1.
but before I make any decisions, I want to find out how easy they are to deal with, what options there are etc. All help is much appreciated!
I don't think anyone has addressed the OP's question. Instead you're arguing over whether one luthier's bass is better than Fenders. OP asked how easy FCS is to deal with and what options are available. Unfortunately I'm down under and FCS is not even remotely doable for me, so I haven't even looked.
2. yes same to you both and all BassChatters stay safe on the roads people, don't wanna lose any more bassists,we've lost far too many, fart oo many
3. she'd never find work as a gigging bassist. She has no idea how to stand there like a stunned mullett with an expressionless face, never moving their body or head. No Idea !
4. How to coil cables properly https://www.youtube....h?v=pEd7ru24Vx0
5. depends on whether the grind is from his cab or a pedal, or both Sansamp will get you there
6. oi vay that's what the world needs, ANOTHER guitarist stealing a bassist's gig . So, I bet he plays with a pick like it's a guitar, he can't stop all the resonating notes and ringing open strings coz he can't palm mute and doesn't know why we use one finger on a fret to be able to finger mute the notes either. report him to the bass police so a proper bassist can get the gig seriously I'm sick of guitarists getting our gigs coz BLs think they'll be better.
7. It would be a good idea to test the DI if you have a mixer handy, to check it doesn't crackle and pop before the day. But if it is bad, the sound tech will have their own DI handy just in case. Wouldn't hurt to buy a good DI to keep in your bag.
8. A Prog mag? really? how many copies of that can you sell every month? but then again I'm part of a dying breed that buys mags, and CDs.
9.
There were a lot of gushing songs about the beatles in their early heyday, eg
there is a reel to reel tape of me singing "we love you Beatles" in 1964 as a three year old hehe
10. Senny HD201 or HD202, I have both, 202s have a bit of bass boost, good for general music listening, the 201s are more of a flat response.
11. they sound bored to death. Mick sounds like a white boy trying too hard to sound black. How did he get away with it for all these years. In the end, the Stones are a cover band, copying others, even when they write their own songs lol The only time they were great was with Mick Taylor.
12. Gday from down under Ralf ! sounds like you've had some very nice basses over the years, got any pics of them to share?
13.
Yeah I went last night and took my boy (10) who was desperate to see them. He sat open mouthed sand couldn't believe he was actually watching them live! That's what gigs are about!
You're a good dad ! that is how you get kids into music big time. My first concert was Wings Venus and Mars tour in 75. I'm sure I sat there all night thinking "I'm watching a BEATLE !" lol
14. throw the cat down the chimney? if the cat gets stuck too, drop the dog down there..........
15.
This is what I do.
lol wood covers on your tuners, so cute
16.
It's because they haven't learnt to play yet!
haha that is so funny I assumed they didn't like it or something well, if they're over fifty, tell them it's time to either learn bass, or sell bass hehe
17. to quote the great philosopher, Homer "That guy in Led Zeppelin who isn't called Bonham Page or Plant" Sir Paul The Ox Geezer Geddy Jaco Bill Wyman (just kidding) Chris Squire Lemmy Duck Dunn last but in no way least.... James Jamerson
David Paton (Pilot/Alan Parsons Project etc)
that's a blast from the past. My chenistry teacher was a guitarist in Pilot or it's predecessor who quit and emigrated to Australia, just before they made it big with January. Do you think he was a twisted bitter man? You BET

21. Welcome back to the low end ! I had a twenty year break and am loving playing again. Back then I had crap gear, now I have three Fenders,an SX and a Takamine acoustic. All I need is a Sub, a Ricky and a Hofner Beatle bass But the biggest difference between gear then and now, are those light D class micro amps that pump out triple the watts of my old beasts lol
22.
. It's panto, not high art.
Oh no it isn't !
23. with the slight difference between in the D and A strings I doubt you'd need to adjust intonation, it's usually when you go a bigger E string in my experience. But adjusting intonation is something you should learn to do, it's easy and there are a ton of vids on it Basically, set the G string saddle at 17" from the 12th fret if it's a 34" scale bass then with the open note in tune, adjust slightly by comparing the 12th fret harmonic to the 12th fret fretted note, if the fretted note is sharp, take the saddle back a tad. Then each subsequent saddle should be set further back by the thickness of it's string , adjust slightly as needed . apologies in advance if I got it wrong but this is what I've been doing and my basses are intoned perfectly , almost
