Bought Lee's Fender 62' Reissue P-Bass. Arrived safely, well packed & in good condition as described at a fair price. Top chap, good communications & a straight forward, hassle-free deal. Thanks Lee.

In fairness, this can't really be something that's targeted at the typical bass playing market can it? I mean five grand for a Cort!? And as far as investment value is concerned; there are plenty of other better quality vintage guitars & basses around at the moment at good prices that will have a higher appreciation. Good luck to him, if someone's daft enough to pay that sort of money for what basically seems a pretty average weird shaped bass....

Looks like Derek Forbes & Simple Minds original drummer Brian McGee are getting together to do something similar to what Bruce & Rick have done with From The Jam: Other Simple Minds. Good luck to em', will be looking forward to gigs.

Not mine, but exactly the same - nice looking Ibby Blazer. -
Some of the boss line are more popular than others so it depends which ones you have.
+1. Depends what's in fashion at the moment.

Glad this thread's been resurrected. The Smiths had so many great innovative basslines, lot of funk going on sometimes

Actually met up with the seller this morning, after lots of furtive texts - he wanted to meet at a roundabout!. Wasn't prepared to do that. He's selling some pedals & I needed a CS-3 & as nobody on here wants to sell me one ....... Only a young chap, I'd guess 16 or so if that. Guess he may have seen some of the comments here, judging from his behaviour - at first he didn't want to give me his address for 'obvious reasons'(?!) Bought the pedal, it was a good price @ £30. My final comment to him, after the usual wishing him well etc, was 'you do know that ain't a real Stingray, right?'. He didn't respond. Oh well.....

*Sold - Pending Payment* 1996 Squier Affinity P-Bass. Made in China. Sunburst with rosewood fingerboard. Bought this locally on a whim. By all acounts Affinity's seem to be a bit hit & miss, but this one seems to be a good one. It's in pretty good nick; few small dinks on the back & one on the front just above the volume control - hardly visible. Nice player, with quite a fast neck, which is why I dont want it. Prefer my Precision necks to have baseball bat profiles! Pickguard which has aged to a cream colour, even still has the cellophane on it, as I don't think previous owner realised this is so supposed to be taken off! Good bass for a beginner, a back-up or a modding project. £70 pick-up from Bristol. Can post elsewhere for about a tenner. Cheers
The A list LA session musicians were called the Wrecking Crew. You can google them but they included:

Guitar: Glen Campbell, Barney Kessel, Tommy Tedesco, Al Casey, Carol Kaye, Billy Strange, Don Peake, Howard Roberts, James Burton, Jerry Cole, Mike Deasy
Saxophone: Steve Douglas, Jay Migliori, Jim Horn, Plas Johnson, Nino Tempo, Gene Cipriano
Trumpet: Roy Caton (contractor), Tony Terran, Ollie Mitchell
Trombone: Lou Blackburn, Dick Hyde
Keyboards: Leon Russell, Mac Rebennack (aka Dr. John), Mike Melvoin, Don Randi, Larry Knechtel, Al Delory, Mike Rubini
Bass: Carol Kaye, Joe Osborn, Max Bennett, Chuck Berghofer, Ray Pohlman, Larry Knechtel, Lyle Ritz, Jimmy Bond (007)
Drums: Hal Blaine, Earl Palmer, Jim Gordon
Percussion: Julius Wechter, Gary Coleman , Frank Capp (contractor)
Conductor/arranger: Jack Nitzsche
Harmonica: Tommy Morgan

More info here LA Studio Musicians Good call - love the 'Dirty Harry' soundtrack, on my iPod constantly. Film's pretty good too, particularly Scorpio's character. I thought Chuck Rainey played the bass on this, but also seem to recall someone telling me it was Paul Jackson(?)

Spotted that too this morning! Luckily I'm not into Stingrays, but it would have been a bargain at that price - if authentic. Was meaning to email seller for more info as he's just up the road from me, but now it's gone (again).
It is covers, I could understand the need to be more creative as a group if it were originals.
Echoing a lot the other comments made, I don't think you're not at all out of order. This is one of the reasons I've just left a covers band I was in. Rehearsal time isn't free & not for working out parts IMO. All band members should at least try to do their homework beforehand.
Well this moosapotamus looks interesting as it would open up a whole world of sinful low-end-eating guitar pedals to me, plus I now know exactly what parts I would need to buy for it, so maybe that! Ordering new stuff would also allow me to get ahold of a permanent enclosure for my mammoth as well without paying postage more times than I need to. Maybe also an A/B or an A/B/Y box as well, since it makes sense to order the parts for multiple pedals at once. I assume that an A/B box switches between 2 peadals and an A/B/Y can switch between 2 and also have both on simulataneously? On top of that I could also order the parts for the Llama while I'm at it. Basically, as long as I'm using prototyping board I'm happy
Sounds like a good plan buying all the bits in bulk, especially with the boxes included. A paralooper or any good blender is worth it's weight in gold IMO, especially for bass. Mine's out on indefinite loan at the moment, so I'm going to build another one. Might be wrong here, but an A/B or A/B/Y might be only benefitial with two amps or channels when using with two pedals/separate signal chains(?)
Cheers Nick, you're a legend mate. What on earth is a rectifyer (that's what I got when I googled that 1N4001 component)?
No worries Craig. 1N4001 is a diode. If you need any, PM me - got a bag full of them somewhere! So what are you gonna build next mate? Cheers
Wow that seems a complicated circuit for what it does. I like it though! What are those 'U' components?
Yeah...the ICs are TLO72's. More info on the Paralooper if you're interested here

Gig tonight but feeling poorly. Help me get through it.
Cocaine? or failing that some whizz?
Would probably get you through the gig, but flu-like symptoms will be greatly magnified on the come down. I swear by Contac 12 Hour Relief (Non Drowsy) capsules, contains pseudoephedrine, so don't exceed recommended dose! Saved me many a time, when struck down. -
Another one from Metasonix, makers of the 'f***ing f***er', the Butt Probe pedal. Even has such controls as; Fist, Ream & Screw
I dont understand a word that has been said in like the last 7posts Maybe I won't build this thing lol.... Out of interest, what other things have people here built/what would you suggest building?
Wouldn't worry about that to be honest. Myself, I like to know what's going on in the circuit etc....but at the end of the day who cares. As long as you can build it & it works - so what if it's not understandable how it makes the sound you like. Would still recommend you build a Red Llama, it's an easy one, sounds great, plus Al suggested some good mods I wanna try myself on my next build of one. Another, effect that I think is quite handy is Paralooper. Not built from this layout myself, but it is 'verified'. Basically a good blender. I understand the Barge Concepts VFB-2 'Variable Feedback & Blend Bypass Looper' is somewhat based on this.

Well done Craig - welcome to the world of cloning!

Quite a few years ago in one particular band I was in at the time, thought nothing of playing whilst pissed, stoned, wired, tripping or even on a combination of all. One particular gig at Wolverhampton Wulfrun Hall on a tour, supporting a fairly big band of the day, which also happened to be sponsored by Holsten Pils(!) still sticks in my mind. Prior to the gig, I'd taken 'something' to get me in the mood so to speak. However, when the time had come to go on & play, I somehow had managed to lose my fellow band mates. They had already started playing, whilst I was franticly running around confused with a bass, lost in the massive kitchen that had become a Labyrinth below the venue, also to the bemused looks of the catering workers. Eventually found a way on to the stage, but then had further problems actually finding the jack socket on my bass to plug into. Managed to badly play my way through the gig, the audience had become a giant shoal of smiling fish. When I turned round to face the drummer who I could hear shouting at me for playing so badly, found myself confronted with Uncle Fester from the Adams Family! Absolute nightmare - bad time. I don't partake anymore & have been teetotal for a while now. For me now, I feel I play better whilst not under the influence of anything & actually prefer the rush of adrenalin I get from a good gig, which I think alcohol & substances can sometimes suppress. But each to his own....

Thanks for the heads-up OldGit - will definitely be tuning into that. The guy's a legend & a true survivor. Love the stuff he did with PIL. Plus a lot of his session work, lovely dubby tone & feel. Played on so many good tracks....
Lovely bass that! Don't sell it, if you ever do though, pm me!
Thanks. Not thinking of selling it at the moment. Had some interest in it a while back from Manchester Hard Rock Cafe & few Mondays collectors, but never followed any up. As well as being a nice bass, guess I'm quite sentimentally attached to it. Bought it in '93, at the time there was a lot of their gear for sale on the Manchester market. If I do ever need to sell it, afraid you'd have to go second in line anyway, as Mr. Ryder would like it back! Here it is in action, any excuse to post a Mondays song
Ya kept that quiet didn't ya. Did you have it when you played with Scorpio?
Yeah, it was my only bass back then, always used to get nice compliments on it from Dave (Soundman). Remember when we did some demos with Steve Osborne, as soon as I got out of the case, he was '...oh no, not again' with a look of horror on his face We coincidentally ended up with same management as Shaun Ryder too before it all came to an end.
I was goin go to say I once played one of Paul Ryder's old basses, owned by a guy called Nick..., and there you are! Nick, remember Macfarlane Road in Shepherds Bush? You were in a band with Keith? Mike
Hi Mike, how's it going? Yeah, that's me - small (internet) world! Was with George & Jules, who incidentally is on Never Mind the Buzzcocks next week Good to hear from you, hope you're well. That must have been mid 90's(?) - I have some hazy recollections of that time! Remember yourself, didn't you play a lovely white jazz bass(?) Very well too if I recall. Cheers
