1.
I've found playing with three fingers is a useful addition to my technique. I think I started trying to do it when learning the solo from My Generation by The Who in my first covers band - it seemed to be the only way I could get a similar sound, although I'm not sure what Entwistle did in practice. I can also remember Flea using what sounds like three finger triplets on Blood Sugar Sex Magic - can't remember the song name at the moment - the lyrics "mellowship for a fellowship" ring a bell.
That song's all slap happy. from what I can remember he does things like triple pops, which do use three fingers but in a rakey, agressive kind of not very dextrous way. it's a different ball game really. I've been giving it a go with some things... i'm just gonna mess about and see how my playing style develops now that I can throw a third finger in if I can't manage something with two.
Aw come on
Bob hughes??? sorry, my mate bob needs a nut for his fender jazz and would probably be likley to call him self "youma." I had to ask...
 3.
I do, makes triplets easy. I'm still working on it though and am a little rusty/shaky with it just now. andy
see, I have quite quick fingers and I can do triplets just as fast either way. But with 3 fingers triplets are almost all I can do! I'm wondering will it be worth the time and effort to train up my third finger properly.
 4. Who plays with three fingers? I've always taken the stance that you can learn to do anything with two fingers but I'm starting to come round on it... I've noticed how the odd thing may be easier with three fingers, for example something like the chorus to YMCA by the village people. I've just not seen/heard anything that would really be impossible with just two fingers. does anyone have any examples of any really good bass players that use three fingers? PS: sorry if this post is laden with sex puns.
 5.
Info from the Youtube vid.... "From Marching In The Streets 1975. Easily the greatest album ever by funky drummer Harvey Mason -- and quite possibly the only one to live up to the rhythmic complexity that Mason brought to countless other fusion sessions for other groups in the 70s! The tracks are all spacious and snapping with brilliantly funky touches -- a sound that resonates with Mason's contributions to Johnny Hammond's Gears album, but which comes off slightly differently here, thanks to a stronger focus on the drums. Keyboards are still a prime element of the set -- played here by Herbie Hancock, Dave Grusin, and Jerry Peters -- the latter 2 of whom helped out on arrangements for the record -- and other players include an all-star lineup of 70s jazz funk legends such as Blue Mitchell, Bennie Maupin, Paul Jackson, Hubert Laws, and others." So my guess would be Paul Jackson.
Thanks peeps. I did type all of the above names into google and not one bassist came up.... maybe just a bad google day or something. This stuff is heavily influencing my style at the minute. Can't get enough!
 6. Just trying to find out who played bass on the harvey mason album dancing in the street. any ideas? I'm sure I found some of his music once before but I've forgotten his name and I'm getting nowhere with google. 7. A GOOD bass player realises that the hand in an amazingly adaptable and dynamic tool and fully utilizes every way of attacking the strings. End of.
 8. For me I'll go all out and slap all sortsa stuff. with slapping the bass really does make a difference, the action, the placement of the pic ups and other stuff, it can all effect your slaping and poping so I beleive you need to do it before you buy. One bass might be good for double and triple pops, where as another might have a better feel for left hand slaps. you definatley need to go through your whole range on a bass before deciding on it. And I haven't even started talking about tone yet!
 9. For me I'd rather be able to sight read just to add that bit more depth to my repetior(sp) and I'm becoming bored with my knowledge of what works with what if you know what I mean. I wanna expand my horizons, so I'm working towards grade 5 theory at the minute, and I'll probably go onwards and upwards from there.
 10. Thanks, one thing I left out - my bass! I play an Ibanez TR500 expressionist.
 11. hello people, I'm Myo, from Liverpool. Just thought I'd introduce myself. I've been playing bass about 4 years now, played guitar for a few years before that. I've been playing in a band for over 3 years. at the minute I'm working towards doing theory grade 5. I play stationary anchor styles, I can play a bit of floating thumb but I'm just better with an anchored thumb. I slap a fair bit too and have some double thumb stuff down well. I'm also a great animal lover, I live with 10 of the beasts! Er... dunno what else to put really, oh yeah, music I'm into is anything with a decent bassist! Chili's of course, er... flecktones, duran duran, loadsa drum n bass, funk, anything goes really! My band at the min play a kinda of punk/funk/indie fusion if ya can imagine it! lol. I'm also looking to start a drum n bass band soon too. Got a stupidly great synth guy lined up. Well thats me and my bassy plans for the mintue. Hope to speak to some great bassists on here! BO!
