1. An old design (big enclosure) EHX Q-Tron after an old version of Octave Multiplexer. Q-Tron isn't the best EF around, but I like it & I think it has some good funky sounds for the price. It will do me, until I finally get round to building a Meatball clone, which will hopefully be over Christmas break.
  2. One of my favourite bass vids on Youtube & showing that the Precision is as good a bass as any for slap.
  3.
Fantastic. I've just got to think of some questions.
Me too!
  4.
they do look even better when there's more than one, that's for sure
Aaah...don't do it!! Just out of interest & possibly a daft question; why did you have so many of them?
  5. Mr. Forbes & Brian McGee have got back together to form 'New Gold Dreamers', similar to what Bruce & Rick did with 'From the Jam'. I'm looking forward to when they do some gigs or a tour, & have cahnce to hear the old classic SM stuff played the way they should be. Love his playing on this
  6.
Whoooooah sh*t! Sorry Nick, I had no idea that was you! Any criticism of your photography, real or implied, intended or accidental, is hereby unreservedly withdrawn.
No worries mate - no harm done. I know I'm no photographer & the camera I have isn't the best in the World. Did think about taking some pics from the web & putting them up, but to be honest I sometimes feel that when sellers do that, they may actually have something to hide too. At least my bass exists, sh*te photos or otherwise! Wish I hadn't seen Paul_C's lovely photos other SBVs now, starting to regret selling this already - kind of inverse GAS(!?) Oh well....
  7.
quantity not quality !! i know what you mean tho - it does just make you think they're hiding something.
I have added further close up photos, hence the statement "Will post more detailed photos tomorrow" Just for your information, I have nothing to hide with regards to selling this bass or indeed anything else, you can check my feedback on Ebay & on here to back this up. Hope this helps lay any of your suspicions to rest.
  8.
Thanks for reporting your results Nick. I have made a replica of my 1153 cabinet in lightwight ply using the original Celestion speaker and port tubes. I am very pleased with the result - it sounds identical but only weighs 16k. I have been thinking of trying a 3015 in it myself but there are two versions. Which is the preferred model to use the 3015 or 3015LF? I don't find the tone of the 1153 lacking (well, without comparing it to anything else) but am after a little more volume from my now lightweight version. Thanks in advance
A 1153 version that's weighs only 16kg?!, now that would ease my back. Having said that, my other cab; TE 1248 (4x12) is double the weight of the 1153, so I guess in comparison it can still be considered a lightweight cab! After a fair bit of researching on here & other places, I went for the 3015 not the LF version. Reckoned it would be more suited for a cab of that volume, but there are many experts on here who know better & might say otherwise. Thought the 1153 as it was with the Celestion was good, but wanted more volume too. The Kappalite seems to do that & with more punch & clarity, can definitely hear the difference. Plus I don't seem to be driving the amp as hard as previously.
  9. If you can use a soldering iron or learn to use one, definitely build one. It's a relatively easy & cheap project. If not, & you don't want to spend much; another fuzz though different to the WM, that's worth trying & cheap is Danelectro French Toast.
  10. I've got an old version (big box) Octave Multiplexer. In comparison to the Boss OC-2 (which I like too), I find it warmer sounding, more synthy & tracks a bit better - great pedal.

    Limiter advice
I picked up a behringer bass limiter for 4 quid in a pawn shop last week and had a play with it and found that it does get my sound pretty much spot on where I want it to be but I cant gig with it, its just too flimsy I really do STOMP my stomp boxes and the plastic behringer would last all of about 5 mins (its already cracked just from jamming with it) Whats closest to the behringer I know they generally copy Boss designs but to me the Boss doesnt have the same feel (dont get me wrong its better quality) but there is something else the Behringer unit is doing
Yeah...the Behringer limiter does seem a bit delicate, not bad sounding though IMHO. Not tried them myself, but I've heard reports that GLX pedals are also Boss knock-offs. Could be worth a try(?) 12.
Hi Folks I have an Alesis SR-16 drum machine. How does it compare for ease of use against the Boss DR-3 or the Zoom MRT3/b? Mark Sorry if this is on the wrong section.
I use a Zoom MRT-3B, prior to that a Zoom 234 along with an Alesis HR-16 (which I wish I still had). I've dabbled with a SR-16, but not used it extensively. Found all of them are pretty easy & intuitive to use TBH. However prefer the sounds on the Zooms to the SR-16, but the HR-16 is still my favourite.
  13.
£245 for the Yammy I lost interest at £73.
Me too @ £82
  14. Gorgeous looking bass there. How does it play? Love some of those old junker basses that crop up, some of them can end being real gems. I've got a cheap Commodore semi from around the same period, love it - really deep resonant tone, nice neck & fun to play. Even gigged with it, though probably like yours; they love to feedback! Look after it.
  15.
My first gigging bass amp in 79-81 was one of these matched with an ex sound system 1x18 cab Loved the sound at the time.
I had one of those too - loved it. In a moment of regrettable madness P/X'd it in for a 4x10 Session combo, which turned out to be crap. Always on the lookout for another (cheap) one.
  16. You're bound to get the best answers on this question on Only Bass forum. Quite a few speak English, a nice friendly forum too.
  17. Sold Jim a Kent Armstrong 'vintage hot' P-Bass pickup. Quick payer, good comms, no nonsense transaction - top bloke
  18. I think it's Henry Olsen's bass. He played with the Scream from Screamadelica up until Mani joined them on Vanishing Point after their break. Remember seeing him play live with them a fair few times. Always thought he looked pretty cool, in a suit, polo-neck with an old sunburst Precision. Pretty tight player too. That is a horrible monstrosity though, that he's selling.
  19. Thanks for the heads-up - much appreciated. Off down there tomorrow
  20. Tried an SPB-2 in my P-Bass; couldn't wait to get it out & replace it! They're overwound, way too pokey for me, not subtle at all, unreal amount of mids & not much else. I'm sure they have their fans, otherwise Seymour Duncan wouldn't sell them & they definitely have a character of their own. Very much a 'marmite' pickup IMO
  21.
I got myself a CIJ '65 reissue on Saturday. I'm still giggling. Not sure when it will end. :brow:
Bought Lee650's red 62' Reissue off here few weeks ago. It's a beauty, can't put it down!
  22. I got myself a cheap Boss CS-3 which sounded crap as stock, & did the Ovnilab Mod on it, which I'm led to believe is very similar to the Humphrey Mod, but bass friendly(?) . Quite like it, does everything I need, though I still think I can hear a touch of low end loss, but I'm happy with it. I still want to try out an EBS MultiComp though & would probably snap up an EHX White Finger if I found one s/h.
  23. In one band just a P-Bass with flats, fingerstyle straight into the amp with a tuner inbetween. My other band; roundwounds through fuzzes, envelope filters,octaver,phasers.... anything! Depends on the type of music & what other sonics are going on in the band, if there's room etc. But I don't think that pure sound of a bass into amp, with whatever tone coming from the fingers, can be beaten sometimes.
  24.
This is exactly what I imagine a valve amp should sound like without the expense of having the expense of changing power tubes. It has a nice amount of grit and overdrive if you want to push the valves a bit but can very warm and full sounding if you back off a bit.
+1 Got the V-Type 300w head - not a TE fan myself, but love it. I've found it's one of those few amps that sound good, just plugging in, simple basic EQ section - controls at twelve o'clock. No constant tweaking or messing about.
  25. Wem Bass Dominator with 15" speaker.
