1. my 2 cents..... The P has such a great tonal range, and is THE most recorded bass and as such it's natural tone is what shines. So, you want a neutral head, or one that you can dial flat. Two 2x10s stacked vertically will allow you to hear yourself much better. Done.
2. Noiseworks played the Adelaide Grand Prix after race concert I think in 1988 or 9 My bandmate and I thought we'd see a pop band as they just had a massive hit with Touch and all the girlies were yelling for Jon Stevens. They put on one of the best live shows I've seen, all the musos were top notch, we were very impressed.
3. I'm torn. My 2014 MIA P bass was brand new when I got her (Mia, geddit?) and I'm dreading the first dent I get. But I also would like to have a roadworn bass, but with real road wearing by me, but since I can't fast forward 20 years I'll have to buy a roadworn, or put my first dent in Mia .....so torn
4.
How very rude!!
me or FB ? I wished him luck, why was that rude? Because I refuse to join FB just to look at a pic? My beef is with FB not the OP. sorry if it read wrong
5.
If you read the whole thing, I take both and offer them a choice, often after playing each of them for a few numbers, and the choice is always Precision. It's not like they are laying down the law (I'd be out of there in a flash of they tried that), but no one ever chooses the Jazz. I reckon Jazz basses sound great when you try them in the shop, but for regular band use, it's the Precision every time.
I did read the whole thing, but by the time I read all the replies and starting writing my reply I forgot that detail add a bit of grunt and the Jazz stands out much better, light OD will do the trick. One day just bring the Jazz
6.
There are many things I probably shouldn't have done lol
There are many things I DEFINITELY shouldn't have done hehe thanks for the welcome guys, nice forum here
7.
In the studio we recorded at the engineer got me to play through a Sansamp - essentially the more expensive item that the BDI21 was modelled on. His advice was get all of the required sound/eq from your amp, and then put the Sansamp (so subsititute BDI21 there instead) in the line with everything set at midday, and then adjust blend to suit. This is the way I`m using my BDI21 on my home practice set-up, as well as my Sansamp on my live rig. Have to say, it works a treat.
this doesn't make sense, you are basically just using it as a DI Try setting your amp's EQ flat. Play with the DIs tone shaping options, that's why it's there.
8. Get a TC Polytune, it is by far the best I've used, beats the cheap Snarks and even the expensive Peterson Stroboclip
9. buy a Fender strap, Squier IS made by Fender
10. just get a Polytune works better than those cheap snarks, and better than the Peterson Stroboclip that costs double.
11. I have the MXR BCD and the Tech21 Bass Boost Chorus. let's just say the MXR is in it's box most of the time
12. that is the main function of a DI, to split your signal to the PA and to your Amp / monitor
13. facebook insists I join just to view your page, ain't gonna happen good luck

15.
100% agreed. There's nothing wrong with a Squier and it's a very silly thing to do to advertise it as a Fender. Just like it'd be silly to advertise a Skoda as an Audi because both companies belong to the same group and even share some design and components...
except Squier is made by Fender, so it is a Fender product. Skoda is not made by Audi, they just share parent company Not saying it's OK to call a Squier a Fender, but if they call it a "Squier by Fender" I think that's OK.
16. Hello fellow bassists. Been playing mainly originals in bands since 1979, with a 15 year break for 'life'. My bass heroes are Sir Paul, John Paul Jones, Geezer, Chris Squire (RIP), James Jamerson, Geddy Lee and Phil Small ( Cold Chisel my fave Aussie band ever) I love melodic basslines,as you can probably tell. Wish I could write them as well as I can learn them from others, but that's life Happy plucking Bazz
17. who is the peanut at Fender that thinks white pickguards look good? sack him even if his name is Leo Fender III My MIM 3 tier Sunburst Jazz came with a white pg, wth? UGLY as sin til I changed it to tort. swap it for a black or black pearl pg imho
18. +1 for the Fender CS 62 pickups I have them in my MIA P and I swear that with just a turn of the tone knob I can replicate any recorded P tone, within reason
19.
Now don't get me wrong, I love the aesthetics of a Jazz bass, and I love the sound when I play them alone (as you do when trying them out in a shop...) but whenever I turn up to play with a band and get one of my JBs out, they always ask if I've brought a P bass with me, as no matter who I play with, they always prefer the sound of the Precision. So I have a Fender Classic 60s Jazz, nitro finish, lovely beast, and a new US Standard Jazz both sitting in cases upstairs and I never get to use them in anger. Is this a common experience? I suppose in an ideal world I'd meet someone with a pair of little-used Precisions because they always play Jazzes and we could arrange a swap! Glad I got that off my chest, now back to learning tomorrow's set....on a Precision!
My first post here, just wanted to chime in and say you should play what you want to play, how dare they dictate your instrument choice ! Am I the only one who thinks a Jazz Bass with just the neck pickup and played close to the neck sounds pretty darn tootin close to a P?
