a half [......] £170 quid". Loves the neck he goes on to say. What a great advert for Ibby Japcrap he is - good on him! I might buy his Steinberger just for the sake of it Pluck
Seem to remember him also going through a phase of using Fender P-Bass' at one point, before coming back to the Ibanez's. Good man, he obviously knows a decent bass when he sees one
But you can from the price!
On the contrary, if they are anything like the ones I got, then there's nothing substandard about them at all. Substantially made, with a decent weight & finished OK. For anyone who is isn't a fan of Badass, & there are a few, they're a good alternative to the usual Fender-ish tin plates, with tracked saddles. I personally don't think that cost necessarily always means a compromise on quality.
Cool, cheers mate This one goes up to £16.00 though...more expensive than the other seller. Is the back of the bridge solid, like a block or not? the pic is not great
Ends on mine are solid (one of which I bought off this seller), but as you say photo is a bit crappy. I would ask the seller TBH, just to be sure.
Not my case...it would be a disaster trust me...lol nick, the one you've posted seems similar but with the holes in the 'right' spot. Does it fit perfectly in Fenders like the Gotoh and BAII?...shame the colour, for the price I would give it a go
It fits my Tokai, which I guess can be considered a Fender Precision replica & also dropped staight into my Yamaha which is kind of Jazz bass derived. You could ask the seller if he plans to get chrome ones in at some point in near future. *Here we go chrome version here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BAD-SS-STYLE-BRIDGE-...%3A1%7C294%3A50
Not sure if this should go to the eBay section, but it's not really an auction, they've got a shop but i didn't find this bridge on their website. Anyway, what do you think? It looks rugged, like an unbranded Gotoh or something...I'm looking for a bidge for my MIM Jazz but it looks like this one requires some DIY - not my thing AT ALL lol... The only problem is that this is gold. Great bass sound, probably due to Armand Van Helden's involvement. He seems to love fuzz bass tones lately, & who can blame him!
Where could I get this done? I don't know much about the tech tbh.
Woolly Mammoth is a great fuzz. I built one myself & as Oli (Mr. Foxen) says, it's a simple circuit. It is quite synthy, I love mine. But, not sure it would give you the 'crunch' that you say you're after Sounds to me, like you need an overdrive - Fulltone Bassdrive(?)

If you're OK with working from schematics try Free Info Society or Schematic Heaven, loads of diagrams on both sites.

Was tempted by this myself, but it's a bit too 80's for me Could be a bargain to anyone wanting a headless, without spending Status £££ Hohner Jack - Bristol Tradeit

Was just about to recommend a nice fuzz, probably with some form of blending a la B:Assmaster etc..., but read that fuzz didn't work for you & you've got all the dirt you need. How about an aural exciter of some kind?
I've got a few dead notes on an otherwise fine G string. The notes at 5th - 7th frets are not completely dead, but muffled, not ringing. Does anyone know what causes this and what can be done? There are no other dead spots, either on that string or other strings. Strings came with the bass (Fender CIJ P-bass), which I bought new six months ago; I assume they're factory issue. Thanks.
You'll undoubtably get a fair few replies to this, dead spots etc.... But first I'd recommend trying a fresh set of strings & a good set-up by a decent repair man. Also see post Dead spots for more info & comments that may help. If it's any consolation, most basses can tend to suffer - some of mine do anyway, though not so noticeable with flats Guess it's a bit inconvenient on those particular frets. That if deadspots are the problem(?). Good luck. p.s. Also, if you get a Mod to shift this post to the 'Repairs & Technical Issuesl' section, you'll probably get best advice on this problem

I'd recommend a WEM Dominator. Great little combos, not particularly fancy, proper retro look with a lovely tone. Only 17watts, but a loud 17watts - think of half an AC30! Can still be picked up relatively cheap on Ebay, though have seen their prices starting to climb a bit recently. Certainly a cheaper alternative to an AC15 or a classic Marshall 1974 18w, of which it's design was allegedly borrowed heavily from the Dominator.
I've come to a conclusion that I really just don't like compression at all for live work. I've tried really hard to like it, and I bought a few compressors (ranging from supposedly bad to supposedly good) to get an idea from more than one pedal, and it just doesn't do it for me. Its either too subtle (regardless of what anyone else says to me, subtle effects don't work in a full band mix for loud noisy aggressive music), or full on too much squish. I don't have a particularly noisy chain, but it usually just serves to raise my noise floor up to more annoying levels too. Question is do I sell the compressors I have, or do I keep them for when they one day might be useful? :/ Am I the only person who has this point of view?
I'm pretty much the same as yourself too - like to feel the bass 'breathe' a bit. However, I think it can also depend on style of music, playing technique etc. Recently, in the covers band I'm in, found myself occaisionally using a limiter for some songs. But, in my originals band would never use a compressor/limiter, prefer to have plenty of dynamics.
Can they not be used just to even out levels of other effects? I know that my Micro Q-Tron gives quite a volume boost, although I don't have a compressor, I'd like to be able to level everything out.
My Q-Tron like all of them is the same, the boost is too much. I'm going to mod mine with a simple output level pot, just to bring volume down to sensible level.

Quite a few years ago, I used to borrow a friend's Washburn B20-8. Lovely bass, but did like to neck-dive. Great tone. They're pretty rare, found a photo here Washburn B20-8 Seems like there might be one currently for sale in Andy's, though probably at a typical Denmark St. bonkers price!

Not even mid-priced, why not try a nice old (80's) Ibanez Blazer, preferably natural finish, ash body. IMHO these certainly give a decent P-Bass a good run for the money. Ibanez Blazer reviews
Have you seen this Commodore Nick? it looks very similar to the bass in your avatar!
Well spotted. It is virtually the same apart from colour & mine has 'lawsuity' scroll headstock. That one also looks like it has had a control plate on the back added. I like mine it has quite a nice tone & perhaps surprisingly plays alright. Be interested to see how much that goes for, it's already more than what I paid for mine. -

Got a set of Webstrings 'Detroit' Flats 45-105. I normally use 50-110 as far as flats are concerned, & Webstrings cocked-up my order incorrectly sending me these & (disappointingly) not responding to my emails on returns policy Hence unwanted pack, 45's are not enough tension for me - like my flats to feel like telegraph wires! Anyway, still great strings - better than EBs & in many ways nicer than Chromes (IMHO). Dont take too long to play-in. Made in USA, not used - packet unopened... After £12 inc. postage. Please PM me if interested. Cheers
